Blue Banisters - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
Chocolate Eyes replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
Violets for Roses is one of my favorite songs from BB. The melody and lyrics are lovely. I’m surprised to hear it is disliked. I read a post by someone making a guess that violet = blue = Lana’s favorite color as she mentions it a lot in her songs, and therefor “trade my violets for roses” is word play about her making sacrifices for someone she loves. Gives it a new meaning. -
Serene Queen doesn’t sound like anything else on LFL. It’s cool though, I love hearing Lana sampling rock.

Did she ever get this big of a reaction for supporting Migos? They used an anti-Asian racial slur in “Get right witcha”. Both the rap group and the country singer are wrong, but why the selective outrage?

In “Cola”, for the longest time I heard “Javi” (pronounced “ha-vee” - a nickname for guys named Javier) instead of the other name. I didn’t know the actual lyric until metoo and the explanation as to why she changed/stopped singing this song. I never really bothered to read the lyrics. It’s “Ah, he’s in the sky…” now, but I still keep hearing Javi.

I’m being captain obvious, but I’ve been inactive in stan circles for a while so I’m just now noticing. Ever since Honeymoon, people have said with every album she’s put out since then that “this is her most boring/unimpressive work I miss old (UV, BTD, Lizzy Grant) Lana”. NFR seems to be an exception as I noticed most fans, stans, locals, etc liked it. Also as time goes by, those so called “boring albums” get appreciated more. Honeymoon is now considered an overlooked masterpiece. LFL was for years considered the least favorite among fans, but I’m recently starting to see lots of love and appreciation for it. Currently it’s COTCC I see getting the “boring” label. i predict in another two years people are gonna shower COTCC with love.

Mon Laferte or Myrkur Mon Laferte recently said she’d like to collab with Lana, and Lana followed her on IG. Two alt-pop girls with a vintage flair, bringing together Lana’s “americana“ references and Mon’s “latin” roots would make an epic collab. Myrkur also answered “Lana Del Rey” when asked in an interview who she’d like to collab with. A few songs from the “Mareridt” album gave a Paradise/UV vibe, “Crown” and “Juniper” in particular. I’d love to hear Lana’s voice over metal. A scream-off between the two, Myrkur’s black metal shrieks vs Lana’s “Dealer” style yells, would be awesome and goosebump inducing.

Always found Hangin Around and Baby Blue Love quite haunting, the way her vocals sound and echo on top of the slow eerie orchestral atmosphere. There’s something about Daddy Issues/I Was in a bad way. Not sure how to describe it though. Let My Hair Down is a little spooky, but in a sexy way.

Arcadia/Rosemead/San Gabriel are probably another thing like “13 Beaches” for her. I live nearby. It gets traffic like the rest of LA county, of course neighboring cities Monterey Park and Alhambra were in the news lately because of the shooting that happened four weeks ago, but it’s normally rather safe and calm here. It’s not too touristy, the locals stick to themselves and mind their business, lots of culture and delicious/cheap authentic “ethnic food” (the majority of the population is Asian or Latino). I can see the San Gabriel Valley being another haven for her to get away from the paps and LA city craziness.

I was wondering at first why she mentioned Rosemead (a city neighboring Arcadia), something I assumed would be more associated with her current life, along with things from the past like mentioning Jimmy and other Lizzy sounding lyrics. This makes the guess that the song is about the criticism throughout her career make sense.

TW for SA/r*pe I change my mind about this not being amongst my favorites. After more listens and reading the lyrics carefully, I love it more. It’s powerful and dark. A common guess analysis is that it’s about how the media and public view her. From sexualizing her when she was thin, to shaming her for not fitting in beauty standards after weight gain and dressing more casual. The line about the SA sticks out to me also. I was r-ped around the end of 2017. The stress and having to cope with what happened, not having anyone to talk to who got me, as cheesy as it sounds Lana’s music was my safe space at the time. Especially the LFL album, I was listening to it a lot (LFL was the current era at the time) and i found the folksy songs soothing (the last half of the album after Coachella that most people seemed to dislike the album for). Lana pointing out something like this in a new song makes me love her as an artist even more. She always delivers.

I immediately thought this sounded like her 2009/2010/2011 unreleased stuff. Songs like Put Your Lips Together, Wolf Tshirt, Us against the world/Party Girl/Daytona meth. Even the lyrics are Lizzy, mentioning Jimmy and SW references. Not my most favorite. But still a very good song and I love the style. Made me more excited for the rest of the album.

This thread is hilarious! but conservatives were the original cancel culture pioneers when they were picketing rock shows in the 90s/early y2k.

Music (& stuff) people like that you tried to get into, but can’t

The first verse is my favorite. I love this song because I feel I sort of relate to it. I was born and raised in a small town, moved to a suburb in LA county early 2017, for some time in 2019 I wanted to move out somewhere else. I’ve been inactive on this forum and other fan communities for a while, so why is it most fans seem to dislike this song? Something I noticed.

TikTok is a cesspool of gross. I have come across the coquette thing on Instagram and Twitter too. Being a Lana stan and girly girl who wears dresses 99% of the time and likes “kawaii” things, was natural I’d come across them. Most just post fashion and music pictures for aesthetic. But now and then I do come across cringe pro-Ana, “I want a sugar daddy”, “I’m toxic heehee” girls. They’re usually 14-21 year olds.

Coconut and Key Lime Pie It sounds so 'Lizzy', have a feeling it could be a cute acapella like My Song 57.

Looking forward to Gfriend's "album" Walpugis Night coming in the next 2 weeks. GFriend is one of the few whose entire discography I love. All their lead singles are strong and every release EP/album has been enjoyable. For now I'm still on their last EP Song Of The Sirens, which I think is one of their best (favorite of mine besides Time For The Moon Night and The Awakening) and has a variety in genres sampled. Tracks 2, 3, AND 4 are the groups signature anime-esque cinematic sound, the lead Apple is a dancepop song would fit right in with mainstream western/anglo music, Creme Brulee is a cutesy bop with some trap influence, Northern Stairs is laid back with guitar/pop-rock.
-
I had higher expectations for this album and in the end I’m gonna have to pass on it. I don’t hate it, it wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t anything special either. Maybe my opinion is an unpopular one, but, I don’t think she has the voice for pop/dance music. She’s a nice singer, but with that raspy edge her voice has she sounded better doing that pop-rock/Alanis Morissette inspired music from OOTB and the unreleased songs.

Earlier today I closed the story out immediately for hearing Eminem since I don’t like his music. Reading the last few pages made me curious to go back watch the story (but on mute). You guys weren’t overreacting. That was scary to even watch.

I started watching Karine Alourde recently, and this video is how I discovered her. I like most of her stuff. But I get the feeling she might not be so "sex positive" as in this post (which was obviously pointing at the W.A.P. song by Cardi and Megan Stallion) she kind of did end up saying what so many people mistakenly thought Lana was saying. Had Karine been white she would've probably received some of the same heat. There's a few Lana songs I think would fit Malena's character (softspoken, reserved, quiet, glamorous, misunderstood, outcast). It's an interesting movie, but sad due to how the main character is bullied.

New Dreamcatcher EP on replay. My two favorites. [/youtu
