  1. I could get behind a no holds barred section on one condition and one condition only: That it must take the form of a freestyle rap battle. I'm not even joking.
  2. I don't know how easy something like this would be to do-- my suspicion is IPBoard is probably geared more towards facilitating approval/permission-based actions-- but I think something like this could be a good idea.
  3. I like this idea as long as it's reviewable by the mods. I wouldn't want to create something that could be abused by a clique of members to silence another member. Yeah, it would be great to get some volunteers with expertise in what's the best quality original version of each photo. Contributor status with OP-editing privileges in this section might be appropriate for that. I personally couldn't give a shit about the appearance of the site-- I'm more interested in functionality-- but everybody seems to want it, so I'm all for it. The only thing is the other side of the equation needs to be considered. There were several times in the past I think Tiarnan attempted to update things and it ended up breaking existing functionality. But if it can be done without breaking anything important that would be great. I suspect that probably is the case, but I don't know of any preventative measures that can't be circumvented in some way. I can think of ways to slow them down, and for us to react faster, but we're all ears for ways to prevent it.
  4. I agree more time zone diversity could be beneficial for things like spam clean-up. But I think expanding the mod staff too much could make consensus on more complicated moderating issues more difficult. I'm not really sure you're very well-positioned to be making this critique, nor am I sure that our following this suggestion would work out well for you. I'm not necessarily opposed to more transparency and clarity-- there certainly could stand to be more communication amongst the mods and admin regarding these kinds of decisions than in the past-- but I have a feeling this clarity is likely to manifest itself in the form of stricter application. That said, transparency is not always a positive good. Some disciplinary measures are best handled privately and discreetly. I do agree that our forum guidelines could use some updating, however, as there are certainly some things we don't allow that aren't covered well in the current language. In principle, I completely agree. In practice, I completely don't. One thread about this particular extraneous subject isn't worth the attendant drama, let alone lengthy server outages due to DDoS attacks that take down everything else with it. This is why we can't have nice things, or even mediocre things.
  5. The only thread in which saying "THIS BITCH" is warranted.
  6. Ha, not only is that not what was asked, but her story about it standing for her grandmother's name is really questionable.

  8. Why put limits on yourself like this?
  9. Nope, it's just as perfect a synch as possible in Audacity. The only thing I did was reduce the volume of both the single and orchestral versions by 6 dB each so that the demo instrumentation could still be heard. All of which makes perfectly obvious that the later versions use the same vocal take as the demo, but with the lines "channeling angels in the new age now" punched in. Very consistent with the idea that it may not originally have been written for The Great Gatsby and was subsequently modified to suit.
  10. Um, unless someone is able to get a hold of the masters to make a pressing, by definition there is no good source to get an AKA vinyl. I do not understand why anyone would want essentially mp3s on vinyl. Eh, there are good reasons to be skeptical it was originally written specifically for the film.
  11. Does this thing actually have an interview or not?
  12. Does this thing have an interview? If so, can someone post it and translate it?
  13. Does this thing have an interview?
  14. Does this thing have an interview?
  15. Looks like it was spread by articles like this Gigwise post, but the copyright claim is from Pacific Coast News.
  16. Anyone have a link to a re-up of this interview and know what/where it's from?
  17. Another task that anyone could do is to go through the Latest News or Lana Thoughts sections and make a list of links to all existing threads about interviews going back to the beginning of the forum so we can avoid duplicate threads.
  18. This was largely discussed already in this thread. Can I merge or is there a reason we need a separate thread?
  19. Though I don't think anyone ever explicitly spelled out these specific connections before, you're definitely not the first to notice them. In fact, I'd assumed you had already noticed them before. At any rate... Tags is Adam Tagliamonte, who seems to have leaked "Let My Hair Down" and was rumored to be the leaker's source for the Disco sessions and whatnot. Yeah, the Rich Whores basically seems to have been a Lizzy-fronted version of angiescreams: Another fun fact about the drummer: Yeah, I don't think that's really the way it happened at all. Based on the chronology of performance photos/videos/reviews and MySpace archives/screenshots, I believe the Phenomena consisted of Tags & Tim in early 2007, by mid-2007 she had chopped her hair and completely replaced Tags & Tim with the angiescreams line-up but just didn't take their names off anything, and shortly afterwards started using the name The Rich Whores. Though it should be noted: If the YouTube account that leaked "Let My Hair Down" really was Tags, as seems to be the case, he supports this narrative in terms of never being part of a Phenomena lineup that involved Arthur Lynn or the angiescreams/Rich Whores lineup: Speaking of barely breathing, a later lineup of her backing band included Duncan Sheik's drummer.
  20. As a Midwesterner accustomed to straight flat freeways, I never batted an eye at the idea of driving 100 mph. But after driving several hours down the California coast on vacation recently, this is pure fantasy. Highway 1 is too winding to drive anywhere near that fast.
  21. This is very, very hard to know, but I think 10-20 is way underestimating how much we would still have: Yes, it's fanmade, but I would consider it a special case. The original demo it comes from is clearly a mashup of two separate recordings, one of which we had in the form of the studio version of "Trash Magic". The fanmade edit of "The Man I Love" was simply an attempt to recreate this other recording in a listenable form to the best extent possible.
