Just the Annie Mac interview for Chemtrails had me convinced she needed a long break after that album… @BlackoutZone do you have any tea about her collab with Jesse Rutherford of the Neighborhood? I believe the song was for his solo project, but have you heard anything about it recently?

Since NFR, she’s been in a very laid-back mood when it comes to creation (she said so in interviews) and she did say that LFL had been a lot of work… Maybe this is why she doesn’t rush back to Rick anymore for new songs: she doesn’t want to get back into that mindset of « work only »? Not that it would be Rick’s fault, but after what BoZ said about the number of tracks recorded for LFL, it seems that she doesn’t want to do that anymore 🤷🏼

While I adore WD, I don’t know if it would have attracted many people towards the album if it had been a single … And I was glad I could hear that one in the context of the album… But you’re right about the two-month silence between pre-order and release didn’t help at all to hype this album up.

I liked it at first, love her voice, and I couldn’t believe we finally could hear it… and then Dark Paradise came on shuffle, a couple of days later, and I thought that the same theme was way better developped on DP than on LIB

By the way, before we all freak out about a possible single that would be announced from Apple Music and their database, White Dress was supposed to be released as a single at the beginning of February and well, that did not happen. Don’t blame yourself, sweetie, we all fell for it

This is the track I’m most excited about and yet, do we really want one of the best ones released as a single, rather than have our minds blown when we listen to the album for the first time? Sometimes I wonder how NFR would have been, on first listen, if she hadn’t released VB as a single (then again, thank God the longest track was there to help us cope through these hard and long months of silence)

Totally 💯 agree!!! Music has always been part of my life and I love a long track, a song that takes its time to get you somewhere, and then the next one gets you on a second part of the journey… When I hear someone say « oh it’s my song » and you realize they only listen to the damn 10-second TikTok snippet…

Indeed! NFR ended up being number 3 on release week… but the buzz around that album has pushed it to great and steady streaming numbers. Is a number one THAT relevant for labels? Maybe not, but it really depends on what happens next in terms of streaming / buzz / popularity, which is almost impossible to predict (the number of « odd » songs in her discography that went viral and gave a new popularity push to her albums is insane UV doing so well after 8+ years?!? )
