finally put froot back on rotation after not having it on like Actively since like, 2017 (i've listened to it in the meanwhile ofc just not a lot) and like wow i forgot how good it is?  like so many of the tracks (forget, solitaire, immortal have been my Trinity of sorts) are so fucking good.  feeling bad for not giving it the like Caring Listen it deserved back when i first found her

I still find that middle section of Froot (Gold – Can't Pin Me Down – Solitaire – Better Than That) really tiring to listen to, especially after the flawless previous tracks.

Charli can basically sing about partying and both critics and fans will praise her. Marina can sing about politics, psychology and things like that, and critics and fans will slander her no matter what, just because of high expectations or stylistic comparisons to previous records. That's that on that.

Because Marina tried to be fake deep while barely scratching the surface and the production was incredibly basic on Love+Fear. People didn't have a problem when she sang those topics on previous albums in a clever way over interesting production. Meanwhile Charli does not pretend to be someone she is not and embraces herself.

Why anyone takes notice of critics I don’t know. More then half of them can’t grasp anything other then a basic pop beat and wishy washy lyrics. Most don’t have any real specialist knowledge in music at all. They also have a habit of pandering to certain artists like Charli XCX. I’ve seen them rate a dire generic rap album with garbage lyric a 10, whilst Marina get’s a 5 or 6. I like Charli but honestly her music isn’t much better and she sounds like a robot on most of her songs.

Charli got high metacritic scores cause she makes good interesting music. Marina got a low metacritic score for EH cause a lot of times critics used to give women who made good music low scores (see BTD for example), they fully missed the point of the album also. She got a low score for L+F cause the album just wasn't that interesting. Simple as that. I think it's a pretty good album for what it is and it has a few standout tracks that are on par with her earlier work but as a whole it isn't anything more than lighthearted pop that sounds like stuff you'd hear on the radio.

Okay you know I love you and usually agree with pretty much everything you post, but... have you listened to her new album? Or anything she's released since Vroom Vroom, really? Obviously it's a matter of preference whether one enjoys that type of pop, but I definitely wouldn't call it mainstream or basic; that's a description that's reserved for Clean Bandit and certain acts associated with them.

It depends on how you look at it. Marina has demonstrated (in her older work, anyway) that she can be a brilliant writer, plus she has a great voice; Charli mainly excels in the area of production and just the will to experiment in her music. However, looking at their most recent albums (Love + Fear and How I'm Feeling Now) and comparing them, to me it's obvious which one is more interesting (trying to avoid the word "better" since that's never really objective).

Love + Fear isn't a good album. Marina is an excellent artist but it's not serving her best. Period. There's no reason for Charli to be the topic of ya conversations.
