Vertimus 9,674 Posted November 16 If COVID hadn't happened, my own life would be much better, because I lost a great job here in NYC, which was devastated by the pandemic in 100 ways. And the wolf was right at my door: though there are only 9 apartments on my floor, two men in other apartments died of COVID, and an older friend whom I had known also died of it, very suddenly. COVID destroyed so much and so many. The government's fumbling and junk science didn't help. BUT if there was no COVID, we wouldn't have Violets For Roses, one of my all-time favorite Lana tracks. And Black Bathing Suit might not exist either, or might in a different form. I'm glad Lana responded to COVID in her own way and didn't ignore it.
Vertimus 9,674 Posted November 16 So let me ask this: another member said yesterday that they hadn't seen a lot of dislike for Violets For Roses here on LanaBoards, and also for Arcadia, if to a lesser degree. Overall, Blue Banisters seems unpopular with the majority of members. Did I dream this?

It's probably because there were only 6 new songs by the time of its release (7 if you count Thunder bc of the new instrumental) and none were as revealing as Wildflower Wildfire or Blue Banisters

longtimeman 9,015 Posted November 22 Tomorrow is 11 years since I heard Lana for the first time, and I think I only just realised today what 'I Fucked My Way Up To The Top' is actually trying to say, which shows how slow I can be sometimes. I may have to get out the old wordpad app and write an essay on it ...
somber 525 Posted November 24 I never been the biggest fan of Chemtrails besides the title track and Yosemite. But now that it's getting colder, and the leaves are falling, and skies are brighter...I'm falling in love with Chemtrails. It's the perfect album for a walk tbh

AnarKissed 281 Posted November 25 In Greil Marcus' book Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the Twentieth Century, he traces a fascinating history of modern art, mentioning notable art movements including dadaism, situationism, lettrism, and futurism. The first time I saw L.D.R. in concert, I was in such a state of ecstatic intoxication that I sensed that what I was seeing on stage was a visionary culmination of the all the historical stages of art from ancient times up till now. And now, with the advent of the new Amerika-USSA, I am reminded that the futurists became fascists when Benito Mussolini came to power.
Make me your Dream Life 88,901 Posted November 28 So, strange parallel, but. I’ve been thinking how cool it kinda is, that I’m connecting this but. they used to have me sing as a front person in church. And I was kinda raised on hymns etc. but I just really love how Lana incorporates her religious background w her stuff from before, imagery lyrics and even sing styling infused. It kinda humanizes the experience for me strangely enough and I just really love and get inspired by that. Cus, being gay, and coming from that kind of background, it kinda feels like I’m not as alone when it comes to the realm of singing, and that I can reconcile both halves, when I just can’t relate to family’s pov’s sometimes. I’ve come to make my own kind of spiritual perspective that I like to think might be broader than the typical outlook. Cus maybe if the God of the bible can overlook those and forgive them in it, maybe the runt part of my soul might just be ok w that kind of level. Obviously the whole gay thing and the world of it but. Something I think about when I reconcile both halves in me or parts of me rather. Some songs just feel like home when I feel a bit too ostracized ir just can’t relate, despite wanting more of the traditional. It’s a nice portal to stay in sometimes.

helloheaven 600 Posted December 2 I was listening to brooklyn baby in the car with my gf yesterday and started thinking about the line “I'm churnin' out novels like Beat poetry on Amphetamines”. I write myself so this line got me thinking—has lana ever written in a longer form? when she was younger, did she write any novels? has she written memoir pieces? it’s extremely likely she’s just evoking the imagery of famous beat poets like kerouac and burroughs. i do think that brooklyn baby is a character/vibe evocative of her home state, not necessarily about lana’s own life. still, i’m a huge reader and would totally read a lana novel. imagine her writing fiction during the aka era…a book about the girl in gramma or the queen of the gas station

It's basically showing how the general public crucified her for her performance at the SNL and got criticized for her stage presence and live singing during the Born To Die tour in general and it's basically Lana having a "last laugh" how she's headlining Coachella now.
