She always says the same shit about being ~reborn~ the time she releases a new album - which is ok, a lot of artists do the same, it's a new era for her the same as for everyone -- but then a few years later she's also making hints she hates her latest release... remember her shading EH back in the day? I'm almost sure she said something similar about froot a while ago. I think she kinda suffers from lack of faith in her own music... which is really sad. And this is also why she tries to do this whole radio-friendly basic thing rn.

Agreed. She changed her stage name so she wouldn't feel confined to what people thought "Marina and the Diamonds" was so I find it surprising that everyone else is shocked that she is doing something different.
 
Yes it's more basic, some of the tracks have been choices and the lyrics just aren't there but really we can't expect her to write the same as she did 10 years ago writing TFJ or even 8 years ago writing EH (or keep to the same dated sound). It's disappointing that she does appear to be declining though. She was the first person I stanned back in 2010 when I first heard Hollywood when I was like 13 so to see her contemporaries continue to improve or at least keep to the same standard, but Marina slowly becoming more basic is sad but I'm just gonna take the bops and get over it. 

Eh, okay I listened to OT and SS in full finally. They aren't too bad but they aren't good. I just don't like bright pop like Orange Trees even if she does sound nice in it. And Superstar sounds like something I would have liked as a kid, that's all.

I have..........some strong mixed feelings about the idea of her dropping one song per-week til the release.............
2015-me would have loved this. But I kinda learnt how this can end up... limiting the "impact"  of listening to the full body of work.
 
No idea of what she's doing for fear, but I expect at least one music video for it since she sounded so confident about it being a real double album and 2 different albuns etc.

It’s funny how she once said that if a song doesn’t sound as good acousticly as it sounds with its production it’s not a good song, but now her songs kinda get carried by the production, without it they would be pretty boring songs (which i don’t think is a bad thing, the production of a song’s a huge part of it, if the production’s what makes a song good it’s still a good song imo.)

Seriously tho! Finneas is truly the genius behind all of it, and he doesn't get enough credit. ofc billie has ideas but fines is the one who brings everything to life. also, I think there is an obvious difference between their writing, I can tell in a song that they wrote together, who wrote what. props to him.

omg i love everything about her cause it's all challenging the norm rn, from her looks to her sound to her visuals, it's all so unique for a mainstream pop artist and i'm honestly living for it, not saying she's on her level but she is reminding me a LOT about lorde and how she revolutionized pop with pure heroine....

the production on the album is AMAZING I just want to hear her really sing and not mumble so much 

The last 3 tracks are my favorite. Her voice just fits well into the ballads. I’m actually a big fan of Bad Guy and 8 as well

Listened to the record not really expecting anything but I wanted to check her out since I'm gonna go to a festival where she plays this summer.
 
I think her music is actually quite nice, the over-edgy-persona is a bit stupid but i guess that's acceptable since she's ACTUALLY still a teenager.
"bad guy", "my strange addiction" and "bury a friend" are pretty fun songs, "8" has this slight Lilly-Allen-as-an-emo-teen-vibe and "listen before i go" turned out to be suprisingly touching. My favourite track is probably "xanny" though.
 
Not an album I'll spend too much time listening to, but it's fun and well thought out and the production has more depth than the basic sounds that some (formerly great) indie-pop singers like Lykke Li or Marina have been putting out lately.

Perfect wording for how I felt. Honestly the single choices shouldve been different because after getting ‘when the party’s over’ none of the ballads hit that level.

March came and went I guess. I’ll enter April with as little hope I had last month and a bit more disappointed.
 
... Yay, one month closer to NFR.

Honestly, if the album won’t be out before her European festivals, I’m gonna go into a rampage and whine about it everyday here on LB and my Twitter. My hype for this album is already low and it’s gonna be nonexistent if the album is not out until the later half of this year.  
 

I hope the title stays: it’s fucking iconic. BAR as an album title would have been, but NFR is just « in your face » legendary.

But tbh I don't know the real reason why artists can't cover his songs... it's a shame because I've always wondered what Lana would sound like singing an Elvis song.

This could be what’s going on but I have doubt. I think it could more likely be about the contents of the songs or the production of the album. I couldn’t see why the estate would have any control, unless his name is copyrighted. If there’s a copyright, would that still hold with the word “Fucking” between his first and last names? 
Edit: Names CANNOT be copyrighted in the US, so if this was true, there’s no validity to them holding her album up at all.
