While the Guardian review was a tired take, the Telegraph review was close to being offensively misogynistic.

    "one-trick-pony". "over-sensitive". "self-absorbed".

    fuck him.

it's 86 now, thanks to telegraph. i REALLY don't understand. love her or hate her, its worth is not 60... like, it's CLEAR

"Elizabeth Grant found fame in 2011 with a name change and touch of Botox" like WTF? if she was a man, would they make a comment like this? taylor swift had some points with the song "the man" apparently... imagine if they wrote "came into fame with a funny stage name and pineapple hair" for The Weeknd...

So your way of countering and empathizing with the immense pressure some women face in regards to their appearance is to say Lana looks atrocious, that her face is unbalanced, and that she is destroying herself.

Her going out of her way to attack Kanye's politics before so many other people's is really annoying to me. Like her whole thing to him on Twitter, which led to the beef with Azealia Banks. Not only was that whole thing cringe-worthy (especially that faux-hood "I won't not fuck you the fuck up" and "you know the addy" which imo reinforced the points Banks was making about her approprating poverty), but I found myself left thinking "after your notorious lack of interest in political shit, you decide to break your near-silence on these things to go after two mentally ill POC, who are already basically pariahs in the entertainment industry."

I mean, I get that she was actually friends with Kanye and Azealia so she's more emotionally invested in their thoughts, but I still didn't think it looked very good.

K guys so I'm still processing but I have some thoughts I just wanna chime in with. I was shaken to my core the first few listens but I think I've calmed down enough so it's not just the excitement talking.

I was NOT READY for the entire final 1:30 of Cinnamon Girl. Like, I cannot handle it, it could have gone so wrong but it was just enough. Those swelling string synth shits try to pull teardrops from my eyes, and one of these days it'll happen.

Oh OK those drums in California that kick in right at the front around the 2nd verse (is that when?) shot me in the chest.

LOL I avoided most commentary on the pre-release thread but knew that everyone hated How To Disappear. I'd never heard even the live performance of it so I went in totally blind. Once I heard the chorus I was like "OMG, this is the one everyone hates???" It's cheap and reductive at times but also so cheeky and a bit clever, it made me laugh.

And ok this is lame, but I love Bartender especially because it makes me feel seen. I'm a recovering alcoholic who quit drinking almost 4 years ago, and even though I don't miss drinking, I miss the camaraderie I used to have at bars. And whenever I'm out with others, I get Coke with cherry syrup to drink. So like obviously the lines "Baby remember? I'm not drinking wine... but the cherry Coke you serve is fine," really got me. My girl gets it. <3

i read the guardian article and i'm obviously biased as a fan but it really pissed me off at some parts. like i get it that her music is not for everyone's taste but i found that review very unprofessional. he could have given it a little more thought and move on from this 2012 mindset where hating on her and claiming that she's shallow is considered cool. that review really stayed on the surface, it sounds like he just put it on as background music and then scribbled down a few things that accidentally caught his attention, added his preconcepcions about her, and then bam! article finished.

ok but where's the most important review of them all

I can't even disagree vehemently with it like I did with the UK papers' reviews; the Variety review is just... so... vapid. It says so little about the actual artistic or musical merits (or otherwise) of the album or the critic's own thoughts (that don't just sound like some bizarre amateurish thesis about 'cult artists') that it's almost impossible to find anything in particular that's it's trying to say.

Genuinely one of the most useless album reviews I've read in a long time.

She just tweeted that she listened to NFR while on mushrooms the entire day and thinks it's the album of the year so we're in for a treat lol

No surprises so far. But there are definitely a few very interesting and revealing reviews where it feels like the person reviewing the album is quite aware that she's having a moment, ''last laugh'' kind of moment, and they don't want to join in for obvious reasons. Giving this album 3 stars is straight up trolling.

I read Alexis's review and can't disagree with it LMAO but clearly we just have different tastes. I think he has far too many negative preconceived notions about Lana and he has already decided what the themes of all of her song are. And I don't think it's a negative thing for an artist to stay relatively within their own world when it is SO different from everything else others are doing and if it's similar it's because they've copied her LOL. IMO the review shouldn't focus on what she has done in the past it should review the latest body of work in isolation.

I skimmed  through the guardian review and honestly it's not true she keeps repeating herself... why does she have to become someone else to get praise? Of course there are certain staples in her music and songwriting but I don't see how this is a bad thing?  I don't believe this album is just a repetition of her previous work.
