My Bedroom is a Sacred Place Now - There Are Children at the Foot of My Bed

Recommended Posts

Last year, when I wrote you my last letter,

The beginning of my future poetry

I acknowledged who you really were for the first time.

I didn’t call you by any other name,

I let you know that I knew the true nature of your heart.

That it was evil,

and that it convinced me that darkness was real,

That the devil is a real devil,

and that monsters don’t always know that they’re monsters.

But projection is an amazing thing.

After you left and burnt the house down,

You tried to convince me it was I who was holding the matches.

You told me I didn’t know who I was,

But I do.

I love rose gardens.

I plant violets everytime someone leaves me.

I love the great sequoias of Yosemite

And if you asked my sister to describe the first thing she thinks of when she thinks of me,

She would say 'Camp fire smoke.'

I’m gentle.

I’m funny when I’m drunk,

But I haven’t been drunk for 14 years.

I go on trips with my friends to the beach who don’t know that I’m crazy.

I can do that.

I can do anything,

Even leave you.

Because my bedroom is a sacred place now that there are children at the end of my bed,

Telling me stories about the friends that they pretend to hate, that they will make up with later.

And there are fresh cut flowers that I grew myself in vases from the yard on nightstands, hand-carved by old pals from Big Sir.

And the longer I stay here,

The more I am sure

That the more I step into becoming a poet,

The less I will fall into being with you.

The more I step into my poetry,

The less I will fall into being with you.

The more I step into my poetry,

The less I will fall into bed with you.

Thank you to @ takeitdoen for the transcription, for it has been released in Australia

And if you asked my* sister, no?

Anyway, love this! My heart is melting. Thank you so much to everyone putting these together.

My favourite part of probably the entire project. When you're just different from most and you know it, but it's not so simple so you carry on with life like everything is fine and nobody would know any better. A work of art  :flutter:

This bit I think is the most powerful stanza from the whole collection. God, it just hit me so hard because, felt that, sis. I always get chills when I read/listen to this poem and often tear up. She really has a way with words and making people feel things x

Yes exactly! The things she says, accompanied by the soft instrumentals are simply wonderful. I've always liked Violet as a project, especially that several fragments of it are so touching and relatable. Her art always speaks to me :angie:

i think this is her convincing moment of "i am a real poet" right here, this. i mean, her lyricism has never been bad but this is poetry realness, poetry greatness. i love it so fucking much. i love how she calls him out for gaslighting her and how she tells that she knows who she is even though before, she didn't trust herself in sportcruiser, which i think makes much more sense for her to say now that she does know herself and that she simply doesn't trust herself.

goddamn i love this woman

if i fuck this model and she just bleached her asshole and i get bleach on my t-shirt, imma feel like an asshole
