Sorry for reviving this thread, but goodness, some of Lana's unreleased lyrics like this song really do seem fucked up!
If she is really referencing a relationship with a priest, oh god, I don't even know what to say.
I don't think the lyric is "priest's son" because 1) Seeing as Lana is a Catholic and it's most likely that's the specific Christian denomination she's referring to here, and priests aren't allowed to marry and it's EXTREMELY rare for priests to have had children, so I highly doubt she's mentioning a priest's son. 2) A lot of lyrics are in reference to the expectation of this guy to be holy, and for some reason I just can't see there being  much of an expectation on a priest's son to be holy, but rather just the priest having an expectation to be holy.
Idk, maybe she's not even singing about a priest here, but either way, the whole idea of this guy is fucked up, and reminds me of Put Me in a Movie a little bit.

Sounds like something Lana would do tbh, write a big "fuck you" song to someone who probably screwed her over & tried to control her in every way, then releasing it on their birthday just to make them feel even worse. This is why I love Lana. She has the best "don't give a fuck" attitude and I really admire it, she's such an independent woman

Had no idea she was 13! That's amazing, she's so talented!

I agree more with the interpretations stating that this song is directed to Lana herself. I highly doubt this song is about Azaelia at all. I feel like Lana is speaking to a past version of herself, back in her wilder days. This would also make sense considering this song comes directly after Freak, where Lana says "looking back, my past, it all seems stranger than a stranger." It's quite possible that perhaps Lana positioned Art Deco after Freak because of this lyric, she is foreshadowing the fact that she is about to look back at her past. Art Deco to me seems like a critique of her own personal life. I don't think that Lana and Azaelia are even that close honestly, especially considering that Lana often considers her relationships to be more than what they really are (there are rumours Lana never even dated Jimmy Gnecco, and she just admired him so much that she wrote a plethora of intimate songs about him) & that Azaelia tweeted quite recently in reply to a fan who was asking whether she is still friends with Lana: "I think we're friends?" (paraphrased). I doubt Lana would write such a personal song about someone she doesn't even know that well.

IF this song is indeed about AB, however, then I feel like a lot of the lyrics are still more related to Lana more than anything. What Lana often does is sing songs seemingly about other people, for example, Carmen, Lolita, The Other Woman, among many others, that appear to be about someone other than Lana, but are more recalls of her own life. From a psychological viewpoint, this is a defence mechanism of the ego called projection. She projects her own undesirable stories and personality traits onto other people or characters. In this case, it could be quite likely that she wrote this song about Azaelia, but is applying traits to her that she really struggles to accept about herself. For example, the lyric "they all say hello, you try to ignore them", could be about how Lana detaches herself from others to maintain a satisfactory level of privacy and to profess a certain level of elusiveness. But because Lana doesn't really want to admit that this is a part of her own personality, she projects it onto someone else, in this case, AB (if the song is about her). Regardless of who this person/character is, Lana pretends to direct the song to someone other than herself. "YOU'RE so art. YOU'RE looking to score" etc. It's quite possible she's really talking to herself about her own past & personality.

Just while we're at it, I have to point out how beautifully written West Coast is. No matter how it's produced or sung, the melodies are still perfect.

This song is absolutely amazing. I can definitely see how it came from the UV time period, as it has that same rawness and melancholic, dark emotion to it, a perfect mix of tragedy and beauty.

I think that she's just happy to finally doing things her own way.
During the UV era, she had to fight to release the music, the videos and so on.
But with Honeymoon, I feel like her label just decided to let her do her thing. She was finally allowed to release the footage from the original UV video, she made an album with one of her best friends, it was a really personal record, and there wasn't as much commercial pressure since no one was expecting another Born to Die (well, most people anyway ) since people knew that since UV she had different things planned.
And after all, it was still a really successful campaign and beautiful album. It didn't sell as much as Born to Die, that's for sure, but I don't think that really bothers Lana. She just wants to be able to make a living doing something she loves and making her life into a work of art, and she's doing just that. Plus, the critics loved it and she proved that she's not some fake plastic pop princess, she's a real artist and she is a brilliant one at that.
I think her label has just accepted that Lana isn't some huge pop diva, she's unique and does her own thing, and people still love it and still support her and buy her work. I'm pretty sure that apart from Lady Gaga, she generally outsells all of the other artists signed to her label, and that's considering they do a shit load of promo, and Lana does... well, not that much

Anyway, it makes so happy to see Lana happy. I also hope this will translate into the next album.

I agree. I think she personified the media as a lover. Obviously you can't really write a lead single saying "fuck you, articles, reviews, critics, paparrazi, etc. I hate you!" because no one would really relate to it. So she personifies the media as a lover because that way lots of people can relate to the song and it can be lead single material for the GP to hear. She tries to make it sound like the song is about a boy, but really it's about the media, who is her lover in a way, because there are positives about the media, and obviously, without it, she wouldn't be able to be doing what she is doing today, but at the same time, the media is an enemy to her, because of all the negativity/criticism it's brought into her life, plus her invasion of privacy. She kind of has a love-hate relationship with the media, and that's why in the video she's seen approaching the helicopter at the window and posing (because a part of her loves the attention and the fame) but by the end, she's fed up of all the side-effects of being involved in the media (and therefore she shoots the helicopter down).

Anyway, I think I'm rambling on a bit and my words are a bit jumbled, but hopefully you get the gist of what I'm trying to say.

I don't mean to sound like Lana a la her Terrence Loves You and Cruel World "jazzy" comments, but this song is low-key giving me a jazz vibe, like with the way her voice shifts between notes... idk

    Baby, you understand me now
If sometimes you see that I'm mad
Don't you know that no one alive can always be an angel?
When everything goes wrong you see some bad

Well, I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

You know sometimes, baby, I'm so carefree
With a joy that's hard to hide
And then sometimes again it seems that all I have is worry
And then you're bound to see my other side

But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

    If I seem edgy
    I want you to know
I never meant to take it out on, on you
    Life has it's problems
And I get more than my share
But that's one thing I never mean to do
    'Cause I love you

    Oh baby
    I'm just human
Don't you know I have faults like anyone?
Sometimes I find myself alone regretting
    Some little foolish thing
Some simple thing that I've done

Cause I'm just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood

    I try so hard
    Don't let me be misunderstood
    I try so hard
    Don't let me be misunderstood

Your posts are always so intriguing. Thank you for sharing. I absolutely love reading them!

It is certainly an odd occurrence to have Lana mention all these specific details connected to Peg Entwistle's story but for her to not be aware of their symbolic significance. So many of the lyrics make sense in light of the Entwistle story.

"Climb up the H of the Hollywood sign, yeah
In these stolen moments, the world is mine (do it, do it)"

The symbolism of the H is probably the most identifiable symbol, obviously having jumped from it and falling to her death, but the "do it, do it" part especially haunts me, as I interpret it as Entwistle's inner consciousness telling her to commit suicide.

"We're the masters of our own fate
We're the captains of our own souls"

This part also seems relevant to the story, perhaps acting as a justification of leaving behind the world, since we are all in control of our own fate and our own souls under this philosophy.

"They say only the good die young
    That just ain't right"

Entwistle died at a very young age - 24 to be exact.

"Then, we dance on the H of the Hollywood sign, yeah
'Til we run out of breath, gotta dance 'til we die"

That last part has an uncanny resemblance!

It really is unusual that Lana has written this song, unaware of its other meanings. I like the theory that this is a case of Jungian synchronicity

This section reminds me of a lyric in Playing Dangerous: "If you can't stand the heat, then stay out of the fire, you might get what you desire, boy. Love is strange, sometimes it makes you crazy, it can burn or break you down" This line actually correlates with what you're saying quite well. I love how literally every Lana song reminds me of others in some way or another.

THIS. And there was also an interview Lana did where she said something about Francesco not letting her go to parties and making her stay home or something, and people reckon he is very controlling over Lana, and I think it's partly true judging by her comments about him in an interview she did.

Hey everyone, so as you probably know, there has been a user on Instagram named @china.palace that has been pretending to be a Lana insider. Well, good news... a user by the name of @honeydelgrant finally found the person who owns the account. His name is @ Jorge.Marques

He has denied that he is the user, but it's blatantly obvious he is the same person! @honeydelgrant easily proved it...

He posted a video to his personal Instagram scrolling through his YouTube history, which included every video he has ever posted on his account!! That video is now deleted but @honeydelgrant recorded it.

He also created a vk.com/chinapalace page linked to his Instagram, and his details show that he is from PORTUGAL... so there is no way he is a Lana insider!

He even writes the exact same as China does...

He also keeps denying that he is China but he has never been able to justify why he is not China. In fact, if he wasn't China he wouldn't even know what is going on, but instead, in some posts he knows exactly what is going on, while in others he pretends he is confused. Someone who legitimately wasn't China would NOT respond in the way he does. Everything about his responses seems suspicious.

Here are just some of the ways he replied, which in my opinion, indicate he is definitely China...

Also, in this one, he has hinted that there are two others who run the account as well. Neither I nor @honeydelgrant said anything about people named "Nathan" or "Gabriel", yet he just spat out their names, which shows he knows something we don't, so he must be China!

Now I know you might be annoyed I made this thread, because most of us have known China was a fraud since the start, but now that we have hard proof that the account is run by a deceitful fan, we can expose the facts and stop people from falling from the trap of believing the account is run by Lana or a friend. The sad reality is that if you go to any of China's posts, there are still soooo many people asking for songs, for info, and so on. And china still has thousands of followers that believe him.

Please help me expose China for the fraud he is. Share the news! This must end!

Honestly I don't really care if she is a full-time Muslim now. It's kind of odd to think about a girl like Lindsay Lohan turning to a religion like Islam which has strict adherence to non-alcoholism and modesty in clothing, which seem quite opposed to the way she has been in the past, but hey, if Islam brings her peace after all these years of trouble then I'm happy for her. It's unusual for someone like her but at the end of the day, people change and I hope that she can find some peace with her newfound religious beliefs. I think it's what she really needs.

Honestly, it's funny how I went from absolutely loathing the lyrics to loving them almost completely (the chorus still ain't that great, but hey, that's Lana sometimes). I wrote a post a while back on another thread and I saved it on my computer somewhere and just found it again and realised I never posted it here, so in case anyone wants to read it, here's why I've come to love the Honeymoon lyrics after hearing it with the music so much…

So, you know how in a few interviews Lana has said that in some of her songs (like West Coast and Video Games, for example) a portion of the song is based on reality while the other is focused around her inner fantasies... well, I think Honeymoon is another one of these songs.

The verses seem to be about reality - her experiences with her lover have a slower instrumentation which could symbolise that reality isn't as grand or exciting as her fantasies. The instrumental intensifies into the chorus, where she sings about a 'honeymoon' with her lover, most likely what she envisions within her head, hence the more complex instrumentation. It's also quite fitting the 'dark blue' lines are right before the second verse kicks in, as it shows Lana sliding back into the reality that is life with her neglectful lover, as the lyric has a bit of a dark undertone.

The bridge is almost an amalgamation of reality and fantasy - describing realistic qualities of her lover through deep imagery. Lana then slips back into the chorus for the last time, which now has an even dreamier sound, then she starts singing the 'dreaming away your life' lines which indicates that she is finally acknowledging that she is torn between reality and the world inside her head. The scatting towards the end is a symbol of Lana getting lost within her dreams. She attempts to soften the problems she encounters with her lover by escaping to a world inside her mind, where they are both happy and untroubled, however, deep inside of herself she is aware that dreams do not last forever - she is 'dreaming AWAY' her life. Although she knows that her mindset is detrimental, she can't help but turn back to it every time she remembers that things are not as smooth with her boyfriend as she wishes and dreams about.

TL;DR - Honeymoon isn't just a song about being hopelessly in love with a bad boy, it's much more than that - it's Lana explaining how she has created a world within her head she can escape to when no other coping mechanism is enabling her to get by, and the instrumentation combined with the lyrics clearly show this.

Anyway, that's just my theory... Please expand if you have anything to add

Interesting thread, I love quirky ones like these! I remember last year I was on a holiday and I had BTD on loop as I was walking down the street with my family, and Diet Mountain Dew came on, and I saw someone wearing heart-shaped glasses appear at the exact moment that Lana sang "baby, put on heart-shaped sunglasses, 'cause we gonna take a ride" and then towards the end of the song I saw someone with a bottle of the soft drink mountain dew. It was kinda creepy but cool lol
