The thing that seems to be getting lost in translation is that Lana was speaking on her own history and experiences. She wasn't intending to shade any of the artists she mentioned. I'm only saying this because I'm seeing the words "shade" and "drag" being mentioned over and over. I kind of wish more people would be willing to see her particular side of things and look into her history rather than just attacking (but it's the internet so who am I kidding). Her wording definitely sucked though. She was a bit too open with her thoughts, which can so easily be misinterpreted when you're a public figure.

Not to derail this thread, but our perception is only within the context of our immediate history and learned experience. Throughout history gingers have been treated as lesser. There were times in Ancient Egypt when red heads were deemed evil and killed, or even sacrificed by being buried alive. During the 15th Century witch hunts, red headed women were burned at the steak because red hair was a sign of the devil. Nowadays we're just mocked by society as being soulless, dumb or backwoods hillbillies. I have always been enamoured with MIA's video for Born Free where gingers are hunted down and killed. All of that said, there have also been times throughout history where gingers were hailed as special, unique and otherworldly. So just goes to show you that society's perception is forever changing and evolving.

I get both sides, how it can b misconstrued, but she literally explained her reasoning when she didnt have to. Things can't always be about what ur focused on, sometimes being able to say what u'd like to say, is very much needed. Having someone express their genuine thoughts and having that morphed into something w/o having consideration of whats truly being said is INSANE. What about the people who can't speak up bc they're afraid of being in one category or the other?
