I used to be obsessed with that part in the music video where she's on the bike with the fireworks in both hands and wearing the headdress but I found out later that doing that is very problematic, but ignorant me loved that aesthetic   

 

Random, but when my sister first heard that part in Ride, she was like "I think Lana might also have bipolar! Cause when she says 'I'm tired of feeling like im fucking crazy!" and I was like, oh sis, not everyone who feels crazy has to have bipolar

It makes me sad when I see the older guys in Lana's videos, bc I know it's not always some kind of romanticized, or an erotic sorta thing. The whole contrast of being younger and being around older people, finding yourself talking to them randomly. They have so many dreams and stories and wisdom to impart, and it almost feels like they're just itching to just tell someone. Do u think she thinks about these things?

Seeing those posts brought me back to those Facebook days where people thought posting the long ass disclaimers- “FB (or any other app), please don’t use my information!” -would actually make them exempt from whatever changes they were making. If that were the case, really unfair for most people who never see these disclaimers to repost them. Also Byron reposted it too, but at least he said “just in case”... so he knows it does nothing?... but... lol still, I thought it was common sense that those posts have as much power as those “one like = one prayer” posts. Okay, so I'm unsure of where to post this- but maybe I'll just start the discussion here:

 

So, I was watching this video about Robyn- her career and influence in the music industry (a really good video, I recommend watching the whole thing!). Interesting information came up concerning the artists who work with Max Martin (Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift etc.). This one producer Robyn was working with said, "So whenever I have a female artist come into my studio, they usually put your album on the table and they're like: 'I wanna make this!'" The guy who made the video then explains how songs by these artists sound like a "diet version" of Robyn's songs.

 

So yesterday, I kept reading a lot of comments not only here but on other forums saying that Taylor Swift's new songs sound a bit more like something Lana would have written or sung. Now, I'm bringing this up here because I don't want Swifties on my ass- it's just a theory... What if this isn't a coincidence? What if what happened to Robyn is happening to Lana to a certain extent? I mean, she is getting more recognition now but artists who sound a bit too familiar to her music style has been a nagging not-as-spoken-enough issue for me for quite a few years now. What if Lana's style of writing, singing, producing is being intentionally implemented into Taylor's music? Idk where I'm going with this, I mean obviously FMWUTT shows that Lana is aware of some artists who secretly try to steal her style and it bothers her. But I wonder how'd she'd feel if this was happening behind the scenes by a fan of hers (Taylor). And yeah, granted Taylor’s also working with Jack but I feel like this issue preceded his work with her (Wildest Dreams anyone? which was also produced by Max Martin )

I don’t know what you guys are hearing but tswift sounds absolutely nothing like lana, she doesn’t sing like Lana (breathy vocals were not invented by Lana, Taylor just doesn’t have her very distinctive style and isn’t trying to copy it either), she doesn’t write like Lana (Taylor, despite going pop, has the sensibility of a country songwriter. At her best her songs are simple and understated, yet can have emotional impact because of the details she includes which can make the song feel very real, whereas Lana has always been much more dramatic, writing about tragic love and death and the end of the world among other things) and I doubt she has the same production as her but I refuse to listen to her new album (her singles definitely don’t tho)

I started binge watching Mindhunter yesterday w my sister (watch it on Netflix it's freaking amazing and apparently season 2 is even better) and I was watching mindlessly videos about the serial killers they talk about in the show and I stumbled upon a video where they use a screenshot of Lana's rape scene from Marilyn Manson's video to illustrate a murderer raping his victims and I don't know why but that actually really troubles me. It's completely out of context and her image makes no sense being used here. I'm even more shocked that I instantly recognized her seing the picture is processed with filters.

That is incredibly fucked up. Wow whoever put that there. Reminds me of when I was watching the news and a story about women being sexually assaulted in Australian liberal parliament came on, they fucking played video games (instrumental) in the background as the girls were talking about how they were attacked. Idk if someone just thought it was good emotional music and didn't know the full song or they  or put there there as they actually thought it was a good fit but it made me sick.

And now she’s acting like I am the art project and she the true super artist. My God and people actually believe her, she’s successful! I shouldn’t continue ranting, it doesn’t get anywhere.” So people were connecting the two, but they had so many other theories because people heard her influence in songwriting in up and coming artists during that time and the lyrics are so vague tbh. Funny that you mention Halsey- I heard she criticized Lana in an interview (can’t find it or remember when) which I found ironic because before then she used to make it obvious she was a fan (singing covers of Lana’s songs before she got famous) and you could hear some influence when she released her first album (some lyrics and the production) and she’s also been accused of ripping off other people. Oh yeah I remember the interview where lorde said lanas music is shallow because she sings about opulence. That mightve been it in FMWUTTT.

 

Back in 2016 or 17 Halsey was talking about how she wanted to make an album that put the whole "mood/world/aesthetic" a step further and used Born to Die and Arctic Monkeys album as an example of something she wanted to do better (basically) except her result was Hopeless Fountain Kingdom who h honestly did not live up to that at all, nor rival BTD or Arctic Monkeys in the slightest.

Also, I've never really gotten into Lorde, so I can't tell if the broody aesthetic is copying Lana or actually her own. I think they did get big at the same time

I've always heard the Lorde speculation, but I could also believe it's about Gaga. They were both from the same underground scene in NYC, and Lana wrote that "So Legit" song about her. Plus I remember really old (pre-LDR persona, like 2009) Facebook posts of her trashing Gaga. Something about not understanding the hype.

do you guys think fuck my way up to the top is about a specific person? i mean if it is i hope it isn’t lorde because 1. she was underage when lana wrote the song and it would be pretty shitty to call a 16-17 yr old a whore as a grown ass woman and 2. she wasn’t even copying lana nothing about their lyrics or singing styles is even remotely similar. it also can’t be gaga because refer back to point 2 i made for lorde, i don’t see any similarities
