i’m glad to see other people not happy with jack’s production omg. i remember the first time i listened to mac i didn’t like it at all because it sounded so .. fake?? like electronic and void. like everything was done with downloaded midi keyboards and not actual instruments being played by human hands and recorded. i’m not a fan of any of the other people he produces for either or his own music so maybe it’s just a personal taste thing but the production on nfr (album as a whole) just seems very flat, dull, empty, emotionless, etc. there’s like no depth to his production at all. maybe it’s just a personal preference thing again and it’s just not a sound i can personally connect to but others very well may enjoy it but like idk.. overall jack just seems really Lacking as a producer in my opinion. i think the thing that bothers me the most is how simple it is and i’m kind of confused at lana because production wise the last two albums have felt very regressive, especially following honeymoon which was incredible so i just don’t know if her taste has changed or like what happened to make her go from ultraviolence and honeymoon instrumentals to lust for life (the absolute most basic) and nfr (a step but from lfl but still not that great). like what happened lol

sorry this is probably really repetitive i’m tired and don’t wanna look back over it

Venice Bitch could have easily been a 6:05 song.
Until that point the song actually develops and grows but everything after that just feels like it's going on for the sake of it.

    ... anyway

I feel like there's not enough negativity in this thread lately, can we talk about how uninspired L+F cover is?

we all know the concept for the album is something she made up last minute to cover her ass, the same goes for the cover as well probably hence its lack of inspiration

I mean let's go through all the covers together:

    The Family Jewels
the backdrop is iconic and gives off this aura of royalty that is both echoed by the title and by the album itself the album is a full-fledged painting, beind hand-tinted, which is honestly amazing? it contributes to its uniqueness since you can't replicate it there's an actual inspiration, an old magazine that i can't really recall right now the hand-written is just iconic Electra Heart
She's sporting a hair look that's straight out of the 50s The design is very simple, yet does the job of conveying a vintage aura while still being possibly the most 2010s sounding album of the decade The distortion is really good and kinda lets you in on the fact that EH does in fact have a dark side FROOT
I mean it's just a work of a art, from the grainy backdrop to her rainbow hair, etc... The rainbow title as a homage to her gay fanbase the 80s vibe, which are echoed by the production which definitely has an 80s dance quality to it Love + Fear
A cropped black and white picture of her The logo written with Photoshops' deafult font There's... literally nothing else No inspiration, no cultural references, nothing that suggests the vibe of the album
yet people say Marina hasn't changed and hasn't lost her shine? lol

I get what you‘re saying but a music video, just like movies or tv shows, is a form of acting and in that case any movie about war would be problematic because there are still wars in the world and veterans are suffering consequences because of war or any movie about poor families for example would obviously be portrayed by rich actors or any movie with a murder in it would be insensitive to people who had someone pass away because their family member was murdered by someone... it just feels to me like you can see a problem anywhere if you want to. Like obviously poverty is very real and not a joke but i never felt like lana was being like „look, i‘m poor“ and if she portrayed a sex worker in tropico she played a character... idk it just seems too far-fetched i feel like this is entering the whole born to die glamorizes suicide discussion which thankfully died down...

OT: cant wait to see the music video and also how did that clown account get us discussing this stuff...

Yeah but my issue personally is that all these snippets sound like a step back from Crybaby, to me they all sound like watered down demo versions of Cry Baby songs. I understand she may have said the album has a "different sound" but it's really the same sound she has always done just a little bit worse lol. I'm disappointed too because Cry Baby is one of my fav albums ever but I'll still give K-12 a good chance

I was so surprised when this was announced and released so soon after UV. Its so mellow and definitely a slow burn. I wasn't that into it at first as a whole but I've come to like it a lot. The title track gets some hate, but its one her most cinematic songs (and one of the only ones that actually sounds like it has real strings in it). Her BBC performance of it is God Tier and I actually prefer it to the OG. The guitar replacing the strings is so HAUNTING. The synth instead of backing vocals. <3 The rock out during the 'dreaming away your life' part. <3 It's perfect. I wish her concerts were more like this shit.

This album (like UV and BTD kinda) I think is MUCH stronger in its first half. I love it all up until right after burnt Norton and I think it loses a bit of steam. Hot take but The Blackest Day and Religion and Salvatore are not in my top songs by her by ANY means. They aren't bad, but I never feel compelled to listen to them on their own. The creepy laughing man in Salvatore is amazing tho and its my favorite part of the song and one of my favorite moments on the record. The cover is maybe my least favorite by her. Its just whatever.

Anyways, a very good, cohesive record, but the second half loses me.

I don't like Angels Forever. I haven't even downloaded it, but I've downloaded shit like Scarface and Come when you call me AMERICA so that's saying something. AFFA actually annoys me when I listen to it, it sounds so boring.
