  1. Sent this to some IRL friends of mine about my age who are into Twenty One Pilots. http://www.theonion.com/article/37-year-old-makes-absolutely-heartbreaking-last-di-53535 'Cause I'm a dick.

I've been saying since I think the SIN days that whatever it is, it phonetically sounds like "forania". Don't think it's "Parte foránea" though. Phonetically it sounds more like "palm forania" or "pom forania" or "pomferania". Maybe "Pommes Foraine, yeah"?

Several members have been given warning points and/or verbal warnings for recent comments in this thread. Keep it civil.
  5. Cue to the status updates getting spammed for leak DL requests in 3, 2, 1... Officially protesting my "Kween Supreme" designation.
  6. I'm only about 3 years ahead of you on that. He wouldn't tell me anything.
  7. I was gonna wait until after moving to the new server successfully, but then I was gonna start moving and merging threads. But if it's at all possible to grant contributors the ability to do merges just in the Interviews section that would be cool.
  8. You're probably already aware, but I just wanted to mention the merge option for duplicate threads just in case you weren't.
  9. This. Or from the many producers she worked with on unreleased stuff, I'd love for her to work with The Flight or The Rural again. As for someone new she should work with, T Bone Burnett:
  10. Advanced search -> Find words: "Azealia Banks" -> Match: "Only search in titles" -> Click "Search Now" The rest of the mod staff can overrule me on this of course, but for not deleting posts, I think the possibility of destroying the context of other posts in the thread is sufficient reason. It also breaks quote links. It would definitely be abused by people trying to hide their shitty behavior. Most other forums I've been on don't allow it either. If you don't want it out there, don't post it. And like I said, you always have the "edit" button if you're that determined. I could go on and on. Now, as far as deleting your profile, that can be done (although only one mod currently has the power to do it), but your old posts will end up looking something like this where your username shows up as Guest_OLD_USERNAME_*. You could probably get around it displaying your old username by having it changed immediately before deleting your profile. But I still discourage it without good reason as it breaks @ references, but then again, so do name changes, which is annoying. I'm fine with whatever on the emote front, but one thing that was annoying in the past when changes were made to the emote list is it ended up breaking some emotes in old posts.
  11. I don't know where you're getting this "because the server is so cheap" thing or even what you mean by that. However, it is true that we don't have any "Delete all posts by X user" button. Even if we had that-- and I wish we did, just for dealing with spammers-- I don't think it would be appropriate for mods to use in other cases, like users wishing to deactivate because it would destroy the flow and context of discussion in a lot of threads. If someone is really that determined to erase their posts, they always have the edit button. But I don't think we should encourage that or make it easy for people to do that for the flow/context reasons I mentioned. Again, we don't allow topic deletion because that would mean deleting other people's posts along with it against their will. It's been a longstanding rule of LanaBoards not to allow trading through the site. People publicly admitting they have unleaked Lana tracks creates a lot of drama, but more importantly it attracts unwanted attention from Lana's management. There's a reason LanaBoards has lasted almost 4 years while LDR.FM didn't even last 3 months. Yes, we've gotten a little lax lately in proactively policing other stuff that goes on in the Audio thread, like direct download links, but the wisest response to that should be to tighten that back up, not loosen up in other areas. These policies are in place to protect the forum from legal threats.
  12. I could get behind a no holds barred section on one condition and one condition only: That it must take the form of a freestyle rap battle. I'm not even joking.
  13. I don't know how easy something like this would be to do-- my suspicion is IPBoard is probably geared more towards facilitating approval/permission-based actions-- but I think something like this could be a good idea.
  14. I, for one, welcome our new LanaBoards overlord! You should get @@FredRed to voice Lana in the sequel. At this point I can unequivocally say I am dragging down the mean attractiveness of the mod staff. It's probably wishful thinking, but I'm hoping your niceness has a trickle down, culture shifting effect on the forum. You still have your Lollapalooza wristband on?! How has it not disintegrated by now? Did you go the whole weekend, or just Thursday?
  15. I like this idea as long as it's reviewable by the mods. I wouldn't want to create something that could be abused by a clique of members to silence another member. Yeah, it would be great to get some volunteers with expertise in what's the best quality original version of each photo. Contributor status with OP-editing privileges in this section might be appropriate for that. I personally couldn't give a shit about the appearance of the site-- I'm more interested in functionality-- but everybody seems to want it, so I'm all for it. The only thing is the other side of the equation needs to be considered. There were several times in the past I think Tiarnan attempted to update things and it ended up breaking existing functionality. But if it can be done without breaking anything important that would be great. I suspect that probably is the case, but I don't know of any preventative measures that can't be circumvented in some way. I can think of ways to slow them down, and for us to react faster, but we're all ears for ways to prevent it.
  16. I agree more time zone diversity could be beneficial for things like spam clean-up. But I think expanding the mod staff too much could make consensus on more complicated moderating issues more difficult. I'm not really sure you're very well-positioned to be making this critique, nor am I sure that our following this suggestion would work out well for you. I'm not necessarily opposed to more transparency and clarity-- there certainly could stand to be more communication amongst the mods and admin regarding these kinds of decisions than in the past-- but I have a feeling this clarity is likely to manifest itself in the form of stricter application. That said, transparency is not always a positive good. Some disciplinary measures are best handled privately and discreetly. I do agree that our forum guidelines could use some updating, however, as there are certainly some things we don't allow that aren't covered well in the current language. In principle, I completely agree. In practice, I completely don't. One thread about this particular extraneous subject isn't worth the attendant drama, let alone lengthy server outages due to DDoS attacks that take down everything else with it. This is why we can't have nice things, or even mediocre things.
  17. The only thread in which saying "THIS BITCH" is warranted.
  18. In light of the possible sale of LanaBoards, I think it might not be be a bad idea to put our efforts on this section on hold until that shakes out. Instead, it would probably be better to focus on archiving all interview information so that nothing's lost if something happens to the forum. The idea of the forum going down and all it's information being lost forever like LDR.FM haunts me. Obviously Tiarnan periodically makes a backup, but I'm not sure if it's in a form useful for anything other than restoring the forum, and in any event I wouldn't count on cooperation from him, especially if he's no longer running the site. So I think it's imperative that independent efforts are made to attempt to archive the forum in some way. archive.org and archive.is are great tools, but we would still need a way to automate archiving the forum's many pages. I've also looked at tools like HTTrack, which seems promising, for creating an offline copy. But things like pages only accessible to register users present difficulties with all of these tools. If you have any other ideas to suggest, I'd be happy to hear them and perhaps work with you on them.
  19. Ha, not only is that not what was asked, but her story about it standing for her grandmother's name is really questionable.

  21. Why put limits on yourself like this?
  22. Nope, it's just as perfect a synch as possible in Audacity. The only thing I did was reduce the volume of both the single and orchestral versions by 6 dB each so that the demo instrumentation could still be heard. All of which makes perfectly obvious that the later versions use the same vocal take as the demo, but with the lines "channeling angels in the new age now" punched in. Very consistent with the idea that it may not originally have been written for The Great Gatsby and was subsequently modified to suit.
