no offence but i think its quite clear now Lana doesn’t give a fuck to play the “era” game with yall. She will release when she feels like it and that’s it. I don’t see why yall complain considering 1) no one does eras anymore pretty much 2) her albums are still timeless 3) the last album was not even 2 years ago

like I genuinely don’t understand why yall complain so much loll who cares

I'm still in denial over this. I thought he'd make it to his mid eighties and we'd get another little project from him. Nonetheless, I'm glad his last work was The Return, what a mind fucking blowing piece of art. He captured the feeling of nostalgia for something that no longer exists so well, I'm always thinking about that last episode. Twin Peaks will always be my favorite piece of media, it's just something that feels specifically made for me. I see myself in so many of his characters, specifically Laura Palmer, David showed a cycle of familial trauma that really fucking HURT to watch because it hit so close to home for me. I re-watched FWWM yesterday and was truly blown away. I hope he rests in peace, and to quote something I heard; "his artistic influence will be felt until cinema no longer exists."

The only artist in history to impact me as greatly as Lana has, maybe more so. Discovering Twin Peaks during my first year of university was life changing. His work has had a huge impact on my creativity, and his outlook on life is greatly inspiring. What a unique and incredible soul he had, and his art is the greatest to ever be captured on film. No one saw the world like he did and we are so lucky to have witnessed some of the wildness that his mind had to offer. He managed to delve into the darkest parts of the human soul in the most thrilling ways, while always making sure that the humour and the light stayed just as prominent and powerful as the evil that surrounds us. Rest in peace you magical man, thank you for everything you've given the world. <3

I'm all for free speech, but some of you are way too eager to defend the rights of stupid bigots spreading evil rhetoric and it's not a good look. Like I think we can all agree free speech is important in general, so why get so worked up on lanaboards.com insisting that we must ensure that ignorant and cruel losers maintain their right to hate too. Like sure duh equal rights for all, but it's a strange hill to die on on this particular forum.

I personally have no problem with right-wingers who feel they’re being censored on this platform (or most sites, frankly) because the entire world tends to cater to their worldview and LGBT folks should have places to feel safe and welcome for a single moment in their day which is most likely being bombarded with anti-trans propaganda

None of these billionaires are free speech absolutists. Musk banned “cis” from X and Zuckerberg actively suppressed information about the genocide of Uyghurs in China

Y’all can keep having this conversation about free speech vs. hate speech but at the end of the day any speech will be censored if it affects these freaks’ profit motives.

There is a 100% chance Zuck and Musk are secretly celebrating the mass censorship of TikTok. That’s not very free speechy.

We’re at the mercy of these people.

Me and my boyfriend were rewatching The Elephant Man last night (pure cosmic irony), so it hit me like a truck when i picked up my phone afterwards and saw.
This man defined my relationship with movies, how i formed my watching habits, how i understand them, how i allow them to sit with me and how i learned to let the mystery be sometimes. In turn all of this has now influenced other things in myself. It's a big part of how i became who i am today.
Truly feels like with his passing someone shut the lights off...and i've never before been this struck by a death of an artist or someone public.
I can wallow forever...he created impecable works of art and influenced so much of what we see nowadays in art and media, his style reverbeates everywhere.
His kindness and empathy towards his characters i can't even put into words..all of them - Laura, Diane, Lula, Dorothy, Nicki, Margaret and many many more. His truly unique vision and work methods, his attentiveness and unwavering skill.
The man who without one ounce of doubt follows what is true to him - the fact that he came up with the idea of BOB in Twin Peaks by chance of seeing Frank Silva in Laura's room working on the set. And countless other anecdotes.
There never will be anyone like him, rest in peace and keep at your journey, David.
Thank you for your immense contribution

This is so devastating. No single person has changed me as a person like Lynch has. I watched Wild At Heart in high school and it changed everything for me, I was so fascinated by how Lynch’s style evoked a dream-like affect so similar to that of how my actual dreams play out. It felt like I was able to record my dreams and play them back. It unlocked such a profound love for film and inspired me to study film and media in college and now I aspire for a career in the film industry. I credit Lynch for informing my identity not only in my interests and sensibilities when it comes to art, but also in how I see the world around me and find beauty and value in what most others would disregard as mundane or offputting. I always go back to Twin Peaks when I need to regain a sense of hope. I fear what I would have been without him. </3

You are really over-simplifying the issue. No one is supporting the idea of taking away free speech. We all want free speech, it's our right, and I think everyone can recognize the dangers of government control.

That being said, harassment and bullying are crimes and hate speech should absolutely fall under those categories. You don't have to directly and explicitly call for violence to call for violence. Dehumanization leads to violence and we should all be concerned about that. Limiting the freedom of cruelty online is not the same as blocking free speech.

Sure hate speech is free speech but also social media platforms are not the public square. These are privately owned companies who have the right to determine what kind of content is permitted on their platform. And then there's the whole mess of advertisers who don't want their brand associated with nazis. Also there are LGBTQ people on the meta team who will voice concern and outrage about what effect on society their work is having.
So Zuck reversing the ban on transphobic hate speech is protecting free speech. Yay. Meanwhile the Vivienne is dead due in no small part to the constant barrage of conservative hate she got.
Meta is communicating their values on trans rights with this decision and believe me the message is heard loud and clear

It doesn't matter what they want to do bc the hate speech currently happening influences the physical actions people take when they assault trans people or gay/but/pan people or immigrants or people of color and so on. It's not the same at all. It's not okay but the impact is very different.

You're defending their "right" to bully and use slurs. You're defending them and making it okay even if you don't see tha
These people do jump to insinuating, influencing, encouraging, or threatening violence. And that kind of thing adds to it full stop

You're definitely prioritizing the right to be a horrible person over empathy for other people.
