I refuse to associate “Gold Rush” with Matty. Same with “Ivy”.

Damn that little rat was the muse of century.

Ivy being about Matty is insane, I hate Gaylors but damn they were onto something with Ivy 😭😭 There is no way that song is about a man

Well she did outright say it was on the eras tour  also- maylors are being crazy when they say every post-1989 song is about him, but I do think A LOT of folkmore/midnights songs are about him it makes a lot of sense

Legit question why does anyone give a rat’s ass what he has to say? Like what does it even matter? If you like the music you like it. If you don’t you don’t. He is not even remotely part of the equation. And yes I know he rated Tunnel well and I still stand by what I said his opinions are literally pointless and Miss Taylor will get her well deserved streams and that’s how the world spins girlies!!! 🌎🌀🔃🎡

This man has a Taylor hate boner omg this is ridiculous 😭 also I don’t understand why people are reviewing both halves separately. It’s a deluxe more than anything.

After a good bit of time with the album I can confidently say

     side A >>>>> side B

TTPD is a top 3 while TA is bottom/mid tier, but I feel like both sides have their strengths. Side A I think is better melodically (and even then side B has some good moments, like The Prophecy) and side B is a bit better instrumentally while falling a bit flat melodically.

I definitely do understand some of the criticism the album is getting, but I think it’s being a severely over hated just because the Taylor hate train is in FULL steam, and it’s crazy to think this is probably going to end up being one of her lowest rated albums.

the biggest problem I have is there is no real summer/bop anthem. Down bad, Florida, so high school, broken heart are almost there but they all lack that little extra something.

the problem is BOTH Aaron and Jack working alone is STALE and at the very least she needs to get them working together. Jack is good at vocal production and melody while Aaron shines on instrumentals and pulling good lyrics out of Taylor, but jack doesn’t shine instrumentally and Aaron isn’t great at helping Taylor get an ear worm melody

perhaps the most reductive and disrespectful take i've seen about this album.
this album is many things- you could argue that it's "too long" or that it doesn't have "bangers"- while i disagree with these takes, you could definitely argue it.
however- to say that it's a "LANA DEL REY RIPOFF"- it's basically saying, tell me you haven't listened to the album without telling me you haven't listened.
at first glance- yeah, maybe the cover looks a bit lana del rey "esque", some of the titles/album name, ex: "But Daddy I Love Him",  "Guilty As Sin"- but if you ACTUALLY take
the time to listen to it? You'll come to realize it's one of the most "Taylor Swift" albums she's ever made. She's not trying to make country hits like "Fearless", she's not making her
big pop moment like on "1989", she's not wearing the snake costume like on "Reputation". It's clear that she doesn't give a flaming fuck about how this is received- she could've released the best songs off the 31 song tracklist, and got all the acclaim, but no, she said fuck that and released a messy, and extremely bloated 31 song album. The clear purpose of this album is things she wanted to get off her chest, which kind of makes sense why the production could seem uninteresting at times- she wants you to listen to the lyrics.

Here are a few lyrics that imo are quintessential Taylor Swift:

    - "I love you, it's ruining my life" - a thesis statement on a lot of her discography, if this lyric wasn't true she wouldn't have a career

    - "And that's the closest I've gotten to my heart exploding" - it's not a perfect line, one could argue it's corny, but it's so Taylor. The lyrics on this song are so unhinged as well, she wasn't faking anything on this song.

     - "I'm queen of sandcastles he destroys" - Would Lana write this? No. Some of these lyrics I can't explain how it relates to her- but this metaphor is just so Swiftian, very Blank
    Space coded

    - But Daddy I Love Him- the entire song. Sure, some of the lyrics are quite wordy but the theme is just so Taylor, it's literally a modern day "Love Story". Us against the world, this whole town hates us , etc.

    - "You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me"  - She is always saying shit like this- and I love her for it! It's so dramatic, over the top, and a bit untrue, but it's hilarious and I love her for it.

    - "Always drunk on my own tears"  - Well... it's true! And there are 11 albums of proof.

    - "I''ll forget you but I'll never forgive" - That's my grudge holding queen! She doesn't get over things easy, I mean, she's still writing about Kim almost 10 years later! It might be petty, but I enjoy the vindictiveness at times.

I'll stop there but there's literally so much that I could bring up. This album is so autentically "Taylor Swift"', that it may be the reason why a lot of people hate it. Some enjoy it when she's pretending to be someone, but when she's being her unfiltered self- it can be a tough pill to swallow. The only way you could compare this to LDR is how she is just as authentic on her records. I've never listened to a Lana Del Rey record and heard a second of inauthenticity- she makes the music SHE wants to make, and she doesn't give a shit if it sounds boring to anyone besides her. Lana's personality shines through all of her music, and similarly I can feel Taylor's personality shining through this record.

anyway... I just wrote all that.  Literally sanctimoniously performing soliloquies Fantano will never see- but I needed to get it off my chest bc I'm sick of people comparing the two of them.

    finally listen to the album.

Florida!!!, So Long London and Smallest Man are literally one of the best songs she ever made
Honorable mentions: Little Old Me, I Can Fix Him and Clara Bow

This album really surprised me of what Taylor can do, the more i listen to it, the more i realize what a disgrace Midnights was.

definitely going for THE ANTHOLOGY later, i need to spend my time with this first half of the album.

After watching his reviews i STRONGLY disagree with his point that it copies Lana, but i more so agree with his final point that this is an album for Swifties. It being bloated and having to be read into lyric wise is something for the Swift fans to look forward to. It’s not so much trying to make pop smash hits with big varying production. It’s her Blue Banisters in a way.

I will never understand the obsession with that bald tosser. Us dinosaur Lana fans remember the rampant misogyny he was piling on her in the early days. He's also just a shit reviewer. You've watched one video, you've watched them all.

it can’t be. It’s stabilized at so many streams. All the criticism is around “ugh another song about her being the victim” or “she’s a billionaire” or “why is she everywhere” - but she’s barely even doing promo. She’s everywhere bc ppl write about her to get clicks. She’s not forcing anyone to consume anything - she’s basically dropped this album during a hiatus and barely said a word about it.

ooh i still don't have a clear frontrunner, since I've mostly been looping the album front to back over and over LMAO. My top 5 are all between 70-90 steams per song and:
    1. So Long, London
    2. Fortnight
    3. Who's Afraid...
    4. Florida
    5. Fresh Out The Slammer

I have literally listened to nothing else but this album this week. I already have scrobbled it 1,000 times. It's soooo good. I hate all the critics and Twitter warriors fighting about her being "too much" or "too rich" or "too big."

The music is not about being a billionaire or being a beloved popstar, it's raw and real. I don't think I've clicked and related with an album this much since Red and NFR!

Also I NEED the anthology on vinyl bc I think that album is going to be the soundtrack so hot, rainy summer evenings
