I think Lana kind of touched upon this in her livestream on Blue Banisters release day. Lana and Mike only dated for around 7 months (late June 2021-early January 2022), but in that October 2021 livestream, she was chatting with that fan Zach about how you can move on to the next relationship and still not be over a previous one. I really think that relationship with Sean was some sort of psychic opening to her karmic lineage because it seems she really operationalized her feelings about that breakup to channel answers about her familial origin and past. Mike has credits on the songs that seem to have been written as she was exploring this last fall, so maybe that relationship helped her move through that in some ways. It’s super interesting!

I think “reference audio” simply means that Rich was given the song ahead of time so that he could better understand Lana’s vision for the video (since it was very much driven by the narrative of the song), and thus, help Lana plot specific scenes at specific points of the song. It could be that Lana would have made changes to the song even afterwards, but probably only in production since the video they filmed was supposed to match the lyrics of the original version. Since the instrumental in the final version on NFR is the same as the original version, I doubt she planned to make any changes, and that “reference audio”/the leak we got in February 2017 is the final version of the original.

It’s fun to see real references that Lana made in her everyday life over the last 15 months find their way into the songs. Her direct mentions of Harry Nilsson and listening to Don’t Forget Me in a livestream cropping up in the title track, references to her grandparents and her father’s hobby as a deep sea fisherman on Instagram being potential themes of a track, her kind of tongue-in-cheek performance art of “sluttiness” online following QFTC appearing in the album’s visuals and themes to create a grander narrative…. And now the mention of fishtails in that interview at the Gucci Cosmognie show being a (potential) direct reference in a track title…

2022 Lipsters Awards: The Decade Edition - January 21st
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in Contests
Congrats to everyone on the nominations! Excited to commemorate some of the wonderful members here who are among my favourites (and advocate for my snubbed favourites - justice for @DCooper and more)! And it goes without saying, but @Elle for everything, but especially Lipster of the Decade because without her, there would truly be no such as thing as this ceremony, the continued use of the early-2010s term, ‘Lipster’, and of course, over a decade of this beautifully deranged space for us to share our love for LDR.
