when I saw this I got so excited because it's like the first time she's actually shown us that she really is writing new music. Like, obviously she's been saying that she's been working on new stuff for a while but this is the first legitimate proof we have that she's actually working on music. If this is anything like the sound on the next album I would be so happy. This sounds so magical I have a feeling her next album will be her best. She's had time to take a break from her career and just enjoy her life, and it seems her relationships are quite stable now (with her boyfriend, her family, etc.). Plus I think she's taken time to deal with some of her struggles with mental health and she definitely seems a lot more refreshed and open about her life. And I'm so interested to see if her travels to Japan will translate into her art in any way.

1. Lust for Life - Lana Del Rey A diverse yet cohesive record. Interesting to see Lana delve into a different thematic approach to her music. Thoroughly enjoy the inclusion of political commentary and the features worked well also. A little too lengthy to listen to in one sitting, though, and some song titles are clunky and awkward, but these are only minor bothers that do not detract from the brilliance of the record overall. Favorite tracks: Cherry, 13 Beaches, Heroin, Change, Love, Beautiful People Beautiful Problems, Change 2. Melodrama - Lorde Her strongest record to date. Love the interspersion of strings into the songs and the production is excellent overall. Every song flows perfectly from one to the next, creating a great sense of cohesion. Could have been a tad longer, however. Favorite tracks: Liability, Sober, Perfect Places, Homemade Dynamite, Hard Feelings/Loveless 3. Masseduction - St. Vincent First St. Vincent album I've listened to and every song is well-crafted. Her lyricism is thoughtful and intelligent. Quite short overall, though, and the ordering of some tracks is questionable. Favorite tracks: Los Ageless, Masseduction, New York, Savior, Sugarboy, Slow Disco, Happy Birthday, Johnny 4. Utopia - Björk A lush, atmospheric record with the perfect contrast between moments of pure bliss and loss. A great way to follow-up Vulnicura. Some of the vocals could have been re-recorded though, as they sound messy. Favorite tracks: Blissing Me, Loss, Sue Me, Saint, Future Forever, Arisen My Senses 5. Self-titled - Dua Lipa A strong debut album featuring plenty of bops. It's not every day that a singer comes through on their debut. Favorite tracks: Hotter Than Hell, New Rules, Last Dance, Room For 2 6. Number 1 Angel - Charli XCX Charli truly delivered with this PC-pop masterpiece. The features complement her voice and style. Extremely fun and enjoyable record. Too bad it ends so quickly. Favorite tracks: Roll With Me, Drugs, Dreamer, 3AM (Pull Up) 7. Pure Comedy - Father John Misty Although the music itself is quite simple and straightforward, the lyricism on this record is superb and offers such an articulate and in-depth analysis of the current sociopolitical climate, particularly as it pertains to the USA. Favorite tracks: Ballad of the Dying Man, Pure Comedy, Two Wildly Different Perspectives, So I'm Growing Old On Magic Mountain, Total Entertainment Forever 8. CollXtion II - Allie X A great follow-up to the first collection of songs. Some nice bops as well as some emotional pieces. Cover art is too odd for my tastes, though, and I don't understand how it relates to the album. Favorite tracks: Old Habits Die Hard, Simon Says, Lifted, True Love is Violent, That's So Us, Casanova 9. Younger Now - Miley Cyrus Didn't ever think I'd be putting a Miley Cyrus album in any 'top 10' list, ever, but this album is a nice experience. I think Miley has found the perfect balance between her more upbeat pop style and her raw, country origins. 'Rainbowland' is a travesty, though and should never have gotten the green light to go on the record. Favorite tracks: Younger Now, Malibu, Week Without You, Thinkin' 10. Self-titled - Harry Styles Brilliant melodies and production, and Harry's vocals are quite diverse as well. I tend to prefer the more mellow, emotional songs as opposed to the more 'fun' side of the record. Favorite tracks: Sign of the Times, Meet Me in the Hallway, Two Ghosts, Ever Since New York Honorable mentions go to: Poppy.Computer - Poppy Hard (EP) - The Neighbourhood Kesha - Rainbow Non-existent album - Marina and the Diamonds

Awww thank you so much - that means a lot! Glad that my posts are relatable, I just say what I'm thinking with trying to be over top and cause drama like half the people here do haha And I'd like to think the same thing. Despite the fact that there always seems to be some sort of drama or fighting on this forum, the vast majority of the time I see a lot of people who are really educated and socially aware and explain things very clearly which makes me happy. I think Lana has a certain air of sophistication about her (not to sound pretentious) in the sense that she doesn't get involved in petty drama with other celebs and she always tries to be honest and open about different topics that can be difficult for her to talk about, so maybe that is what attracts such great people. (Or maybe we just have such a good moderation team that all the horrible people get banned haha)

Sorry for bumping the thread without any news, but I'm honestly considering stanning Halsey as my new faux neo-alternative queen after all this shitty Melanie Martinez drama

I feel like her label will drop her before even releasing anything, if these allegations prove to be true. I agree that the artist does not necessarily equal their art, but to answer your question, yes I would put her albums in the bin and try my best to stop listening to her music and stop supporting her. But these sorts of hypothetical questions are irrelevant. The likelihood of Lana behind a sexual predator are almost next to nothing so I don't think it's even worth pondering such questions. Yes, Lana has fought her own demons in the past but you have to admit that the recurring theme of being mentally ill in Melanie's work is extreme and at times even I thought it was concerning.

I don't think it's necessarily "wrong" to listen to her music after finding out this sort of information about her personal life, but for me personally, I don't understand how anyone could even listen to her music in the same way again, thinking of what she's done and how many people's she's potentially abused. As for Natalia Kills, what she did, while being a bit inappropriate, wasn't even nearly half as bad as what Melanie has been accused of. Yeah she was a bit bitchy but I don't think you can even compare what she said to what Melanie has been accused of doing. Making an insensitive comment versus literally raping someone (possibly even more) is incomparable.

Wow. A second person coming forward... things are looking even worse for Melanie. And even though that second girl isn't referring to the situation as rape, it does seem to still be sexual harassment/assault. Honestly I am just so disappointed. I loved Melanie's art and she really had something unique going for her. Her songs were cleverly written and full of emotion. Now it just makes me sick to the stomach to think about the real person behind all those beautiful melodies. It's sickening and upsetting, especially seeing as her album was one of my highest played albums of all time. Now if these allegations are true I'm going to have to delete these songs. Btw, people like this are imbeciles... Girlll, you don't know Melanie, all you see is a public persona she puts on. You think she loves you but she doesn't even know who you are. And the whole, "I will support her no matter what she does" is just ridiculous.

Charli XCX just unfollowed her on Twitter. wow I am still in shock this is happening

Update: comments are disabled on the post. She is in some deep shit right now. Can't believe this is happening. https://twitter.com/MelanieLBBH

Taking refuge in here and listening to Utopia right now to cleanse myself from the mess of the Melanie Martinez thread and the whole situation. "Purify toxicity"

Love Havana. Excited for her album!

I am SO upset. I don't even know if what I am going to say about this is going to make sense, because I'm so distraught and confused right now. I cannot believe I ever stanned this woman and what makes me even more angry at myself is that I PAID LITERAL MONEY to see her in concert - I don't care that I've lost money but I am just mad at myself because I feel like I just financially supported a rapist and that's so upsetting to think about. I feel so guilty and ashamed for ever liking this woman, even though I could never have known what kind of a person she really was. At first, I was a little skeptical because obviously as it has been discussed here already, sometimes people do make up stories of rape that turn out to be false. And then I did consider that this girl was just trying to generate publicity and launch her own career.... BUT!... Melanie's response pretty much just confirms that she did sexually assault her friend. "She didn't say no" is NOT an excuse. EVER. You cannot touch somebody without getting 100% confirmation that they consent to it. She might not have said no, but she also didn't say yes, so clearly this seems to be a case of rape. It seems silly but I feel so guilty for supporting Melanie. I genuinely loved her music and her artistry, but now that is all gone. I know I shouldn't make this about me, because my struggle of not feeling like I can enjoy her music or videos anymore is NOTHING in comparison to somebody being sexually assaulted, but nevertheless, I'm upset about this whole situation. I will wait it out a bit more to see where this goes, before I delete her music (and possibly even burn or totally trash my 'CRYBABY' t-shirt), but in the meantime I refuse to listen to her music. I think what is most upsetting about this situation is that these kinds of stories are not so isolated. There is a systemic sociocultural problem of sexual assault, rape and harassment and this is only one of many stories. If it seems like there have been so many cases of sexual assault in the media lately, but just imagine how many more there are that go unpublicized and don't get heard about, because of fear of speaking up. Again, I'm very conflicted as to what to believe right now and I am extremely upset and confused about this whole situation. I just hope that whatever the truth may be, justice is delivered. And if Melanie did actually assault someone, which it is looking like she did, I hope those of us who have supported her in the past will move on. It's so disgusting to see people actually defending rape on Twitter (just in general), and saying that even if Melanie is a rapist it shouldn't matter. That kind of attitude is gross. Ew. Gosh... I'm so disgusted right now. I might even stan Halsey now to replace this bitch

Wow, her visuals/music videos in the Vulnicura + Utopia eras are by far my fave! Stonemilker, Black Lake, Lionsong, The Gate and Utopia... these videos are masterpieces!

Makes me sad this queen only has 3 albums She NEEDS to release new music ASAP.

Just was on Youtube when suddenly an ad for the new Google Pixel 2 came on and it features Dua Lipa! Can't find the full ad anywhere online but I took these screen caps as proof. So exciting seeing her become so famous!

I like Madonna as an artist but honestly her personality as she got older kind of sucks. She seems so bitter and up herself a lot of the time, while Gaga is always so kind and genuine with others. Personally I am a bigger fan of Gaga's music but I think they are both great musicians in their own way. It's just a shame Madonna can be like this sometimes, I'd definitely like her more if she was more friendly and appreciative. As a side note for those who are interested in personality psychology, in the MBTI model, Gaga would be ISFP and Madonna ESTP, which can explain their difference in how friendly/nice they come across as.

https://www.facebook.com/lanadelrey/videos/1801628786546230/ She just played her unreleased song Disco while showing the march for the pop up stores! love when she recognizes her unreleased masterpieces!

The album is fucking phenomenal. She definitely delivered with Utopia. Only song I am not completely fond of is Body Memory, because I feel like it drags on for too long, but hopefully once I become more familiar with the melody I will like it more. Other than that, though, everything is AMAZING! I think my album rating would go something like this now: Vespertine > Vulnicura > Utopia > Medúlla > Homogenic > Debut > Post > Volta > Biophilia

Those Vespertine vibes are everything I feel like these songs will probably make more sense in the context of the album, though.
