Lust For Life - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
longtimeman replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
In honour of the birthday of L4L, here is one of the best videos related to the record. -
I guess anybody can vote for whoever they want, but just a reminder of how the last go around with Trump started and ended. This time will be a lot worse, because he knows the stakes are even higher. I know there are plenty of accelerationists on the left as well, but they're not the friends of anyone who is a minority, a woman, or basically any category that is not a Christian nationalist.

I've heard him interviewed, and he's really on top of the history side of things - remembering facts, details, specifics. All the things that Lana is completely useless with. And he seems to really remember his time working with Lana very fondly, so there's no reason for him not to go into detail. However, it will have to be someone from here, because in the context of his career, Lana is one of the more niche artists he's worked with, and Tropico is definitely the most obscure part of their collaboration, not helped by the fact that 'Tropico' is also the name of a different, well known and official (movie) release.

Donald Trump Injured After Assassination Attempt at Rally

I know it's pretty much pointless to try to fight disinformation, but this guy is a right wing hoaxer. https://x.com/Shayan86/status/1812351317639119326 -

Which Lana Del Rey song do you want to live your whole life in it?
longtimeman replied to SalvaWHORE's topic in Lana Thoughts
Most of my favourites aren't really songs I should live in, for my own wellbeing, but this is certainly a moment I would live in forever. -
Your Comfort Shows, Movies?
longtimeman replied to Make me your Dream Life's topic in Movies & Television
What is it with the great taste of Lana stans - all my favourites have been named already These two Bergman movies, more than anything else (Lynch is the other great one), build worlds that are not necessarily comfortable, but are so all enveloping and inspiring and incredible that they were the first that came to mind when I read the thread title. I had an amazing 5 hour conversation with my best friend (and fellow Lana stan) after showing him Persona for the first time. Not many films can do that. -
Funny/Cringe/No Context Internet Content About Lana

Speaking of AI (I assume) this is kind of both funny and cringe. -
Lana Del Rey and Quavo “Tough” - OUT NOW!
longtimeman replied to rocknrollgroupie's topic in New Releases
I've only watched a few of them, but I've been skimming the thumbnails, and there are way too many people assuming that Lana and Quavo are a couple, based on the clip -

Is this the first time she's been paired with Enigma? It works really well actually. -
Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
longtimeman replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
From all available evidence, she doesn't really know how to play, but she can play her own songs that are based on strumming or picking out chords. She also doesn't hold a guitar like a guitar player, but that's not necessarily a criticisim. -
Lana Del Rey and Quavo “Tough” - OUT NOW!
longtimeman replied to rocknrollgroupie's topic in New Releases
I just woke up, and listened about five times to just the audio, then watched the video. I don't know if this has been talked about yet but imo for Lana fans, the video is about 1000x better experience than just the audio. It's been a little while since this has happened. -

Biden vs. Trump, First Debate of Election 2024 - June 27, 2024
longtimeman replied to American Whore's topic in World News
Very much this. I can't believe how many people on the left seem to have forgotten the absolute chaos of the Trump years, and that wasn't as bad, because it was something that could be put down to a fluke or people not knowing just how bad he'd be. If he gets in after a failed coup, being a convicted felon, and doubling down on the fascist tendencies, I think America will never recover. -

This is giving me the same sinking feeling I had after the first Hilary/Trump debate. -
Thanks for posting, Fred. My world's continue to collide! Interestingly, the other artists she covered that show were Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana. As sung by an all time legend, that's not bad company to be in! https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/patti-smith/2024/brighton-dome-brighton-england-2b572c0e.html

I got their compilation 'Banned In DC' a long time ago, and somehow forgot about it, but I'll have to find it again. They were a fantastic band. Anyone who was seeing bands back then always seems to say they stood out even among the legends of Hardcore.

It sounds like you've got enough music to catch up on then That branch of music really is an endless well to dive into, so it's hard to know even where to start, but if you have someone who knows your tastes recommending them, that's probably the best way to go. Baby's on Fire is my favourite Eno song, actually, and was coincidentally covered by the guitarist of Pere Ubu, who I recommended above! It's a cassette recording from the mid 1970s, so it's pretty rough, but putting it here for fun.

I love a lot of it. There are whole scenes that came out of lesser known (for music) cities all over the world that never even released vinyl records, mostly only coming out on Cassette. It's not the only golden age of underground music, but it's one of them. I'm not much into Eno, but I have a big Zappa collection. When I was still buying CDs, I amassed about forty of his releases, and by most Zappa fans' standards, I'm a beginner lol. Captain Beefheart's even better, in my opinion, even though a bunch of dorks on Youtube have turned him into a meme and think they're being funny by crapping on his music. A couple of the bands who somehow blended Zappa/Beefheart with Punk/post-punk. The Birthday Party - Fears of Gun Pere Ubu - 30 Seconds over Tokyo

I'd call it Pop Rock or just rock.

Oh wow - Black Flag are definitely my energy. I never saw them, but did see the Rollins Band on the Get Some and Come Again tour (which was amazing), and have gone to one of his spoken word shows. I love how supportive he is of female punk. Aside from that, the records Black Flag made before Rollins joined are the pinnacle of loud-short-fast music as far as I'm concerned Which other hardcore bands have you been listening to?
