I had to skip school to day because I spend the whole day crying. I guess it's kind of strange to be so deeply affected by the death of someone that I've never really met, but I've literally been listening to Leonards music since the day I was born. When I was 1 year old my parents hung a swing in one of the door frames in our apartment so they could play 10 New Songs while I was playing (lmao) and my first ever concert was Leonard Cohen at Nice Jazz Festival. His music has been the soundtrack to literally every single moment of my life, good and bad. I remember The Future playing while I was sitting in the back of the car on my family roadtrip across europe and i remember crying my eyes out to If It Be Your Will and Take This Longing when the boy I was in love with didn't love me back. Now that Leonard's gone it feels almost like losing a friend.

Noir is truly one of Lana's greatest songs!

Sad Girl: "He's got the fire and he walks with it" is probably a reference to Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. And the "talking 'bout my generation" line in Brooklyn Baby is a reference to the song 'My Generation' by The Who. Oh and she also mentions the summer of love in Summer Of Sam

If she is getting more political i really hope it will be evident in the albums lyrical content. I don't mean political in the same way as the last PJ Harvey album which was cringeworthy and extremely over the top imo, but more in an early Joni Mitchell kind of way.... I'm thinking songs like My Old Man, California, For The Roses and The Boho Dance. Songs that are extremely personal, but still has a clear political side to them as well.

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
GodBlessMe replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
I'll answer tomorrow when i have a little more time, but I think you should create a new thread for this so more people see it! -
I don't know why, but I always really liked these lyrics. I agree with the theories that this song is about herself.
-
I think Lana's lyrics on Ultraviolence and Honeymoon are way better than the lyrics on Born To Die... I honestly find it cringeworthy that every second line on BTD is a reference to another song, book, poem or movie.
-
Yeah the release history confuses me as well. But one of the things i really love about it is how personal it seems. I mean, lyrics like: Orly flightMadrid tonight Close the door On the last floor Close the flight Prepare your sight As if you'd never Seen the light Understand The fortune spent Conceal your pain Conceal your pride And also Waiting For The Man is obviously really relevant to her life in that period.

Really? I always preferred the 1981 version. Perhaps because I really like the Saeta/Vegas single as much as everyone else seems to do. Purple Lips has always been my favorite.

This is not even an unpopular opinion, it's just not true...
-
Hahaha, yeah I know that that's an unpopular opinion among Nico fans, and i agree that Desertshore and The Marble Index are definitely the better albums, but for some reason Drama Of Exile holds a special place in my heart, perhaps because it reminds of some really amazing times.
-
i actually think that line is better, because calling someone 'poison' doesn't seem as ridiculous as calling someone 'D.N'...
-
"He used to call D.N / That stood for deadly nightshade" is honestly worse than "stranger than a stranger"

What musical direction should Lana go in for LDR5?
GodBlessMe replied to ilovetati's topic in Lana Thoughts
I honestly don't care what her next album sounds like as long as she spends time on it and writes amazing lyrics like Fine China. -
Omg these lyrics are better than all the lyrics on Honeymoon wtf.
