Minutes ago, Lana Del Rey performed with Nikki Lane at Central Machine Works Brewery in Austin, Texas for The Second Annual Roundup event.
The pair sang at least two songs - a duet of "Look Away" from Nikki's debut record which they also performed during Lana's NFR! Tour, and an unknown song possibly titled "Breaking Up Slowly" that may be an upcoming collaboration track.

    [Nikki Lane]
Breaking up slowly is a hard thing to do
I love you only, but it's making me blue
So don't send me flowers like you always do
It's hard to be lonely, but it's the right thing

Are these my good years, or do I have none?
Are there really good years for everyone?
I don't wanna live with a life of regret
I don't wanna end up like Tammy Wynette

    [Lana + Nikki]
'Cause breaking up slowly is a hard thing to do
I love you only, but it's making me blue
So don't send me flowers like you always do
It's hard to be lonely, but it's the right thing to do

    [Lana Del Rey]
George got arrested out on the lawn
We might be breaking up right after this song
Will he still love me long after I'm gone?
Or did he see it coming all along?

    [Lana + Nikki]
'Cause breaking up slowly is a hard thing to do
I love you only, and it's making me blue
So don't send me flowers like you always do
It's hard to be lonely (baby, breaking up is hard to do)
Breaking up slowly (baby, breaking up is hard to do)
Breaking up slowly is a hard thing to do
I love you only, and it's making me blue
So don't send me flowers like you always do
It's hard to be lonely, but it's the right thing to do

I was literally TODAY years old when I realized “Soft Ice Cream” doubles as “Soft I Scream” in Salvatore... which she proceeds to do in the refrain/chorus.

This truly does feel like an extension of MAC. I love it so much and this is definitely a song that came straight from Lana’s heart. Her voice shines so brilliantly on this track and the lyrics are really heartfelt. I love the first verse so much. So excited for this record and hope we get some more traditional sounding instruments on it! I loved the flute(?) towards the end of the track - it really reminded me of the sound that the Navajo flutist she invited in Albuquerque brought on stage!

It’s so true what everyone is saying about Behind the Iron Gates. I feel like the Interview Mag video could’ve been a trailer for both Chemtrails and Behind the Iron Gates, as I think she’s really tying together the themes of isolation (by literally being behind iron gates but also feeling like an outsider in regards to the culture, both of which I think will see Lana discuss being a prisoner of her own thoughts derived from her experiences, but how that’s almost empowering) and there will be such a synergy between Chemtrails and Behind the Iron Gates - even more than Norman and Violet! I think both projects will influence the way the other should be interpreted or listened to and it’s really cool to see her putting out projects in multiple formats that are all connected! I hope she continues putting out records and poetry collections that are symbiotic so that we can be further blessed with her insight!!

I know I posted this cover earlier today, but I was looking back over it and didn't really like how blue her hair was. So I back and adjusted the coloring. Essentially it's just less blue and more of a dark blue-ish brown. Overall I think it looks better.

EDIT: I got bored so I decided to make yet another version using a different photo from the shoot. I think I like this cover slightly more too. Anyway, that's the last HM demos cover for the time being. Enjoy y'all!

I could see that too! This song really feels like an extension of MAC which was track 2 on NFR, so I feel like this song is definitely somewhere at the beginning of the record where we’re still getting introduced to its narrative <3
