The Baldoni vs Lively case

Recommended Posts

Plz move if this isn't the right place to talk about it but i felt a proper thread was needed.

BBC article

Independent UK article (from Mer)

Lively is accusing Baldoni of harassment and retaliation, and Baldoni is accusing her of defamation. Baldoni sued Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist, Leslie Sloane.

Can you please correct the thread title to “Baldoni” and maybe add a quick link to a source/summary of the case to the OP so users can quickly get caught up :) ?

The popular opinion from what I've seen is Baldoni (sadly).

As for the other side(.mp3) Lively is being scrutinized for being a mean girl. Which granted she can be, I just don't understand how that's equivalent to being a pervet and unprofessional so

this is a PDF of Baldoni's full countersuit with images attached.. he has a very convincing case tbh but to me all either lawsuit shows is that text messages can be isolated to paint whatever picture someone wants.. we won't know what really happened until they go to court (presumably 2026)

I’m not on either side right now but I am tired about hearing about this case everywhere on social media. So many people have spun it so weirdly that now it’s Ryan Reynolds who’s jealous of Justin Baldoni forcing Blake Lively to make these accusations? That’s weird, no matter how you try to slice it.

On the other hand, Lively and the NYT were kind of shady in how they dropped the story of her case. The fact that the NYT did not give Baldoni the time to respond is weird.

Also the scene that was leaked to TMZ by Baldoni (also weird, why are we going to TMZ to leak stuff about a legal case) just showed two people acting. To me neither looked uncomfortable and were doing their job

Sorry if anyone saw that duplicate thread i just created. I'm slow today.

Anyways, I want to talk about little more about my thoughts later as someone who reported their boss for SH. So much of this is coming from my nightmares i stg.

If there's one thing that comes out of this (for the public) i hope it's that people begin to understand the differences between SA, SH and everything that comes under those definitions + how victims respond vs how the public expects them to, especially in a professional setting.

Okay some points in response to the overwhelming viewpoints I've been seeing on youtube. And I feel quite vulnerable posting these points of view because of my own experience but whatever.

- Blake did look uncomfortable to me in several parts of that video. And in fact in one or two moments she kinda looks like she's in quiet disbelief. I don't really want to go and get timestamps but if you argue with me, I will.

- she is obviously someone to try and laugh off or talk through uncomfortable moments. Her reaction being a laugh and joke doesn't mean she didn't feel uncomfortable or harassed.

Spoiler

One reason i think my old boss thought he could get away with more sexual harassment towards me was because I DID laugh and quickly change the topic to avoid addressing it. And maybe no one else in the office said anything because they thought it was only an issue if I reacted upset.

- Justin may have just wanted to get the scene over and done with, and may not have intended to SH her but that doesn't mean as a director/boss you get a free pass into someones personal space when the actress isn't entirely on board and completely consenting. To me, I'm under the belief that in that specific scene, Justin did the neck touching without consent. Say what you want about Blake being bossy and controlling, but whatever she was doing during this production, that doesn't mean her consent in intimate scenes should be taken from her.

- i think Blake's memory of exact words and the sequence of events was a bit messed up because of feeling harassed and invaded. I don't think she purposely lied in the lawsuit. I think that is honest to God what she remembers because she probably went home feeling humiliated and in disbelief, and it might have been a long time before she finally put it all into writing with what she remembered/probably did not want to remember.

Now listen. I know it's very easy to be "on Justin's side" because there is a huge echo chamber going on online right now that no one is immune to, and it has built up so much momentum because of people bringing up frankly irrelevant things about Blake's past behaviour. If you are someone who thinks they believe and support victims, please rethink what you are consuming. This is coming from someone who actually did jump on board the "Blake is a meangirl and doesnt care about DV" train before we knew any details about her experiencing SH from Justin or what she was instructed to do via promotion. I started to take a step back once i realised how vicous people were using anything and everything (irrelevant) against her and how people connect dots without further critical thinking. Please. Rethink what you are consuming.

TikTok is VERY pro-Baldoni. It's getting a little bit weird cause I've noticed that a lot of women are beyond thrilled to dogpile on Blake Lively. And don't get me wrong, I think Blake is a totally shit person for a myriad of reasons, but it seems like the people hating on her are doing it more so out of internalised misogyny rather than, you know, the racism and supporting of Woody Allen. (On that note, I genuinely feel that it significantly undermines Blake's case that she has still not rescinded her support for Woody Allen yet.)

Reddit is slightly more balanced. People dislike Blake but get the ick from Baldoni too. Don't know about other social media sites.

I agree that I think Blake did look uncomfortable in those scenes, but I think the uncomfortably comes from not wanting to create conflict in her home life as prior to this she had been happy to work without an intimacy coordinator

sometimes it’s easier to for women in these cases to project the problem on to a coworker than see that their husband can not stop them doing their job because he doesn’t like that she has to work with a man.

So like I don’t really care, I think worst case scenario is Blake had a shitty coworker who made her uncomfortable. I feel for her if she was SH’d, but I don’t think a lot of the reasons referred to constitute that.

I don’t think it needed to be turned into this whole thing.

And since the NYT seems to have edited the text messages, I’m kind of believing this is a campaign against him rather than her.

People are against Blake because she was caught falsifying evidence against Baldoni through the original takedown article. No reason to believe anything she has to say after that.

@jealous girl , @Mer and I were having a small discussion about this on the Movie thread and my stance is - BELIEVE WOMEN.

People need to do better (I'm talking generally - mostly about people on socials)

She is not the person in the wrong just because you don't like her as an actress or because you don't find her attractive or because she's friends with Taylor Swift or because you think she pushes a kid on a swing incorrectly (and therefore mustn't push her own children on a swing and is therefore a bad mother and a bad person).

I've seen every justification under the sun for making her out to be some sort of demonic entity and him some sort of angel. I'm not saying she is perfect, but it's STUPID.

Is all of this worthy of a lawsuit? I don't know because I don't have all the evidence. That's for a court to decide. All I know is that she says she was uncomfortable and no one has any right to tell her that she isn't allowed to feel that way. Importantly, she doesn't need evidence to feel that way. Predators often operate in ways where there IS no evidence so this exact scenario (demonisation of the victim) occurs

This is why women do not speak out. As I said on the other thread, if Blake fkn Lively gets treated this way when she speaks up and says she was harassed and felt uncomfortable - what hope is there for ordinary women?

(PS women don't speak about this shit for FUN or publicity or whatever the fuck. And we can all see, from Blake's treatment, why that's such a stupid suggestion)

Fight me

Making this just about her gender is a gross oversimplification of the issue, specially in light of the evidence we already have.
