Calling it stripped back, cinematic, west coast-inspired, as well as referencing an idea of beginning and ending with a cappellas. That seems to have remained her vision.

I really had to stop and think about this one. I went with Born To Die, as is it's such a classic to me. The opening instrumental is what really hooked me to the song. Although when I heard West Coast, I literally was so in love with it I actually stopped breathing, which made it an incredibly close second. I really love Ride, but for me it wasn't an instant love, it kinda had to grow on me (and I still find myself skipping it from time to time)

Because if she's actually singing about abusive relationships and we still like her music, what does that say about us?   
 
I think that is why critically discussing art is so interesting and important. Lana is exploring some seriously dark themes, but doing it in a way so it appeals to lots of people. Or in the case of feminism: I'm guessing most people on this board agree on the basic principles of feminism, yet we are really into the music of a woman that sings about submission constantly. Why is that? Why does glamourized darkness, or beautiful tragedy or whatever you wanna call it appeal to us?
 
Some people decide that they don't wanna listen to an artist like that, because she's not politcally correct or will bend the meaning of Lana's lyrics so they can justify still liking her. That is totally ok. 
 
As long as we can all agree that Lana has every right to write the songs she do

Interesting choice of male lead  I'm actually very excited to see her using Bradley again cause even though he might be an asshole in real life, he fits the aestethics of her videos so well.

Um, yeah, this might be analogous if Lana was making statements in interviews suggesting she thought sexual relationships between tween girls and middle aged guys were great. I'm not objecting to the sordid or unsettling themes she sings about (and in some cases glamorizes) or anything else in her lyrics. In fact, that has always been part of her appeal to me since the beginning. But there's a difference between singing songs that fetishize abusive relationships and buying into that. I'm merely noting that I find statements of hers that suggest she may actually buy into some of that stuff disconcerting.

This is very important to remember when dealing with Lana. She glamourizes a lot of potentially harmful /controversial things and even in her sweeter songs there are often themes of tragedy, resignation and sadness. That is a big part of the appeal for a lot of people, myself included.
