Favourite Lana Lyrics

I find "Sad Girl" to be one of Lana's masterpiece, tbh.

"He's got the fire and he walks with fame

He's got the fire and he talks with fame
His Bonnie on the side, Bonnie on the side
Makes me so sad, girl
His money on the side, money on the side
Makes me so sad, girl"

know the girl likes some Lynch ("Blue Velvet" and such) -- and I can't help but think "fire and he walks" is a reference to Twin Peaks, and the trumpets at the end of the second verse are the same ones that are used in Lynch's Mulholland Drive from 2001. Laura Palmer is a total Lana character, that's for sure.

But the reason this song is fantastic is because it sounds like a lounge song straight from hell - and the euphoria of these words over the mandarins and all the reverb for the bridge is GOAT level shit. I love the self-awareness to her being a "sad girl", but the way she's pushing the narrative that it's all sincere. The entire album seems to be about her transition into fame - that bridge from New York to California (Mulholland Drive is about going to California for fame, after all) - and it works so well, especially as the centerpiece of Ultraviolence. I'd argue the album is very much a horror one, and I may be the only who thinks it, but I think the Jim Jones/Manson cult aesthetic she was going for with the "Ultraviolence" (but it's "Freak"now) makes this song stand out even more. It's like she connecting the fame to actually becoming a cult leader. But here, it's her basking away in what fame entails for her, and whether she's going to find happiness in it finally.

And then Lust for Life showed us she might not have found "happiness", but she's definitely figured life out, in some capacity - to some extent - for herself. By being a cult leader, but also still being that cult follower ("Coachella"/Father John Misty, as an example, with the "Freak" video).

Also gotta love the Bonnie and Clyde/bonnie flower interchanging there. Whichever she meant, works. I think she was aware of the double (she does it often), as "on the side" rhymes with and helps us recall the movie's title.

You, you light my red fire babe
Hot white, and blue.
And I, I think that you,
I think you’re so cool babe
Loving everything you do.

You say we’re gonna run away
Put on your sundress, summer day
Flying around on the highway.

Spin me ’round, kiss me in your Chevrolet.
I love you more with each and everyday.
Top down, gonna make a getaway, top down.
Spin me ’round, kiss me in your Chevrolet.
You found me when I had lost my way.
Foot down, we’re going all the way, touchdown.
Gonna make a getaway, top down.

You, know what I want.
Take me to the K-Mart, pick me up pink lip-gloss.
How, you get so hot
You’re making me crazy
Hoping you’ll never stop.

You say that we were meant to be.
We’ll be together finally.
Flying around and I’m finally free, oh.

Spin me ’round, kiss me in your Chevrolet.
I love you more with each and everyday.
Top down, finally gonna get away, top down.
Spin me ’round, kiss me in your Chevrolet.
You found me when I had lost my way.
Foot down, we’re going all the way, touchdown.

We’re on our way [x4]

Why, did I think too much?
You tell me not to worry
Because you’re the boss.
And you, you got a real good plan
My trouble’s all over now
Because you’re my man.

You don’t know what you’ve done to me.
You’re heavier than heavenly.
Life on the run has set me free, me free now.

We’re on our way...

You tell me not to worry
Because you’re the boss.

:crying5:  :crying5:  :crying5:

this entire song is iconic, brilliant, fantastic, incredible, never been done before, life changing,

"Long live our reign, long live our love" in BPBP sounds so majestic somehow, and like you're really proud of this love and the person you share it with. Like as if you're praising it and aren't afraid of showing it. May it lead to good things.

God Knows I Tried as a whole makes me teary eyed, especially when she sings:

God knows I live
God knows I died
God knows I begged
Begged, borrowed and cried
God knows I loved
God knows I lied
God knows I lost
God gave me life
And God knows I tried

For when you feel like everything you've done and achieved was in vain, here she comes with this song that tells you ''you gave your best, you are here because of your own effort, don't be so hard on yourself'' and comes with the rather triumphant:

So let there be light
Let there be light
Light up my life

Plus the instrumental just adds so much to the lyrics, the very desert/western elements, like the song that plays when the cowboy is ready to leave by riding into the sunset, symbolizing that feeling of self-realization, i love it.

Those summer nights seem long ago
And so is the girl you used to call
The queen of New York City

The "On Monday they destroyed me But by Friday I'm revived" part gives me life

This is my commitment, my modern manifesto
I'm doing it for all of us who never got the chance
For... and for... (Shut up, shut up)
And all my birds of paradise who never got to fly at night
'Cause they were caught up in the dance

I thought you posted this at the Worst Lana Lyrics and was shocked lmao

...just you and me feeling the heat even when the sun goes down...

"You know, sometimes I think God’s playing a little game with me
Looking down from heaven, laughing and trying to see how much I can take
Because the way things go, it's like a joke
Nobody's had more shots at the moon and missed than me"

Tired of Singing the Blues is a lyrical masterpiece for me, truly emotional and powerful song

Maybe by the time summer's done

I'll be able to be honest, capable

of holding you in my arms without letting you fall

when I don't feel beautiful or stable

really for me these lyrics are so honest and true

...just you and me feeling the heat even when the sun goes down...

Let's not forget about Starry Eyed  :krylie:

Life doesn’t always work out
Like you planned it
They say make lemonade if you got lemons
But I try and I just can’t understand it
All this trying for not good reason
Man makes plans and God laughs
Why do I even bother to ask?
