Still working with a pretty LQ image here, but I finished my alternate FROOT cover for the acoustics! They look so nice next to one another.

As a debut album, Lana Del Ray is quite an astonishing accomplishment. An artist's first album usually reflects its creator's identity crisis through a glaring inconsistency, but LDR is incredibly coherent and thought-out. Del Rey had meticulously crafted the sound and imagery of her project. The lyrics, reflecting those from later works, both embody her own personal struggles and utilize a vintage, melodramatic aesthetic to convey these emotions. The album combines a multitude of diverse genres, but rarely feels inconsistent, thanks to the artistry of Del Rey and her producer, David Kahne. The minor missteps are found in tracks that try a bit too hard to sound innovative, particularly in the partly-spoken track, Brite Lites. Fortunately, though, the blips are fleeting moments of experimentation amidst a larger experience and geniously-crafted atmosphere that gradually takes hold of its listener. Most importantly, however, is the ingenuity of this album that solidifies the originality and creativity of an artist, who is far too often misconstrued as being manufactured.

    90/100

If she doesn't give any important interview next month, we need to accept that Honeymoon is not coming this year.

You really think so? I'm flattered.

When she released Electra Heart I was just starting to get into Charli, and since Marina took such a long hiatus after EH and during it kept making "sellout" moves and coming off as more contrived, I hopped on Charli as my new fave. But I would definitely say Marina is back full force. She is undeniably the queen of pop.

I don't know why everyone clings to Better Than That... I mean, such a juvenile lyric, I think that should suit more a letter than a song, and people think "ooh, marina's so sassy and risky!" but whenever you're trying to shade someone and you put that into your art it looks basic and really childish.

I had real high hopes with this album and seriously, it is such a letdown. At least compared to TFJ and EH. If Froot was her first album maybe I'd dig it.

But I know she can do better than that.

Exceptional work from Miss Del Rey, as expected. ★★★★☆
I'd say this was an era when Lana Del Rey was experimenting with her vocal abilities, seeking her strengths. Lana Del Ray was not as strong as Born To Die, though it's arguably stronger than Ultraviolence. However, the recording of "Yayo" was at its best on this record. It was indeed a fabulous debut. Yet there are a few qualities missing. There is a lot of controversy upon the spelling of "Ray" as Miss Del Rey's current stage name is spelt with an e. Even though that is not important, I believe the artist received a fair bit of unnecessary negative criticism, like she wasn't already receiving enough. It is a great shame that a lovely piece of work like this album was removed from sales due to lack of popularity and a new start in which Del Rey sought. But thanks to the Internet, this lovely album is still accessible to those who wish to listen to it. The most spectacular feature of this record--and also the most disappointing, regarding it being removed from stores--is that all the songs were solely written by the songstress herself! Very rarely you get this and I find it truly remarkable. This is what gives her debut a goddess-like glow, almost setting a role modelling example how other records should be. You can most definitely see Del Rey's talent, not only in her gorgeous voice, but her striking songwriting skills.

That sounds so fucking professional... I would give it a five buuut I want to be professional.

I love Emile but I'm glad that he didn't work on Ultraviolence. It's perfect the way it is.
