these performances were more low key than i was expecting, but she sounded fantastic and camera roll was super heartfelt. i guess it makes sense that she wouldn't have big, bombastic tv performances for this album– she wouldn't want it to seem like she's making a party out of very real and not so distant heartbreak. can't wait to see her in feb.! star crossed is prob my fav release of the year so far, though miss BB may very well take that spot in a few short weeks

Do you think Lana could happen if she debut with BTD now?
rightofjupiter replied to palemoonbaby's topic in Lana Thoughts
just in terms of sound i do think it feel a little dated to it's release period (2012); i think she'd prob happen in a smaller way. but VG doesn't sound dated at all, so idk, maybe she'd still hit hard w that as a first single. -
for real, it sounds super generic, any of the pop girls could have sung it

COCC - Spotify Picture Disc vs. Neil Krug Picture Disc
rightofjupiter replied to Manson's topic in Lana Thoughts
i have the spotify one and it's so gorgeous– i love the earthy colors. the neil one is pretty but lana looks so photoshopped– much prefer the spotify image. -
the first three, as others have mentioned, are perfection. If you’re an electronic music person from the choirgirl hotel & to Venus and back might be your jam as well. Boys for Pele is imo her masterpiece- there is nothing in the world that sounds like it- baroque, urgent, Wild, beautiful, operatic and unhinged in the most unique ways.

sadly (and unsurprisingly, since the beekeeper was the last tori album i enjoyed) this isn't doing it for me– more of the same acoustic guitar, adult contemporary production that's been boring me to tears these past few eras of hers (there was some of it on the beekeeper too). and the melodies just don't hit for me anymore. still can't wait for the tour that i hope is coming!

Terrence Loves You is one of the saddest (and best imo ) songs. I’d also add is this happiness. The other woman, the original demos for lust for life & BPBP, & hope is a dangerous thing.

i love the way british people say "whilst," v chic tbh. this is a cute interview & as always i wish the best for charli all the time (as I do w most of my favs) bc her music has given me so much good for so long– always root for the girls who raise me! true romance made me a fan (i discovered it in between the period of its relase and sucker) and i will never be made at her dipping in those sounds/inspirations again, esp bc she'll always be innovating on her own sound, even if it's a sonic revisit.

i LOVE freak but HBTB is really one of my least fav songs in her discography

i am guessing her team will use it to promote BB but honestly who knows

Songs & Musicians That Sound Similar to Lana
rightofjupiter replied to Fluorine's topic in Lana Thoughts
Jonathan by Fiona Apple, siren song by bat for lashes, pretty good year by Tori Amos, the art teacher by Rufus wainwright, the bed by st vincent, coffee homeground by Kate bush, the devil by pj Harvey. none of these are “like” NFR exactly but all feature piano, excellent melodies and beautiful vocals, and some have a similarly propulsive cadence as the piano in NFR imo. -
i think i'm gonna get a ticket too cuz there were so many probs at the screening i went to and i missed a chunk of it. i loooove the album but haven't been streaming it as much as i thought i would, partly bc i'm depressed and it's such a dark album (when i'm sad i tend to listen to brighter pop).
