graham4anything 2,859 Posted November 2, 2015 This has been on my mind since the first time I heard Ride what, 4 years ago now the day it was released- the official lyric says I hear birds on the summer breeze NO Based on all the references in so many songs to music- it has to be I hear (THE) BYRDS on "The Summer Breeze" and if not mistaken there is a spotify site that is "The Summer Breeze" and that makes more sense as Lana is driving fast (wind in her hair) in her car in the entire song "I just ride...ride" and the Byrds would fit especially in Ride and the American (which is an alter reality version of Born to Run (even her woo hoos are just a lower volume Bruce born to run ) (much like David Lynch Mulholland Drive is the alter-reality version of Sunset Blvd. 0 Quote Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Totally unique. a mixture of Brian WIlson Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Elton & Bernie. Born to Die/Paradise is comparable to Elton's Captain Fantastic. All the records need to be listened whole. Waiting for a box set vinyl of all 400 songs not on any lp

graham4anything 2,859 Posted November 3, 2015 It is obvious it is about the Byrds not birds. In particular Gram Parsons "Drug Store Truck Driving Man" Gram was part of the Byrds for a short period in their coolest years One is driving at in the night hours, what birds are there? NONE. however, the Byrds have a famous song (actually many) about driving but one in particular is a Gram Parsons driven song "Truck driving man" deals with radio and listening specifically about a famous DJ that hated them because they did not have the sound required for radio play. Gram Parsons is one of the all time legends, though most people don't know him Gram should be and one day will be in both the Rock and Roll and the Country music hall of fame (why he wasn't in as a specific member of the Byrds is a big oversight on the Hall's part Gram was also the founder/leader of the legendary Flying Burrito Brothers Gram is rated #9 on the site "should be but is not in the hall of fame" online He should be given one of the "other" entry ways (Lifetime, etc.) As NWA will enter this year and they are #11, Gram should also be put in. www.halloffame.com/rock-and-roll Heaven would have been a duet between Gram Parsons and Lana Del Rey (listen to Gram and Emmylou Harris) 1 Quote Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Drug Store Truck Driving Man is a great song, but couldn't be further from the concept of Ride. As for the 'birds at night' idea - Lana will always value the 'story' or the poetry way above scientific reality.

graham4anything 2,859 Posted November 3, 2015 Drug Store Truck Driving Man was about specifically mega-nighttime DJ Ralph Emery who hated the Byrds and Rock and roll and long haired hippies for that matter (and later had a long running tv talk show on the Nashville network). Ralph was the overnite DJ on WSM which was a clear channel and heard in many USA states, especially by truck drivers and those who took rides across country. He was one of a handful then who could make or break a song in the country market in the 1960s/1970s Ride was a catharsis after Video Games didn't become the hit it should have ("trying so hard, with one pretty song") I would say the two songs have a very similar meaning and what is Lana if not immersed in musical and poetic references throughout (not to mention a major lover of science) 1 Quote Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Elle 122,853 Posted October 15, 2020 Here's the Drive demo lyrics. Minimal changes to the chorus and an entirely new bridge, where there's one line I can't entirely decipher: I’ve been out on that open road You can be my full-time daddy, white and gold Singing blues has been getting old You can be my full-time baby, hot or cold Don’t break me down I’ve been traveling too long I’ve been trying too hard With one pretty song I hear the birds on the summer breeze I drive fast I am alone at midnight Been trying hard not to get into trouble, but I I’ve got a war in my mind So I just drive Just drive Just drive Just drive Dying young and playing hard That’s the way my father made his life an art Drink all day and we talk 'til dark That’s the way the road dogs do it, light 'til dark Don’t leave me now Don’t say goodbye Don’t turn around Leave me high and dry I hear the birds on the summer breeze I drive fast I am alone at midnight Been trying hard not to get into trouble, but I I’ve got a war in my mind I just drive Just drive Just drive Just drive You think I'll ever feel different than I do now? You think I'll ever feel (??) drink again? You think I'll ever transform into the man God meant to make When he began? I hear the birds on the summer breeze I drive fast I am alone at midnight Been trying hard not to get into trouble, but I I’ve got a war in my mind I just drive I just drive I just drive I just drive 1 Quote • 4.18.14 • 5.1.14 • 9.20.14 • 5.28.15 • 6.14.15 • 7.28.16 • 7.24.17 • 10.23.17 • 10.24.17 • 1.25.18 • 2.5.18 • 12.5.18 • 10.3.19 • 10.11.19 • 11.16.19 • 8.6.23 • 9.21.23 • 10.1.23 • 5.17.24 • 5.19.24 • SF • ATL • ATL • IND • ATL • CHI • LDN • NYC • NYC • DC • ATL • NYC • PDX • SAN • KS • CHI • AL • MD • AL • AL

"You think I'll ever transform into the man God meant to make When he began?" Really interesting demo lyrics in the context of some of the other lyrics on Paradise! 3 Quote Goddesses don't speak in whispers. They scream.
