She was born at 9 am, she stated this in an interview (radio, I think.) She identifies as a gemini...
  2. labionda liked a post in a topic by Goddess in Lana Songs that describe Personality Types
So I know there's a thread that people name their personality types on, but what song from each album coordinate with that personality type? I don't know if I'm explaining this right, but the idea came to me when I saw this post on Tumblr:

Aries: Fucked My Way Up To The Top
    Taurus: Pretty When You Cry
    Gemini: The Other Woman
    Cancer: Old Money
    Leo: Brooklyn Baby
    Virgo: Shades of Cool
    Libra: Black Beauty
    Scorpio: Guns and Roses
    Sagittarius: Cruel World
    Capricorn: Money Power Glory
    Aquarius: West Coast
    Pisces: Ultraviolence

Personally, I think personality types- both MBTI and the Enneagram describe people better than astrology signs, so I'm kinda interested in doing this with types for every Lana album. AKA, BTD, and Ultra with reasons for each pairing.

Is this idea stupid? Or does anyone think they'd be good at it/ are you guys interested? Let me know!
  3. labionda liked a post in a topic by slang in Speculations on Lana's relationship with her mother
I don't know, I don't see anything abnormal about her relationship with either parent. With respect to her (clearly- more-introverted-than-dad) mom. These two interviews have some data.

    http://www.electronicbeats.net/en/features/interviews/lana-del-rey-interview/
has LDR discussing "Church sex scandals" with her mom.

    http://lanadelreyonline.com/lana-del-rey-interviewed-by-der-spiegel/
has discussion about LDR promising her mother always to be home at Christmas. Also, generally speaking, when LDR talks about discipline issues as a kid, it's always in the context of her "parents".

BTW "My momma" never struck me as being autobiographical. LDR is often loose or revisionist when she talks about herself, even if she said once that her songs were 100% autobiographical on other occasions she's bound to say otherwise. This should work for her as many times as it works against her.

BTW-2: Yeah a "Chuck candid" with Chuck in the photo? Hmmh, wouldn't it be more newsworthy for a paparazzi to just note and photograph the fact that Chuck was staging a photo. Rob has also tweeted (at least in my memory and I'm paraphrasing), if you pick your nose in Hollywood expect it to show up on the internet.

Hey, she's the one who says her lyrics are '100% autobiographical'. And we're just taking what she says at face value because tbqh it's way more fun than the alternative.

Just tried to devise a theory about her real father being dead (that's the way my father made his life an art) or maybe Patricia being an evil stepmom but all three little Grant children look like a perfect mix of them both so

Her mom prob just grounded her loads

    OMG, that's serious?
    I really didn't know that.
  7. labionda liked a post in a topic by trayertrash in Woolridge? Last name?
Her real name is Elizabeth May Woolridge, she was forced to live with Robert Grant after her real daddy, K (Kenneth Woolridge) was sent to jail for his incestious relationship with Elizabeth. Robert was always referred by her family as her 'uncle' but there is no blood relationship. He was infact Kenneth's first in command in their sex slave chain. Kenneth entrusted Robert to keep his daughters safe and out of the business. Robert didn't want her to linger over her love of her daddy anymore, her wanted Elizabeth as his own, so he and Patricia decided to tell her that Kenneth was a murderous drug dealer & was sent to death row. Robert, who is a polygamist, wanted Elizabeth and Caroline to be apart of his family and invited them to marry him and his wife Patricia, which they did. Of course, their marriage is not illegal, but to symbolize their commitment to the marriage, they changed their last names to Grant.

I love her so much, and I concluded that she probably went through a bunch of crap in her life, rich or not, and this is what she is willing to share with us. Im thankful for all of those who gave me some deep explanations. They were all amazing.
  9. labionda liked a post in a topic by Viva in Do you think Lana is a complete fake?
I said this 100 times: Lana is a storyteller first and a writter second. I think she met very interesting people among her life. I would be surprise if she lived more than 1 month in a trailer park and if she never lived in one wouldn't be a surprise at all. I think she creates several characters some probably based in people she met in her life others from her own imagination. I don't think she ever had a drug problem related to cocaine, meth and the hardcore ones. Maybe she started abusing alcohol at young age....maybe not.

I think she lies sometimes, sometimes she creates a character. In my opinion the difference between Lana and most is the fact she created that vision. the lie or character is in part who she wanted to be and how she sees certain types of girls. The difference between her and most is the fact she is a character of her own creation and she is in control of that character because he is a part of her. The character fits her since is her.

I think Lana is very smart, very political and has a opinion about society and uses the integration between sound (music) and image (videos) to give life to her visions/stories. I think National Anthem is a genious criticism towards US and is a very interesting political and social video. I think Lana is very ironic as well.

She is a liar but her lies are carefully chosen and even in that she is in control

There are 2 types of people who will always have to prove themselves more: the ones born in extreme poverty and the ones born with a golden spoon. The poor girl surviver story is in a way a ice breaker

IMO in the pop scene I would say Miley is going for the same line character wise but in a completely different trajetory the thing is that just like Lana she is in control.

Not sure if these are from the trailer park, but it looks like they are from when she was using drugs.

I have often wondered that too.. Tanks for the pics TPD..
It's true that meth is a pretty hard drug, almost end of the road, I'd say second to heroin, cracks not nearly as bad, I know she got clean but I don't see how rehab could fit into her timeline, you can see the meth in her face.. Especially the last pic, it scares me to think about her in the grip of an addiction, it's hard work to get clean, poor girl

Never new about Jamie's heroin addiction, I think this links to her being described as crazy aswell... The drugs would be the main contributor to that,

My momma wouldn’t say you were a nice guy
But you’re under 40 and you have a job
My momma wouldn’t say you was a good boy
But you’re making money and you’re working hard

So I’m gonna take you [on]
    I don’t feel like it’s wrong
Me and my momma, we don’t get along

My momma she would say your hair was too long
But your hair exactly is what I like the best
And my momma [she would say you was a hoodlum]
But I [done known a hoodlum] and you don’t pass the test

    I’m gonna take you [on]
    I don’t feel like it’s wrong
Me and my momma, we don’t get along

Oh baby, [you're] standing so close, I can’t back down
You’re smiling and I know I’m over and done now
    I am done now

My momma would say that it was wrong to see you
I [lied] just to meet you, I [lied] to get in
My momma [she would say that I decieved you]
But that’s the only way I knew how to begin

So maybe you got your own problems, who doesn't?
    I’m crazy, you’re addicted, we’re all of a sudden

My momma she would love you like I love you
If she ever met you, if she ever knew
My momma sure would fall right on top of you
If she’d ever saw you, she’d be smitten too

I’ll never take you home, I want you all for my own
Don’t let my momma hear your pretty song

    I’m gonna take you [on]
    I don’t feel like it’s wrong
Me and my momma, we don’t get along

hmmm... she rarely/never mentions her mom in a postive light in her lyrics the way she does her dad. Any thoughts?
  14. labionda liked a post in a topic by Whoopiedoo in Speculations on Lana's relationship with her mother
Not much is really known about Lana's childhood, right? Raise Me Up is the only song that actually speaks about her relationship with her mother, or how it was in the past, didn't seem like it was a good one.
  15. labionda liked a post in a topic by James19709 in Contradictory Lana
I think with "Trust no one", she means not to let anyone get too close to you rather than little things. She's a secret thrill-seeker, she said it herself. If you think of it like that then she'd also be contradicting herself with "I belonged to no one, I belonged to everyone", it just depends how to see it and if you resonate with it yourself.
  16. labionda liked a post in a topic by evilentity in Lizzy in old Lake Placid area newspapers
Birth certificates of living persons are usually not publicly available... but some voter records and Copyright Office filings are. I think you'd be surprised how often publications simply reprint what artists say about themselves without fact-checking and how reluctant they are to correct the record. At least I was. I have a response from a BBC News planning editor that essentially admits that's what they do.

To believe Lana was born in 1986, one would have to believe that she looked unusually old at 18 months, that she began school a year early or skipped a grade, that she (intentionally or not) committed voter fraud in the state of NY, that her listing 1985 as her DOB on her Copyright Office filings and personal Facebook account were just accidents, that various public record searches are wrong as well as every article stating her age before her rise to fame, including a local paper and an article clearly stating that June 21, 2008 was "Lizzy's 23rd birthday" written by a Grant family friend who had done entire cover stories on two men present for the occasion, one of which was her father. One would also have to read nothing into a few early post-recognition articles implying she was yet another year younger (i.e. born in 1987) or her Complex magazine interviewer asking her about her age twice.

Or you can just believe that she and her current management team have been lying about her age.

I believe there's a feedback loop problem here: Several early articles parroted fictitious information given by Lana or her management, Wikipedia based it's DOB on them, tons of later articles repeated the information from Wikipedia, and now Wikipedia won't change their DOB because of the glut of erroneous sources out there. And on and on it goes.

I found a bunch of old Lake Placid News (LPN), Adirondack Daily Express (ADE), Plattsburgh Press-Rebulican (PPR) articles archived as black and white PDF scans that mention Lizzy, some with photos of her:

Here's a rundown of the rest of the references:

    Involvement in Sports
Skiing. "Lately, the students of St. Agnes School have accomplished a lot out of school. Many SAS students particpated recently in some exciting ski races: NYSEF World Cup race for JV (ages 7-10). Placings are as follows... "The New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) held its annual family race and picnic for participants in the.series last Saturday, at which time the final standings were released... Elizabeth Grant (259)... Completed the top 10." March 23, 1996 ADE
Skating. "The following scholarships have been awarded by the Skating Club of Lake Placid to the skaters named below... $50 scholarships for ice or lessons... Elizabeth Grant." March 27, 1997 ADE Softball. She played center fielder for her middle school team. "Elizabeth grant [sic] OF-C". April 10, 1998 LPN Involvement in Other Extra-curricular Activities
Choir. "The Lake Placid High School (LPHS) concert started off with the chorus singing 'Psallite'. They song many traditional Christmas Carols [sic]. The chorus personnel are... Elizabeth Grant". March 7, 2000 LPN "After the Women's Ensemble it was the high school chorus' time to shine... Medley from 'Les Miserables' had many soloists, such as... Elizabeth Grant". June 23, 2000 LPN
What song do you think she sang?
Performed in a variety show (as well as Chuck and Charlie). June 23, 2000 LPN Secretary of the high school Key Club. "On Tuesday May 9, the Key Club members welcomed new leadership... Congratulations also go to the new secretary. Elizabeth Grant". June 23, 2000 LPN Staff of the Blue Times Bomber, the school newspaper which appears to have been an insert in the Lake Placid News. January 28, 2000  March 17, 2000 LPN  June 23, 2000 LPN Confirmation. "On Sunday afternoon. May 21, at 4:30 p.m.. Bishop Gerald Barbarito, bishop of Ogdensburg, came to Lake Placid and confirmed more than 50 people from area Roman Catholic churches, including St Agnes... It was a beautiful and solemn ceremony, with the church's altars and pillars decked in red, the bishop in his red chasuble (robe), wearing his miter on his head and holding his staff in hand. On the altar, dozens of red roses arranged in large vases added to the festive atmosphere. The 17 Lake Placid young people, all dressed in white robes, who received the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the sacrament of confirmation included... Elizabeth Grant". May 26, 2000 LPN Honor Roll

There are also many articles that list her on the honor roll:
Grade 7, High Honors. January 9, 1998 LPN  February 13, 1998 LPN  March 27, 1998 LPN  March 27, 1998 ADE  March 30, 1998 PPR  May 29, 1998 ADE  June 9, 1998 ADE  June 19, 1998 LPN  July 31, 1998 PPR Grade 8, Honors. March 5, 1999 LPN  March 8, 1999 ADE  March 12, 1999 LPN  May 7, 1999 LPN Grade 8, High Honors. June 18, 1999 LPN  July 20, 1999  July 23, 1999 LPN Grade 9, Honors. December 24, 1999 LPN  December 31, 1999 LPN  January 28, 2000 LPN This establishes pretty well that she started 9th grade in the fall of 1999. Unless you skip a grade, kids are 14 or 15 when they begin 9th grade (or at least turn 14 shortly after it begins). If Lizzy was really born in 1986 as she claims, she would have just turned 13 the summer before.

    Family Members

There's also a lot of articles mentioning other members of her family. I didn't spend a ton of time looking at those, but they appear to be mostly about her parents' efforts to organize opposition to a development project (Lake Placid does really remind me of Twin Peaks sometimes) for classic NIMBY reasons, her dad's real estate listings, and Chuck and Charlie's sports exploits (including a huge fish she caught).

However, this article describes in greater detail her dad's furniture company mentioned in that Domain Name Journal profile on him and this article gives more background on her family's ownership of "God Bless America" singer Kate Smith's home-- which Lizzy mentioned in this article and was the inspiration for the original title of AKA-- and their attempts to sell it at a large profit rather than an affordable price for the Kate Smith/God Bless America Foundation who wanted to turn it into a museum.

Wow, I love what you wrote! Thank you!
I 100% agree with you! That idea that she wants a "relationship with divinity" is so cool! And the way she talks about Jesus as her "bestest friend" and in the same lines as "Marilyn, Coney Island Beaches, Sparklers and Streamers", just solidifies that! That just proves she's not your typical Catholic, she is much more colorful, freer in her expressions of a belief.

The "I am my only God" from Disco is what made me love Lana. I remember listening to that song over and over again, it captivated me so much, the whole song is just fantastic imo! I think that this song and this line goes with her "I'd rather know what God knows" line in Pawn Shop Blues (another one of my favorites). I mean these songs obviously don't sound like she is very religious at all, you could even say that she's disregarding religion or God here, but I feel like that is just 100% Lana. She does believe in a God in the "outside world", a God that "directs" her or lets things happen. However, she must also believe in a "God within one self", like loving onself just as much as anything and anyone else.
"I am my only God" means to me that she wants to be free, unjudged and doing whatever she wants. Like she says in Disco "I do what I like I just don't care". At first I considered this to be rather blasphemous as I haven't heard a religious person "comparing" themself to God (isn't that even forbidden?), but it's not at all. As with all the Catholic / religious references in her songs, it's just the way she expresses herself and I personally love that because I can identify with that as well even though I am an atheist.
As well as the "I'd rather know what God knows". I love that line. It's SOOO Lana.

I don't know if a thread like this has been opened before but I am really interested in Lana's outlook on love. Judging from her lyrics, it seems like she has found "the one", a person that you could potentially describe as her soulmate but it somehow didn't work out. I remember this one interview very vividly where she claimed to "always sing about the same goddamn person so she'll love him forever". I am wondering how she deals with this feeling of having lost her true love and I am interested in finding more of these kind of excerpts . Maybe we could collect them here?
  22. labionda liked a post in a topic by LoreleiLee in Do you think Lana still believes in God?
I believe this is the result of her rebelious years, when she was younger, passionate, in her formative stage, thinking in black and white terms, and had high ideals, and then those ideals crashed in disillusionment (like it happens to most of us; some become cynics afterwards, and some go through the series of stormy self-doubts, doubts in existence of higher power and review of everything they believed before and end up like even more devoted spiritual persons - I think Lana took the second path).

But I am very fond of that nihilistic, individualistic and nietzschean "I am my only god": it is sometimes necessary to radically negate the value or existence of something that is crucially important to us: that is actually our faith put to test through the series of misfortunate events - like the ego crush that needs to occur before the new integrated person with true self is reborn, as a butterfly.

Later, she contradicts herself in "Gods & Monsters" singing "God's dead, I said, baby, it's alright with me" and "Me and God, we don't get along", where she acknowledges his (or maybe her?) existance, although reluctantly, yet she hisses in cold fury about their discord, and, at the same time, kills him. But her "God is dead" is insincere, wounded, defiant and bitter. You could sense that deeply inside she still cares, maybe even desperately, despite God's perceived betrayal, so she goes to the other extreme to defend herself from further hurts. She dives into darkness and abandon of decadent life so that her own darkness could not be painfully visible.

Maybe her dreams before were huge and sparkling, and life and bitter experience made them broken, so she ascribed that to God's viciousness or negligence, but now, as she matured and realized things happened as they should, she returned to his embrace. So yes, she is a believer, in God and in Love as an ultimate light of life and its greatest, most sublime force.
