I love how anthemic and simple Change sounds with just Lana and the piano, something I can imagine as a peace protest song in a weird way. The production really lets the lyrics speak for themselves.

Oh yeah no definitely, it stands out from the rest because of this.

I just wonder how strings and some vocal layering would amplify it.
It's a treasure as it is and it turned out real well for and on the record. But just imagine it, the sound

It wasn't just someone, Rick Nowels himself said it in a Pitchfork interview. Actually I'm glad we got this stripped down version of the song – there are 15 other songs on the record with beats etc. so having one song without any further instrumentation and production is a gift imho.

Okay but this novel would actually be the most amazing inspiration for Lana's next album

It's called The Future Eve and it's a 19th century classical science fiction novel, and the one which popularized the term "android"

    Here's a synopsis (from wikipedia)
When Ewald calls, he reveals that he is close to suicide because of his fiancée, Miss Alicia Clary. Alicia is described as being physically perfect but emotionally and intellectually empty. She will say whatever she believes others want to hear. Far from having any ambition or goals of her own, she lives her life based on what she believes is expected of her. Ewald describes his frustration with the disparity between her appearance and her self and confides that though he can have no other, she is so hopeless that he has resolved to kill himself.
Edison replies by offering to construct for Ewald a machine-woman in the form of Alicia but without any of her bothersome personality. He shows Ewald the prototype of the android, named Hadaly, and Ewald is intrigued and accepts Edison’s offer. Edison reveals that he has invited Alicia to his residence at Menlo Park in order to set the process in motion. He then explains to the still somewhat doubtful Ewald how he will interact with the android and how natural it will all feel.
Ewald then presses Edison to tell him why he created Hadaly in the first place. Edison relates a long story about Mr. Edward Anderson who was tempted into infidelity by a young woman named Miss Evelyn. His indiscretion, brought about by the guile of Miss Evelyn, ruins his life completely. Edison then says that he tracked down Miss Evelyn only to discover that she was not as she appeared, rather she was horribly ugly and her beauty was entirely the work of cosmetics, wigs, and other accessories. Edison created Hadaly in an effort to overcome the flaws and artificiality of real women and create a perfect and natural woman who could bring a man true happiness. Edison then takes Ewald back to Hadaly and explains to him the exact mechanical details of her functioning: how she moves and talks and breathes and bathes, all the while explaining how natural and normal Hadaly’s robotic needs are, comparing them to similar human actions and functions.
After the details of the android's functioning and construction are covered, Alicia arrives and is escorted in. Edison convinces her that she is being considered for an important theater role. Over the course of the next weeks, she poses for Edison and her exact physical likeness is duplicated and recordings of her voice are made. Eventually, Edison sends Alicia away and introduces Ewald to his android-Alicia without revealing that it is not the real thing. Ewald is very taken with her and she secretly reveals to him that she is in fact not simply an android but has been supernaturally endowed with the spirit of Sowana, Edison’s mystical assistant. Ewald does not reveal this fact to Edison but instead leaves with Hadaly-Alicia-Sowana. However, before he can reach home to his new life with his new lover, Ewald’s ship sinks and the android, who was traveling with the cargo, is destroyed.

So a female singer with emotional issues (aka normal by most standards) is recreated as a robot to be the perfect woman and chanteuse and it turns out the robot lady is actually a supernatural spirit

Like, the character is shockingly like Lana. For instance,

“I learned that she came from a good family, and that her betrothed had forsaken her to marry a girl with a fortune. Alicia left home, intending to lead a Bohemian life as a singer. However, she later gave up this idea. “Her voice, appearance, and dramatic talent would have provided her with an income sufficient for her needs. But she was glad to have met me just when she was setting forth into the world."

    also

"Her heavy brown hair, which hung about her like a mantle, had the radiance of a summer night. Her face was an exquisite oval. Her hands were not quite as aristocratic as the rest of her form, but her feet had the same eloquence as the Greek statues. “Her eyes were beautiful, her brows perfectly shaped. The sound of her low voice was so thrilling, the notes of her songs so stirring, that I was overcome with a strange emotion. My admiration, as you shall see, was of an unknown order."

exactly. Ppl judge the artist based on their sales, and that's BULLSHIT. I mean, Justin Bieber sells a lot, Katy Perry used o sell a lot too and they're both shit. Commercial success =/= being a good artist (and, usually, the artists that sells a lot aren't any good).
The Chainsmokers ft Halsey peaked at #1 and it's one of the worst songs I've heard (so does Despacito)

Lust for Life reached #1 in multiple countries with little-to-no promo, and she scored 100k during pretty shitty sales climate. She did terrific.

UV sold well bc it was her big second record after BtD, Young and Beautiful, and probably most importantly the Summertime Sadness remix. With an artist like Lana who doesn't make radio friendly music, saleswise it's always going to be diminishing returns

Huh. Interesting. Well I hope we get to see some of the LFL songs on that chart tomorrow.
Yeah, like that time Lorde won the top rock song award or something like that from Billboard

This album has singlehandedly given me insomnia; the songs are so earwormy that I can't get them out of my head at night

as previously mentioned, and as i'm pretty sure you specifically have actually been told, using each topic for their intended purpose makes a forum easier to browse. this isn't a social media platform where one thread has everyone's thoughts like a twitter timeline- it's meant to be discussions organized by topic. but yes we should all endeavor to enlighten each other as kindly as possible.

It is. I've seen Lana twice and both times I went alone, and it was magical nevertheless.

I would love an EP something like this
    1. Best American Record
    2. Lust for Life (Blade Runner Version/Original Version)
    3. Remix or new song (ft. someone, maybe Vince Staples)
    4. Remix or new song (ft. Børns, or MATD, or someone)
    5. Roses Bloom for You
    6. Yosemite

I watched a bit of it - it's not as bad as most of us expected. What he said about the trap beat/modern part of the record is partly true, it could've been done better (just by omitting 2 or 3 tracks). I probably will listen to LFL in the future without SB, GL and IMF although I enjoy those songs individually (and I will listen to them individually but not every time when I'll listen to the album). As I said earlier on – Lana's metascore/her score with reviews would surely be even higher if she stripped down the record just a little bit. 72 mins is a lot to swallow! (But I'm still very happy with it.)

Could you imagine how the entire LF album sounded like after the first takes with Rick Nowels (as he said in the interview recently)? :-O Just her voice and piano / acoustic guitar... I'd kill to have a chance to listen to those versions of the songs... ("Roses bloom for you" gave us a good impression; or "Change" – I love this simple, not overly produced songs.)

I listened to the entire album 4 times but to individual tracks a lot more. But I try not to overplay it so the album stays fresh
But it's interesting that I started to like "Summer bummer" (which I didn't like at all in the beginning) and WM is really growing on me (one of my favorites at this moment) while other songs, especially BPBP are falling on my personal list (I would've loved if there sonically were a bit darker songs in the second half of the album...).

Omg that's amazing about the U.K.!!!

If Lana isn't #1 in the US, it is all tidal's fault. Like it's literally a scam. She is going to outsell both Meek and Tyler, but tidal/Billboard are being fraudulent assholes and stealing her #1.

back in 2013 i skipped school (on the day i had a huge test too) in order to go wait outside to the venue, they let people with pre order priority or something in first and yeah i was mad cause they had only been there for like an hour, but i saw lana that night and that's all that mattered to me. i didn't know anything about priority when i went but i got the fuck over it that same night. like not to be rude but you seem like you're kind of ungrateful, like at least you got to see her, shouldn't that be what matters? not the circumstances of where you ere placed in the venue lol. you're kind of throwing a fit at this point, which is yikes cause had you not said you were 46 i would have guessed you to be 14 lol. this is standard practice at a majority of the venues in the world (im in the us), i doubt they're gonna change policies just because you're upset. it makes sense that theyd want to reward loyal customers over people who don't contribute anything other than singular ticket sales per concert that they attend. log out and go outside for a few hours. this is not as awful as you're making it out to be
