They're getting less and less imaginative...

  4. Atom Heart liked a post in a topic by DUKE in Do you think Lana is a complete fake?
As for the quick judgment in the media, I suppose it's a mixture of going along with the overall journalistic opinion on her and being overwhelmed with deciphering who she is. It may be easier for some to write something off as "fake" when the subject you're dealing with is too complex to be broken down in a few words.

Also, and I think this needs to be pointed out explicitly, a lot of what Lana does follows an almost story-like type of narration. The way she speaks about her past, the way she sometimes (but definitely not always; more on that later) explains her work and especially the way she speaks in her work sounds very scripted, well-thought-out and partially exaggerated (as in artistically modified). It almost seems as if she is really trying to create an unreality with words and images. All this is doubtlessly essential part of her artistry.

She almost succeeds at creating this illusional reality (= unreality), but a conflict of some sort arises when she suddenly spares us "the epic narrative" and austerely speaks about things as they are/were. For instance, when she talks about "this guy" she once was with, she suddenly seems a lot more real. Few people are willing to live and express their lives like Lana does; society calls them dreamers. I am not trying to say Lana is necessarily a dreamer, but she certainly has highly imaginative qualities.

I don't think the word "fake" applies to artists and work of arts in general unless we're indeed talking about replica of something. In the end, the CDs, the music videos or even the words she utters are real, so there's nothing fake about that. Considering all of us are experiencing her art in a very intense way, it may be hard at times to put things in perspective, but I am of the personal conviction that what she does should be regarded like a painting in a gallery, presupposing it is a painting and not a photograph. Not that I'm for the institutionalisation of art, though. Why are we presupposing that the art she creates is real? Reality isn't created, reality exists and oh my, I am getting into this a bit too much right now.

I am sure that what she does is authentic, but bear in mind that she's proclaimed to be "making [her] life a work of art." She is not creating a standalone piece [of art], she is making her whole life one; her being both creator and creation at the same time.

It's not quite as simple as that, though. I reckon that I have mostly been arguing for her making art which shall not be mistaken for reality (what the hell is reality even?), but there is another conflict that arises here. I don't know who of you have met her or seen her live, but we all know how squeaky, excited and disappointingly [irony] humble she is on and off stage.

I guess she's real and unreal at the same time. Personally, I think she struggles holding the balance between being a creator and creation of blood and flesh, like all artists do sometimes. I don't know if any of this even remotely answers your questions or meets the purpose of this thread. Well, at least I spent some time thinking on this fairly eventless Wednesday.

As promised, with the leak of "Behind Closed Doors", I've added a new volume to my collection to tame some of the longer compilations. I'm pretty pleased with the results, though it's weird to get used to. But it gives me an excuse to listen to Lana nonstop to get into it.

Not to disappoint, but I did not make that hip-hop volume. It just would have been too short and basically only shortened two volumes, leaving "Black Leather Moonlight" unruly. So here's what I came up with...

For some perspective, here's what my library now looks like. I'm waiting to integrate the Black Beauty EP into my unreleased collections, at least until the Ultraviolence tracklist confirms none of these will be going into an "Ultraviolence: Demos" album. But I made Summer Wine and Chelsea Hotel No. 2 their own singles, leaving only the five Nowels leaks in that EP.

    And now the tracklists!

My fav volume is the same as ever. Consisting of Lizzy tracks from 2006-2009.

The new and improved volume 2 focuses heavily on cutesy love songs, mostly pop with a brief foray into organic sounds from BTTB-OOW. Butterflies kinda sticks out but I can't separate it from Butterflies Part 2...In the future, should Hollywood not make it to Ultraviolence, it would be a good pre-Butterflies track.

Volume 3! The new one! A working title, since this lyric doesn't come from any of these songs. Basically this is sassy, aggressive, often rock-inspired Lana. Feedback on this please!

Volume 4 is now my sadcore volume. Without COTBR, VC, and TOSTB, it is a lot more melancholy. I like it.

Volume 5 isn't just Lana doing pop, it's Lana pretty much going way leftfield into mainstream/hip-hop territory. I guess. It fits shut up

Volume 6 remains, though I'm contemplating splitting it up between laptop demos with instrumentals and a cappellas

    (old screenshot, name isn't changed)

Please tell me what you think!

And then when she revenge fucked that rapist to death whew kween

As soon as they started giving her extra shit/coven pride/bringing Kyle back to life, she was done. Not just her character but even Taissa's acting became corny. Really Kyle should've stayed a zombie the whole time, wouldn't have been half as dull. And then her hell. WHY WOULDN'T HER HELL REFERENCE THE TIME SHE ACCIDENTALLY KILLED HER BOYFRIEND? Dumbass.

Coven was such a mess, as much as I enjoyed it.
    #asylumforever

also yES @@SitarHero i have been craving a Lily lead role since Nora. Mary Eunice was close but I still want more screen time for her.
I also really want Alexandra Breckenridge (Young Moira in Murder House & irrelevant victim in Coven) to get a bigger role because damn, she is gorgeous and really talented IMO. I really want Taissa Farmiga to go away, too.

Makes sense. Maleficent will premiere in May, too. They will promote her with the help of the movie. Clever move from Intersope.
