DeadpanJane liked a post in a topic by fl0ridakil0s in Lana taught me that...
Hello! a long time I wanted to start this topic to know how many more people have learned so many things with Lana like me.
Searching for the meaning of their songs, I first met a lot of magnificent books and movies, like Scarface, Summer of Sam, Gods and Monsters. Also been interested in the biography of Marylin and Elvis, just like Bonnie and Clyde's. I had never heard about Jim Morrison and James Dean, and after listening to her songs they began to appear in several other cases and bc of her I already knew them.
I didnt knew what a groupie was, or Parliament, Chateau Marmont, Coney Island, well as much of the American presidents, and the expression "match made in heaven".
Anyway, I'd like to know how many of you non-americans learned things about American culture because of Lana, and the americans who met books and movies bc of her.
Thank you! ♥

They're from Upstate NY, I would hope that they'd have a boat.

DeadpanJane liked a post in a topic by evilentity in The M tattoo poll
Here's the January 2012 BBC article saying "Her left hand is tattooed with a capital letter 'M' for her grandmother, Madeleine [sic]".
But in a status update today, @ flagged this 2011 i-D Magazine interview where she said the 'M' stood for "Magic, 'cos I need it [laughs]".
I've always been skeptical of the grandmother explanation from day one. It always struck me as the kind of post hoc explanation someone might concoct for a tattoo they regret or for which they're embarrassed about the real original inspiration. That "Gramma" may be about her other grandmother and she once claimed it stood for "Magic" do nothing to lessen my skepticism that we're getting the real story here.
Like the OP, my pet theory had long been that it stood for Mike Mizrahi. Until I saw this:
This was briefly the avatar for the YouTube account that originally posted "Let My Hair Down". (Receipts here and here. Note: Alex DeLarge is not my real name.) This account apparently belongs to Adam Tagliamonte, a.k.a "Tags", from Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena. This suggests the stylized 'M' symbol may predate her relationship with Mizrahi. Unfortunately, Tags was not that helpful when I asked him some questions, including about the symbol's significance. Supposedly, those recording sessions that leaked back in January came from Tags. If whoever got those from him hasn't burned their bridges with him in the course of them leaking it'd be cool if they could try to ask him about this. Until then the magic 'M' remains a mystery...

Praise This is the thread I've always wanted. I really can't help out because I know nothing about fashion but I'm totally supportive in spirit.

Ok,so I'm always so curious as to where Lana gets her clothes (and whether or not I can afford them, ) and so I figured I would start this thread if anyone has any information on her recent clothes. There's blogs that tell you where to purchase the clothes but they're all from 2011. I figured that there had to be at least someone who's good at this kind of stuff and help the rest of us out. Especially any information on the tour outfits would be AMAZING. Thanks

I think "National Anthem" is generic, annoying piece of pop-ish song, and the first, faster version is much more fresh and positively mischievous; I don't like the hymnic tone of the BTD version and its simplificated, flat chorus. It is, actually, the only song of hers that I'm not fond of.
Also, "Flipside" is overly underestimated: it has grungy, chamber charm and haunting, echoing intro and end with provoking hurting question, very deep and intimate. I prefer that ninety, lo-fi, rough and raw sound over psychedelic grandeur of "Cruel World", more close to the pieces like "Get Drunk", but with added guitar growling, like its elaborated, inflamed extension.
Plus, "Off To The Races" is the best gem on BTD, most complex, charged with multiple emotional layers and lyrically excellent, with her versatile voice covering all isohypses and isobars of emotional experience.
Paradise "Yayo" is much weaker, cause it lacks the crucial part of the bridge, echoing "...dark night..." in the distance (this is for me the climax part), and her voice is much more insecure and unnecessary shivering and roaming, tracing invisible ornamental additions and ruining strong, effortlessly soft flowing spine of the melody of the original. The first version kicks ass.

bc its about the guy telling her "you're pretty when you cry". PWIC is kinda lame as a title imo, PWYC is darker cause it suggests that he is manipulating her + emotionally abusing her. thats not a good thing, but it hold more significance than PWIC

Sad Girl is terrible when written down but it works in the atmosphere of the song so w/e
Big Eyes is truly one of her lowest points with all the a/a/a/a rhyme schemes and the whole "I saw you got hard in summer/Your face was somber/Your shirt was cotton/You had no comfort" stuff. I Can Fly is no better with all the summer references too.

Am I the only one who thinks My pussy tastes like Pepsi-Cola is gold? To quote one of the Paradise reviews: One of the rare songs that talks about sex without making it sound vulgar.

I enjoy their relationship because it always looks like he's caressing her face and fawning over her having weird braids or shoveling food into her mouth and she's just like meh
