remember when we thought honeymoon would be the album where lana finally stood up to her man, but it turned out to be the whiniest lana album to date

I actually disagree, Lana stood up for herself way more that she has done in any other album Imho (Or probably is a mtach with UV), I feel like she's in way more control of the relationship in this album.

Lines like:"But you don’t go, ‘cause truly there’s nobody for you but me" "It's all a game to me anyway" "The truth is I never bought into your bullshit, When you would pay tribute to me" "Salvatore can wait, now it's time to eat soft ice cream", even in Freak I feel she's the one in charge and in 24 it almost feels like is threatening letter to his lover.

is it cacciatore or calciatore

calciatore apparently

I am even more puzzled now.

Cacciatore at least makes some sense, an Italian friend told me that this can also mean "playboy".

While "Calciatore" is a football player. Wat.

Out of all the songs Lana has written, Salvatore is the only one which is one, big mystery to me. I will probably never get what it's about :toofloppy:

I don't know if we can trust her with the Lyrics tbh... I mean she always forget them live, etc :toofunny:

this tbh

Lana forgot the setlist in Montreux this year. She had a paper with the setlist taped down next to a speaker and always went there to see which song comes on next :rip:

Well my friend said that cacciatore can mean "fisher", "hunter", or like I said, "playboy".

What u probably meant is "Pollo Cacciatore", which basically means "hunter-style chicken"

I absolutely agree. She's a #feminist on Honeymoon.

Do you think that Lana has become a critics' darling? Honeymoon is amazing and beautiful but it isn't her best project to date yet it's her most acclaimed album.

I'm sure critics have just "grown" to Lana's sound. It's also hard to hate Honeymoon imo, while there are stronger cons to UV and BTD.

in all honesty, btd is way better than honeymoon. uv is so far her best, btd very close behind it. i think, critics reacted positively towards  hm at first, however uv made waaay more year end's lists than honeymoon.

she should have been more acclaimed right from the start, but she was trashed like many ppl before her who released something totally against the trend.

she gave a new female perspective of love in the 2010's, she had a big production, a perfectly thoughtout concept album and a well-crafted image. she was a major threat. bonus: skinny and pretty. let us not forget: btd was the thrird best selling female album of 2012, only behind 21 and red. adele and taylor are the two biggest female artists since then. if taylor didn't have the us market, lana would have mopped the floor with her.

let's be real. she is not really beloved by some publications or the the industry. the industry is actually her biggest oponent. i always wonder why that is. i have my thoughts on it, but idk

If something is "amazing and beautiful" in a different way than "her best work" why is that not enough for people to be satisfied with the effort (or for critics to rate her more highly)? Just asking.

As to your question, critics reward oddity to some extent, except when they are truly confused by the original (as with BTD?). However, whether you like HM or not you have to concede that it was an odd and uncompromising attempt to create a retro pop record. On the other hand, uncompromising does not mean that she did not have an impressive number of good songs (and some masterpieces), but this depends on whether you like the genre she's referring to, of course. I still think her pop sensibility is quite strong on HM. I mean there are other, bigger stars than her (e.g., Bruce Springsteen), who have released heavy, uncompromising, introspective, dour, and/or downbeat albums (e.g., The Ghost of Tom Joad), so I think people should count their blessings a bit more with HM, which has quite a bit of flamboyance and fantasy in it, despite its pace.

Lana is not beloved by the industry because the industry can't control her like they do every other artist (much like movie studios abused actresses for decades continuing today)

that said, the other truism is-

Lana is far more $ for $ profitable to herself and the record company as she is by all accounting and statistical analysis than the ones that go for #1 singles (say Adele)

where taking into account every outlay vs incoming means less in the bank

Elizabeth Grant is a very smart business person on top of all the other things (in an industry that treats women as idiots, same way the Republicans treat women and any minority or immigrant or refugee)

Lana is on the same plane/place as Springsteen and the Dead and Dylan and Simon and does she wants to do

(Look how she played dan auerbach  and turned him into a believer and shut up his slurs against her, and in doing so, turned around some of the media with it too

(after all Dan (a male) is beloved by the alt-media and winning him, won them.

and to reiterate- Lana had a negativity against her PRIOR to release of Born to die, and no matter what she did, it mattered little at the time, the anti-to her was in.

in an industry were girl singer to the Man Band was historically the case, Lana leads the band (i.e. Lana is the cult leader, not the other way around.

It is my personal opinion- the Debbie/Donnie downers here and there, hate women on a level, perhaps even they do not realize (but would never admit it anyhow), and don't want

a woman to lead the band.

Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Totally unique. a mixture of Brian WIlson Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Elton & Bernie. Born to Die/Paradise is comparable to Elton's Captain Fantastic. All the records need to be listened whole. Waiting for a box set vinyl of all 400 songs not on any lp

I don't think Lana lost alot of her fans but rather alot of them just didn't like honeymoon...because if you look at her monthly listeners on Spotify she has 7.5 million and used to have 6.8 million which is almost as much copies she's sold of born to die and honeymoon's sales are only around 800k. I'm guessing all those listeners only listen to born to die and ultraviolence since honeymoon's listens are quite lower in comparison. So that could mean if she releases an album that's less laid back she could have way higher sales because I think she still has all her older fans but maybe honeymoon didnt appeal to them.

(I love honeymoon though I even bought the CD after buying the album from Google play because of how much I wanted the booklet)
