Oh, one thing I wish to mention to Lana fans is that smoking is banned in arenas in the US and Canada. Meaning you can't smoke tobacco or weed. If I lit up a cigar I would expect to be given flack by fans around me and have no right to complain if I was ejected and prosecuted.  I know in some states you can legally smoke weed in the privacy of your own home, but the smoking ban is for weed and tobacco. Hey I've smoked pot and I got no problem with people smoking weed, but you don't have a dispensation at Lana concerts to smoke weed if smoking is banned. Yeah people were smoking weed on the floor, but the thing is all smoking is banned.

There may be people around you who have asthma or allergies and their right to breathe air without smoke supersedes your right to smoke.  People who smoke either tobacco or weed at places where smoking is banned are just plain dicks.

I was glad she did Ultraviolence, OTTR, and Serial Killer. She did a pretty good job with those. SS and OTTR is different live in my opinion than the record. I would have liked to have Shades of Cool, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, Cola, Gods and Monsters, but I really liked the show.  OTTR is kind of cute when she pretends to be running by moving her arms.  The trinity of BTD, Video Games, Blue Jeans has to be accepted. I mean if you went to see the Rolling Stones, you'd expect to have Satisfaction, Jumpin' Jack Flash, and Brown Sugar.

    It was an awesome show.

I agree with everything you said. I think she's better with playing UV era songs BC they tend to be more dynamic/less boring live.
UV and honeymoon were robbed this time around.

I'm seeing her live for the first time in one week and I'm shitting myself. I'm also gonna be stone cold sober   (my unfortunate choice, recovering alcoholic here who just gave up weed January 1st) so idk how I'm gonna deal with the scream-singing fans but I will stay positive and keep focused on the mother goddess.

Good show. She went for about 90 minutes. She announced her brother lives in Minneapolis.

One thing to consider is that we have to remember that Lana was born after the Source was a spent force. So  we need to wonder how and why Lana knows so much about the Source and what is her connection. What if this is speculation and a coincidence?

  14. delreyfreak liked a post in a topic by PennCentralFan in Is "Beyoncé" just a big rip-off of Lana Del Rey?
I agree with your assessment. Lana is very influencial among other artists. Miley has covered her song, Taylor Swift and Ke$ha have clearly been inspired by Lana.

But Beyonce is completely copying Lana. This is needs to hit the blogosphere and mainstream media.

The point is that Lana does not come from a family that has a disproportionate amount of social and financial power and is not what most people would call high-status. Sure she comes from money but her family worked pretty hard for it.  Plus WASPy people don't live in trailer parks in New Jersey follow some guy to the South and work as a cocktail waitress and attend  Fordham which is a Jesuit school in New York and is not a WASPy institution and it does not sponsor Fraternities and Sororities which are mainstays of WASPy culture.

I am not the one who doesn't understand. You don't understand what and who WASPs are and what it means to be WASPy.

I don't know why some of you have a problem with me objecting to the term WASP. One her lifestyle was in fact very middle class even though she comes from some money she did some very normal things that millions of girls like her (catholic, middle- to upper-class) did. The WASPy thing in my opinion is a mistake. For example wealthy Catholics like Paris Hilton and the Kennedy family did a lot of the same things as many middle-class Catholic families in the US. But the Kennedy's and the Hiltons are not WASPs.  Saying she did WASPy things is incorrect especially within the US context where WASP means Protestant Upper-Class. And the things she did as a child and so on is very common for millions of middle-class kids in the US as well.

WASPy implies values and a world-view that is not shared by non-WASPs in the US.

Yeah, but someone who is Catholic is not a WASP by any means. Some Roman Catholics may find the term insulting. I am not saying she would, but some Catholics would take offense at being called a WASP or being WASPy as early in the country's history and well into the 1960s Catholics were discriminated against. JFK was and is a big deal to some Catholics still..
  18. delreyfreak liked a post in a topic by PennCentralFan in Lizzy in old Lake Placid area newspapers
That's awesome. Her religious background is pretty much normal for Roman Catholic kids who went to Catholic Schools. As one of them myself it's pretty normal. Also the Birthright charity is not necessarilty anti-abortion or anti-choice. It's mostly about providing services and aid and money and baby clothes and things for young mothers who need them.
  19. delreyfreak liked a post in a topic by PennCentralFan in Lana’s Fib About Her Age-Some Thoughts
Youth sells more in the music biz. From Mozart to now that's how it goes. If 1D were even 5 years older they wouldn't be what they are. It's the same way with Taylor Swift--though she is a talented songwriter.

I can imagine record companies wanting Lana to be younger, but Lana's music I think isn't dependent on age.

I like the video a great deal. I think it's good in that the title of the song and lyrics are so intense it needed a simple video that allows the viewer to interpret it as they see it. We have Lana's interpretation but it's up to us the interpret it for ourselves and make the video meaningful to us as well.

Nice theory but I feel like some people here are overinterpretating a bit because they want things to be like they imagine. There are things you could see as references, but I highly doubt that Lana did a record about this Family. Like the tree thibg ... this are not some super-rare trees or any kind of unique arrangement. Its some kind of common tree. Or the stretched out arms ... I think you really start to see the things you want to see at this point.

Btw I don't want to interfere with anyone's spiritual believs, but let's not forget that in the end it was a group of almost only white, heterosexual people from the middle/upperclass who idolized a man who left his family and surrounded himself with young women.
And as far as you can tell from her statements, Lanas cult-experiences, with whatever sect/cult, wasnt a positive one.
