OMG just realized that whoever heard the crickets at the start of HBTB was correct when they predicted Freak would have crickets in them. Go listen to the preview, there is a cricket sound effect in the background, and since HBTB follows Freak on the tracklist, it makes sense you can hear a faint cricket sound at the start.

It's literally coming out TOMORROW. We can wait. The sense of entitlement in this fanbase is ridiculous.

I'm not kidding, while the chorus of Music To Watch Boys To is already kind of in my head, it's almost entirely acapella in the chorus. Almost sounds like a re-recorded early demo like Methamphetamines in that it's so sparse. I can't believe how opposite it is to what many were expecting.

Flame so hot that they turn blue (mm-hm-mm),
Palms reflecting in your eyes, like an endless summer,
That's the way I feel for you,
If time stood still I'd take this moment,
    Make it last forever,

Your head (?) full of fire,
    I'm risin' up, risin up,
My heart loves full of fire,
    Love's full of fire (adlib),

    Baby if you wanna leave,
    Come to California,
Be a Freak like me, too.

The sampler starts with Terrence Loves You and her riding in a roof-less car with the look from the UO cover, then she is reading a map with the album cover look out the top of the car. Actually, the car appears to be the Starline van, nvm lol.

Now Music To Watch Boys To. Lower your expectations for an upbeat bop, it's almost entirely acapella in the chorus and pretty downtempo. It's a rather short snippet but the chorus lyrics seem to be:

    I like you a lot,
Putting on my music while I'm watching the boys,
So I do what you want,
Sounds of grunge(?) just to soak up the noise
    We're ribbons on ice(?),
Playing their guitars, only one of my toys,
Cause I like you a lot,
No holds barred, I've been sent to destroy. Freak next. Includes the lyrics endless summer, entirely strings in what seems to be the verses, then the pre-chorus includes some beats, truly embodying muddy trap with muffled beats. The chorus is amazing, it's like a downtempo Florida Kilos, a very dark vibe with some echoey guitar strums, and as I say, muffled beats. Slower and more dark than HBTB, but very much related. It is to HBTB what Honeymoon is to Terrence Loves You - a darker cousin.

I had a bizarre theory about Honeymoon that I don't think anyone has brought up yet. Well, I feel as if Honeymoon has something to do with time. Honeymoon (the song) and Terrence Loves You use a lot of archaic vocabulary and phrases. For example, not many people use the phrase "neither fought nor found" but Lana does in the bridge of Honeymoon. Plus, she sings "never dare change thee" (which is simply an old word that was used to mean "you". Also note that my dictionary states that it should be "restricted to archaic or religious contexts", and obviously the song doesn't have a religious theme, so I feel like it's definitely supposed to be set in the past.) Lana's language in both Honeymoon and Terrence Loves You evoke a sense of formality that you don't usually hear in modern music. Also, from what has been described about Music To Watch Boys To (retro film noir) and God Knows I Tried (gospel song), it's quite possible to conclude the first portion of the album is set in the past, most likely in the Jazz Age in the 20's - seeing as both the songs at the start of the album have clear jazz influences. Gospel music also started to become quite popular just after the 20's, so it would make sense that it comes after the jazz-influenced songs.

As the album progresses, Lana has stated that it builds up to a lot of more mid-tempo and uptempo songs, which could symbolise the songs working towards a more present-day setting. High By The Beach sounds like it could be from the 60's. We then have Burnt Norton as an interlude, which, by the way, is a poem about time - how the past, present and future are all connected. This would make a lot of sense in relation to my theory of the album working with time. Lana also said in her interview with James Franco that the album then returns to its initial jazzy sound at the end, which probably means the songs slow down towards the end again (which could make sense considering there's a jazz cover to conclude). Also, 24 sounds like it could relate to this theme of time on the record.

Maybe the story is Lana looking into the future, "dreaming away" her life, and then around the interlude, she starts to return to reality.

wtf TOW is so great, it was the biggest surprise on the whole record for me, such beautiful guitars and her voice was very heartfelt while playful with these crooner-like falsetos. She really did make something of the song.

People complaining about Lana's weight should post first in the Pictures of You thread. If you don't look better than this your opinion is invalid:
