The new trailer looks amazing and has made me SO excited for this season. I think the highlight was watching Cody move his hips in the aerobic class

It sounds like "we're party eagles down in Malibu" even though "we play the Eagles down in Malibu" makes a lot more sense?

I can actually manage to listen to the song without hating it and being disappointing. it all goes fine. Im just left wondering what happened to make her change it. Are the lyrics actually true? were THEY really so obsessed with writing the next BAR? Did it really happen? Was she also to blame in the first BAR but not telling the whole story? Or did someone new come along who was better for her but got her too involved?
Like this isn't just another Beautiful People turned kid-friendly cause there was nothing wrong or violent or particularly distasteful (subjectively cause i love the original BP tho some would say it's just another glorification of domestic abuse) in the original BAR, and it goes better with the NFR theme of a guy who thinks he's everything. And then NFR (song) wouldn't feel so 'stand-aloneish' in this album cause we'd actually have a return to that theme?

I don't really think it's about Lorde since if she criticised Lana in 2013, she would have been 16. I can't really imagine Lana taking that comment so seriously that she ended up making a giant 'fuck you' song to a 16 year old, ya feel?

Anyway just came into this thread to talk about how she bangs the fuck out of this bridge.

"lived on the dark side of the AAAHHHHMERICAN dream . . . nothing was WHAAT IT SEEMED". Lana why can't you sing it like this all the time gurl.

Oh yeah I remember the interview where lorde said lanas music is shallow because she sings about opulence. That mightve been it in FMWUTTT.

Back in 2016 or 17 Halsey was talking about how she wanted to make an album that put the whole "mood/world/aesthetic" a step further and used Born to Die and Arctic Monkeys album as an example of something she wanted to do better (basically) except her result was Hopeless Fountain Kingdom who h honestly did not live up to that at all, nor rival BTD or Arctic Monkeys in the slightest.
Anyway, there was that too but a couple of years too late^
Also, I've never really gotten into Lorde, so I can't tell if the broody aesthetic is copying Lana or actually her own. I think they did get big at the same time

    Hey guys!

The first time I saw the double video for Fuck it, I love you and The greatest I thought how it well the visuals would go along with Summertime Sadness!

Here's my take on it. Hope you enjoy! (Although hope is a dangerous thing for a guy like me to have - but i have it haha)

Some people speculated it was Lorde since she criticized her back in 2013 saying that Lana’s music wasn’t good (in terms of self-image and perception of how relationships are supposed to be) for young people to listen to. Then a year later, when Lana is asked about FMWUTTT she says in Grazia magazine, “It’s about a singer who first sneered about my allegedly not authentic style but later she stole and copied it. And now she’s acting like I am the art project and she the true super artist. My God and people actually believe her, she’s successful! I shouldn’t continue ranting, it doesn’t get anywhere.” So people were connecting the two, but they had so many other theories because people heard her influence in songwriting in up and coming artists during that time and the lyrics are so vague tbh. Funny that you mention Halsey- I heard she criticized Lana in an interview (can’t find it or remember when) which I found ironic because before then she used to make it obvious she was a fan (singing covers of Lana’s songs before she got famous) and you could hear some influence when she released her first album (some lyrics and the production) and she’s also been accused of ripping off other people. I think even Sky Ferreira shaded her for Ghost- or maybe that was more shade @ the label because she kind of implied they were trying to market someone more marketable to replace her. But overall- back to the song- who knows who it’s about...

If she wanted to do a longish outro, she should have just ad-libed it. Instead of trying to make a statement.

Her going out of her way to attack Kanye's politics before so many other people's is really annoying to me. Like her whole thing to him on Twitter, which led to the beef with Azealia Banks. Not only was that whole thing cringe-worthy (especially that faux-hood "I won't not fuck you the fuck up" and "you know the addy" which imo reinforced the points Banks was making about her approprating poverty), but I found myself left thinking "after your notorious lack of interest in political shit, you decide to break your near-silence on these things to go after two mentally ill POC, who are already basically pariahs in the entertainment industry."

I mean, I get that she was actually friends with Kanye and Azealia so she's more emotionally invested in their thoughts, but I still didn't think it looked very good.

The Greatest is funny because throughout her career she has made it a point that she thinks so highly of the Beach Boys despite Mike Love being a Trump supporter but then decides to highlight only Kanye's politics in the same song. If she's going to go out of her way to prioritize other people's politics so much perhaps she should start taking a hard look at all her long term idols rather than selectively romanticizing them over others

    I agree.

I'm feeling pretty controversial so I shall now proceed to make the following unpopular statement:

The Greatest is overrated whilst Fuck it I love you is underrated. Two weeks ago I would've laughed at anyone who said that but I'm sayin' it.

Put it in your vape and smoke it, ladies.

I have a few others but they're about the rest of NFR so I shall refrain from posting 'til it's released so I can fight with everyone and not just the people who listened to the leaks.

That is incredibly fucked up. Wow whoever put that there. Reminds me of when I was watching the news and a story about women being sexually assaulted in Australian liberal parliament came on, they fucking played video games (instrumental) in the background as the girls were talking about how they were attacked. Idk if someone just thought it was good emotional music and didn't know the full song or they  or put there there as they actually thought it was a good fit but it made me sick.

Wow I would not put it past her. Taylor is obsessed with Lana's music.

sorry if this was discussed in depth back in 2014-15 but is FMWUTTT about anyone in particular? Who was impersonating her at the time? I don't think Taylor had done it yet, and Halsey was like completely unknown then or only had her song Ghost which is nothing like Lana.

I think it's amazing and had it been released, with a video, it would have gone viral.

Idk why but VB never feels like it's over 6 minutes to me. Cruel World feels longer (even tho it's my favourite) and I've always enjoyed VB as a long song with beautiful vibes that aren't too repetitive, like there's always more to look forward to in the song.

I have not grown into the outro of The Greatest tho. Whenever I read someone talking about how it's amazing I'm like "oh, um, that's nice I guess". But it's boring to me and I'd love it if there were at least more background vocals in that part, like the outro of Prisoner with The Weekend.

I love the length of Venice Bitch, but I do wish we would have gotten a proper radio edit of it. I would listen to it more but I don’t always feel like listening to a 10 minute song, no matter how good it is. I get what lana was saying when she said something like it’s a song for driving around to.
Speaking of songs being longer than necessary, I feel like the last minute and a half of the greatest could have been axed. The lyrics don’t flow well and are painfully milquetoast. The piano is pretty, but it’s just pretty. I feel like the song would have more impact if it ended with ‘I miss doing nothing most of all’.

Okay, so I'm unsure of where to post this- but maybe I'll just start the discussion here:

So, I was watching this video about Robyn- her career and influence in the music industry (a really good video, I recommend watching the whole thing!). Interesting information came up concerning the artists who work with Max Martin (Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift etc.). Apparently there were times where artists would come to producers asking them to help them sound like her. You can listen to that part starting at 16:25... https://youtu.be/A37w5qcShyM?t=985

This one producer Robyn was working with said, "So whenever I have a female artist come into my studio, they usually put your album on the table and they're like: 'I wanna make this!'" The guy who made the video then explains how songs by these artists sound like a "diet version" of Robyn's songs.

So yesterday, I kept reading a lot of comments not only here but on other forums saying that Taylor Swift's new songs sound a bit more like something Lana would have written or sung. Now, I'm bringing this up here because I don't want Swifties on my ass- it's just a theory... What if this isn't a coincidence? What if what happened to Robyn is happening to Lana to a certain extent? I mean, she is getting more recognition now but artists who sound a bit too familiar to her music style has been a nagging not-as-spoken-enough issue for me for quite a few years now. What if Lana's style of writing, singing, producing is being intentionally implemented into Taylor's music? Idk where I'm going with this, I mean obviously FMWUTT shows that Lana is aware of some artists who secretly try to steal her style and it bothers her. But I wonder how'd she'd feel if this was happening behind the scenes by a fan of hers (Taylor). And yeah, granted Taylor’s also working with Jack but I feel like this issue preceded his work with her (Wildest Dreams anyone? which was also produced by Max Martin )

It makes me sad when I see the older guys in Lana's videos, bc I know it's not always some kind of romanticized, or an erotic sorta thing. The whole contrast of being younger and being around older people, finding yourself talking to them randomly. They have so many dreams and stories and wisdom to impart, and it almost feels like they're just itching to just tell someone. Do u think she thinks about these things?

100% agree. I think all of her lead singles have represented the records perfectly

also I don't think this song represents the sound of the album very well because it's the most pop sounding, it probably would've done the best in terms of streams but I think that lana's lead singles should represent the sound of the album like they always have
