  1. Looks like it was spread by articles like this Gigwise post, but the copyright claim is from Pacific Coast News.
  2. Anyone have a link to a re-up of this interview and know what/where it's from?
  3. Sure, it's additional work to check. But on the other hand, it's more work if you create a thread and there's already one that's in halfway decent shape and possibly even has a transcription or translation done for you. That said, the work of checking for existing threads can be divided up. I've been working on the low-hanging fruit, compiling a list of links to the relevant threads that pop up when I search for "interview" in the title. I should have that ready soon.
  4. Was this an excerpt from an interview in The Sun? If so, does anyone have a link?
  5. @@annedauphine Do you have separate Google docs for each year? If so, can you hook me up with links to them so I can update them with some of the links to existing threads?
  6. The biggest takeaway is to check if there's already a thread for a given interview (probably buried the in Latest News or Lana Thoughts section), focus on the interviews that don't already have a thread, and keep a list of the ones that already do.
  7. Out of curiosity, did anyone say Montreal or Quebec instead of Canada? Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland instead of the UK? The Basque region or Catalunya instead of Spain?
  8. I ripped all these, where should I upload them? Well, I guess in practice we probably won't really be merging in most cases. More likely copying the formatting out of the new thread and pasting it into the OP of the old one and then deleting the new one. That detail has made old-timers curious for years. But yeah, the Interviews section is going to spark a renaissance in Lanalysis for sure. Meh, just post the link to the old thread as the only reply in the thread and I'll clean it up later.
  9. I feel like this forum used to be better gender-balanced. Yeah, it's partly that, probably myopia even more so. But the US is also the third largest country by population and land mass, somewhat comparable to Europe as a whole. Despite greater homogeneity than Europe as a whole, there's still a lot of regionalism, and states have a lot of prominence in the American federal system. So there are legitimate reasons Americans tend to identify more specifically where they're from beyond narcissism. FWIW, I just put USA. There's actually a decent number of people older than me. Damn. #LanaBoardsSoWhite As someone who oscillates between non-denominational Protestant Christianity and agnosticism, I checked a lot of boxes. Tbh, I thought this forum was a lot gayer than it actually is. There's quite a few of us straights after all. Though I'd still be curious to see what the straight/LGBTQ breakdown is by gender. I love UV but I'm kind of astounded by its dominance.
  10. Another pro-tip: Save table edits in toggle mode. For whatever reason that space tends to happen when you don't use toggle mode and seems to go away when you do use toggle mode.
  11. I don't think "traduction" is an English word (except as an antiquated loan word from French) so call those translations. As far as typing up offline articles, yes, I agree people should get credit for that. Those can also be called transcriptions unless someone can think of a better word to refer to those. ----- Two semi-related suggestions I'd like to propose: 1. That the interviews section open up "clean", in other words, no replies in any interview threads except the already existing ones we move/merge here. If you've got comments, save them for the opening and let everyone have an equal chance to read and comment on fresh threads. 2. Let's post a link to the existing thread as the only reply in any thread inadvertently created for an interview that already has an existing thread. That should make it easy to identify which threads need to be cleaned up and merged later.
  12. Another task that anyone could do is to go through the Latest News or Lana Thoughts sections and make a list of links to all existing threads about interviews going back to the beginning of the forum so we can avoid duplicate threads.
  13. Yeah, I was able to rip the original audio stream for that one. If you post the others I can try those too. Is there someplace you keep these I can upload them to? There were a bunch of font and background color formatting tags I got rid of plus the end tags for the rows got misplaced somehow. Pro-tip: Before you edit a table, switch to toggle mode and copy the code into Notepad or something so you can copy it back if you fuck something up. Idk, but that would be nice. @@TIARNZUS Though we'd still have to do the moving even if they did. @ Didn't you have a thread for this purpose before?
  14. Yeah, I envision doing a quick review of every thread for formatting issues like this at the very end as well. If you're confident a translation is wrong or incomplete I say correct it and credit yourself. If you end up redoing half or more of the translation I would give you the OP and a mention to the other translator. If you do less than half, they keep the OP and you get the mention. If the translation comes from a post in an existing thread, then we're stuck with the original OP anyway, we'll just make sure you get credited when it's edited. I can do the renaming at some point if that's what you guys decide, but I slightly favor publication name first here to facilitate alphabetical sorting since the directory threads give us chronological order anyway. I just thought it was something worth thinking about though. Depending on the source, it might be possible to rip the audio stream directly from the source. If you post links I can try. Does this look right? Yeah, it might be hard to wade through and find if there's already a translation, but it shouldn't be that difficult just to find if there's an existing thread in the News or Thoughts section. I don't see what mod powers have to do with that. You can do advanced searches searching just thread titles and restrict it to the News or Thoughts section. Since you know the date, another thing you can do is order the News and Thoughts section by Topic Started and look at the threads created around that date. If you need any help figuring out how to do that, give me a shout. The alternative would be to leave the existing thread separate and link it in a new thread, but I like keeping all the discussion in one thread if possible.

  16. Something else I implied here but neglected to address directly are what to do with existing interview threads. For interviews after LanaBoards started (September 2012-present), a thread likely already exists. In fact, you should assume one exists and search very hard to find it. @ Let me know if you had something else in mind, but if a thread already exists I think we should try to reuse it. In other words, move it and edit the OP to bring it into conformity with our standard format if it doesn't eliminate any important comments by the OP as described above. However, the problem with moving threads into the Interviews section right now is that it hides them from regular users until we open the Interviews section up to everyone. So I think we should do all the other interviews that we don't already have threads for first and do the ones we do have threads for last.
  17. Ah, it was so nice to come back from vacation and see so much work done while I was gone. Like the little elves in the fairytale about the shoemaker and the elves. Sorry for the long post, but some general thoughts and responses to specific comments: I haven't looked closely enough at the threads to see if there are any examples, but watch out for articles that summarize or excerpt other interviews, as I don't think they should be included, unless they contain something that was cut from the original interview. Another more meta question to think about is, "What is an interview?" There are a lot of profile articles out there that aren't actually interviews. I don't think these should be included, but should we do something with ones we stumble across in the process of working on this? Then there's also a lot of articles that are part profile, part interview. I think these generally should be included in the Interviews section, but there may be some profiles that only contain a quote or two. We should probably discuss whether we think stuff like that should be included or not. One pedantic thing... the term "transcript" or "transcription" really only applies to audio/video interviews that weren't published in written form that you or another member had to listen to and write down. I've seen it misapplied to the text of print interviews in a few threads, or to translations. This is great! This is going to be really helpful in terms of checking if our directories are complete and totally save our ass if any of them have disappeared from the interwebz. I'm not saying this about any translations you guys have done because I haven't really looked at any of them, but as far as translations go, know your capabilities. I've seen some translations on the forum in the past that were worse than a Google translation. More power to you if you can do a good job, but don't be afraid to try to enlist someone else if you think they might do a better job. I know it's a bit more work, but I'd still like to see members that have helped with transcribing or translating and are still active receive credit for their work in the form of "likes" as the OP. I think I have a workable idea for how to do that. Just have the translator or transcriber create a dummy thread in the News section for each translation or transcription. It won't clutter up the News section for regular users and regular users won't be able post in them since threads created in the News section have to be mod-approved before they're visible. Then a mod can just move it to the Interviews section and we can edit it from there and the translator or transcriber will remain the OP. If they're not active anymore, there's not much we can do besides making a new thread and crediting them. Yeah, I think it's wise to archive stuff as much as possible. I made Imgur albums of screenshots for all my sources when I did the Early Shows section. For sources that are still currently available online, a better way to go these days might be archive.is. As far as copyright issues re-posting audio/video that has been taken down or posting magazine scans, I think this might be an area where we ask for forgiveness rather than permission. We have received (and quickly complied with) takedown requests for magazine scans before, but I think we can probably post them until someone complains. I welcome other mod opinion on that question though. I'm all for creating files to keep track of things. So two unfortunate things about the way the forum works: 1) There's no way to move individual posts from one thread to another. You can only merge entire threads. 2) When you merge threads, the oldest OP will automatically become the OP of the new thread. These pose some problems for some of the cleanup work we might like to do with old interview threads. If the OP of an old interview thread was basically just copying and pasting the interview or a link to the interview without much commentary, I say just edit and change the entire OP to our standard format. If there's substantive commentary we'll have to make a decision how we want to handle it probably on a case by case basis. Just post a link to such threads here and we can discuss them. LOL. Yes. Being able to search the full text, transcription, or translation of all her interviews or go through them chronologically is going to be a powerful thing. You have no idea how helpful searching even the partially completed interviews section has been to me. I think some thought should be given to the thread naming format. In the Early Shows section I put the date first and used a Euro-style date format of yyyy.mm.dd so that sorting the section A-Z or Z-A would put them in chronological or reverse chronological order. That said, that's also kind of the purpose of the interview directory threads (and I have more pinned threads to wade through in the Early Shows section) so I also see the argument for beginning thread titles with the publication name as you've already been doing so they can be sorted alphabetically by publication name.
  18. Didn't think so. Just wanted to check because it would have made something I'm going to propose easier, but mods can handle it.
  19. Have fun parsing all the responses to question 2. Is "cracker" a race/ethnicity? Holy shit, I checked a bunch of boxes under religion. Would be curious to see what the orientation breakdown is by gender. The dust paid to FTE & QN. The dust paid to producer duos Robopop, The Nexus, The Flight, and The Rural.
  20. Nope. Just checking what permissions you guys do and don't have. Can you guys see this thread? http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/7573-do-not-approve-test-thread/
  21. This was largely discussed already in this thread. Can I merge or is there a reason we need a separate thread?
  22. Though I don't think anyone ever explicitly spelled out these specific connections before, you're definitely not the first to notice them. In fact, I'd assumed you had already noticed them before. At any rate... Tags is Adam Tagliamonte, who seems to have leaked "Let My Hair Down" and was rumored to be the leaker's source for the Disco sessions and whatnot. Yeah, the Rich Whores basically seems to have been a Lizzy-fronted version of angiescreams: Another fun fact about the drummer: Yeah, I don't think that's really the way it happened at all. Based on the chronology of performance photos/videos/reviews and MySpace archives/screenshots, I believe the Phenomena consisted of Tags & Tim in early 2007, by mid-2007 she had chopped her hair and completely replaced Tags & Tim with the angiescreams line-up but just didn't take their names off anything, and shortly afterwards started using the name The Rich Whores. Though it should be noted: If the YouTube account that leaked "Let My Hair Down" really was Tags, as seems to be the case, he supports this narrative in terms of never being part of a Phenomena lineup that involved Arthur Lynn or the angiescreams/Rich Whores lineup: Speaking of barely breathing, a later lineup of her backing band included Duncan Sheik's drummer.
  23. As a Midwesterner accustomed to straight flat freeways, I never batted an eye at the idea of driving 100 mph. But after driving several hours down the California coast on vacation recently, this is pure fantasy. Highway 1 is too winding to drive anywhere near that fast.
  24. This is very, very hard to know, but I think 10-20 is way underestimating how much we would still have: Yes, it's fanmade, but I would consider it a special case. The original demo it comes from is clearly a mashup of two separate recordings, one of which we had in the form of the studio version of "Trash Magic". The fanmade edit of "The Man I Love" was simply an attempt to recreate this other recording in a listenable form to the best extent possible.

If those lyrics are legit, she should release it on an album titled Je Suis Charli.
