I thought at first it was a snippet and thought it would be an interesting direction for a couple of songs.

Lana's strategy seems to have been: «The critics have spoken», when it came to her Grammy campaign. It's true that Billie was promoting the record so much more when came time to campaign. I saw the Billie wins as a mean for the Grammy to prove they are still relevant and «cool», by having a young and talented singer win all the important awards that night, which has been a long-time critic of the Grammy's (a bunch of old geysers awarding their piers). I do wonder if she they regretted their choice, with the pandemic situation: NFR became so much more relevant than Billie's record, as good as it is. Anyways, I don't expect any Grammy wins for Lana, except maybe in the spoken-word category, or at some point in the future, for outstanding accomplishment in her career, or something like that.

Looking back on her insta last year, where she was posting random selfies between music posts, I wouldn’t be surprised if she dropped a new single by the end of next week, even if it’s “Violet’s week”. She’s way more active on social media posting these days. You won’t like what I’m writing, but I wonder if her caption “Tulsa Jesus Freak: White Hot Forever” is not only a clue for music to come, but also a hint that she came back with Sean, like the first part would be adressed to him and WHF is about their relationship. It’s a big stretch, though, and it probably is simply the title of one or two songs (double release again ?)

I never was a big Taylor fan though I thought she has had real pop gems. I gave Folklore a chance and it’s honestly very good. I must confess that I do love The National and have a week spot for the early stuff Bon Iver put out, which are all over this album. Taylor paints great stories. She always had. It’s why she’s such a top singer in pop. Lana said herself that most of her songs are about two things, two subjects, and I will always prefer Lana’s songwriting, which is closer to poetry and literature. Her Americana references are always filed with nostalgia and just the right amount of kitsch. Coming back to folklore, if Lana goes folk, the two songs by Jack on folklore could be interesting for Lana as well. In all the big Female pop names around, Taylor is the one I’d see Lana have a collab with, not on one of her albums, but as a side project.Their storytelling could mesh well, their voices also, and they love each other. And with Jack who produced both of them many times, it’s almost stupid to not have that duet already.

Love how her blonde hair makes her green eyes look stunning.

Lanaboards > FBI. (And I love it) Wasn’t he in LA yesterday according to his story?

That is so weird and yet so her?! Mariners Apartment Complex was also an usual name.

It’s probably been mentioned already, but Jack has that car also. Someone pointed out on Twitter that Jack has the same car. It could be him driving.

Ok, super late to the party, but here are my two cents. That video could be old. As if she is sharing with us an “old memory”. WHF was in the first songs recorded for this album, and it could have been reworked as a diss track. And I think the song is called Tulsa Jesus Freak : White Hot Forever. That song must be very good if she kept it and meant it as a “single” since day one (is there a video for it??!?) Someone pointed out on Twitter that Jack also has that car, not just Sean. So we hold our horses, she is not back with the cop lol

I have to reread her controversial post, honestly, because a lot was going on in that one. About the possible controversy of her lyrics on COCC, what I think it’s about is her going back to topics like sadness, depression (didn’t she post Leather Patent right after that, which hints at being fragile and contemplating taking your own life by stepping into the sea?), wanting to be in love (which is considered « anti-feminist” these days, more often than not). So, I’m expecting lyrics in the range of Sad Girl, Hope, and so on, rather than assertive and controversial lyrics like Cola or Fucked My Way Up to the Top. Again, like I said, I need to reread the whole thing to make sure it’s what she meant.

It’s a weird time we are living in, with social media and always finding « the right tone » for everything. I don’t know if she wants her work with the Navajo community to be « publicized » and if it should be, to attract awareness on the subject... National Geographic posted on the subject, on their Insta, mentioning that coronavirus had been devastating in the Navajo communities that didn’t have running water

I like White Hot Forever as a song title. As an album’s name, it’s too much Lana, in a way, like something you’d expect from her. Same with Honeymoon or Born to Die: good album names, but not that much of the « wow » factor. Ultraviolence was a punching and intriguing name, Norman Fucking Rockwell was a funny and very original one. Chemtrails Over the Country Club is very mysterious and incredibly poetic : the juxtaposition of leisure and danger, the sound « C » repeated three times... It sounds very thought out.

Whatever she is feeding us, I need proof, in August, that COCC is coming. Preorder or whatever. A single with preorder would be perfect. But just a preorder with tracklist and release date would be fine by me. I’d sure love a new song, but I tell myself we’re about to get her soothing voice over poems, which is the next best thing.

Ouf, I hadn't thought of that. It really would have to be done with a lot of taste and tact, if she doesn't want all hell to break loose with criticisms after that.

It does have a pretty good chance of coming out Sept 4-5 since she gave us a very precise date in May, and it usually checks out when she does that. However, I must say that I didn't believe her at first, when she first mentioned the project the day NFR was released. She is shit at estimating the time required for a project. The only other time she kept her word about a timeline was with HM: other than that, it took longer and sometimes, WAY longer for the project to be completed. Honestly, if we do get COCC on time, It'll probably be because she kept writing and recording during quarantine, which cleared the rest of her schedule to do just that. Considering that it truly was a short period of time writing and recording that album, I think the chances of having a shorter record are good, to be honest. And I wouldn't be mad, with NFR being just one year old, plus two poetry books on the way.

Something like NFR is very well balanced between LFL’s diverse styles and HM’s unique mood. I love both albums, and HM is in my top three from her, but by songs 11 or 12, it lacked a bit of tempo. It took me a long time to love Swan Song because it was at the end of the album and sounded a bit « one-note » compared to the others. LFL is too long and is hard to listen from cover to cover. I’ve mentioned this many times, but her best albums are the ones that are around the 60-minute mark.
