i don’t get why lana gets so mad when people say she has a persona? like it's baffling to me. she obviously does have a persona, or at least had for the first three albums she put out. and so many well respected artists had personas as well so it’s not like it’s an insult to her art.. if anything crafting a persona takes a lot of skill and careful storytelling so it’s a compliment.
 
it’s like she wants to have her cake and eat it too. to be considered a completely genuine artist whose every song is autobiographical AND sing about drug lord boyfriends and taking on the role of a classic femme fatale at the same time. girl you gotta pick one

All the critic's pals on Twitter seem to think it's okay for the critic to have an opinion on sis and her art, but it's not okay for sis have an opinion on what the critic says about her.
 
I think they're salty because nobody cares about reviews and critics as much as they did 20 years ago or whatever, so they resorted to this "millennials are entitled and can't take criticism" argument.

Kacey won AOTY last year so who knows.. Lana might have a shot at winning

The 'you should feel honoured that this critic decided to write about you' feeling among critics, is the worst load of garbage around, as though any piece is written out of a loving wish to impart wisdom to a poor, deluded artist, rather than just to sell magazines or create content for a website.
 
Also, I'll bang on about the 'persona' thing until every journalist drops it. My challenge to everyone who talks about Lana's persona: name a successful artist who does not have a persona, or is authentic. Nobody can, because authenticity is a selling point, not an actual thing that artists 'have'.

Their reasons for slamming her and pushing the idea that she has a persona are so stupid tho. Things like she's had fillers or has a stage name. Like, those things don't make a persona?

As you said: they detract from her vocals and imo they detract from the instrumental too because there are all these other effects/instruments in it but the bells drown them all out.

I feel like Lana is very ingenuine in interviews. I think she's generally a happy person and all that, but she hardly shows her "deep" side in interviews because she knows it's not received well and she doesn't want to be labelled a sad girl. She never really tells us what her songs are about, she pretends to be happier than she is. When she said FILY is about a "friend" because she would sing how awesome California is, I don't buy it. I'm sure she likes California but she must also realize what that place does to a person (she wrote about that in Heroin as well). She doesn't owe us her life story or to tell us how she's feeling all the time, but this does lead to some awkwardness in interviews sometimes because I know sis is lying.

I don't believe that it isn't about her. Why did she sing it in the first person? If it isn't about her, then the entire double mv makes absolutely no sense, because every single scene in it features her. There are peripheral characters, but nobody else features.
 
She just didn't want to have to answer questions about some of the more controversial lyrics in it, so she said that it isn't about her.

I think TNBAR sounds much more LFL than NFR, despite what she said on the live stream.

I think she'll be nominated but I don't expect her to win. It's really political and I just don't know if the good sis can get past Taylor, Ari, or even Billie ...
