i love that lana didn't seem awkward in it and she wasn't overshadowed as i thought she was gonna be, song-wise though i find it so bland. which i expected anyway cos that's how i feel in general about ariana and she's lead vocals

I want to take this moment to say that Lana's soundtrack catalogue is so so so bad. She, the most cinematic artist of the century, should have FANTASTIC and acclaimed soundtracks.
Her only actually good soundtrack is the incredible Young and Beautiful. Then Big Eyes (amazing song) and Once Upon a Time.
The rest I don't even remember.
I hope some day she serves another Y&B for a huge film.

i reckon the melody of the chorus is kinda creepy but it's why i love it

old but one of my biggest is "who the fuck is jim?" she says it's jim beam, but she also references her alleged relationship with jimmy gnecco countless times (the going to the gas station for snacks thing) in countless songs which they apparently did together. he fits the profile in so many songs on ultraviolence
don't quote me on this but if i remember at one point she said the ultraviolence song was inspired by jim morrison and pamela courson's relationship, given a book i read about them it does seem quite fitting in some ways. plus she references jim morrison officially in god's & monsters
who the fuck is jim who knows

i agree i doubt she'll top this, but it depends what's meant by 'topping it' really. even if NFR hadn't received the acclaim it has and despite the messy era and the countless snippets we've heard, i feel like it's incredibly accomplished and breaks away from a lot of her old formula but without alienating fans and with some stellar less introspective songwriting, i feel like her eyes are more open on this record but not in the contrived way it was on LFL. for me on the latter you could hear she was struggling with her identity as an artist and it's what made it so awkward for me. now.. she seems comfortable and i think that's partly why this album has delivered more than i ever thought it would
idk.. part of me feels like she's hitting her 'golden era' where she's really hit her stride and although it could mean more records that don't resonate in the same way or are even as successful i think she's willing to play a bit more and she's unapologetic. i actually feel she might surprise us and for me personally that's exciting no matter what happens

agreed. much preferred the original snippet. i realise it "wouldn't have been cohesive" necessarily but i wanted that heavy bass and louder vocals
