    The Emancipation of Mimi

In 2001, after the terrible fiasco that was Glitter and the emotional breakdown that soon followed, Mariah Carey was dead and gone, for the press.  Has been. Nothing but a faded dream. Old news. She took some time for herself and released "Charmbracelet", that received a mere lukewarm welcome. And then came 2005.

    It's Like That :

Nothing sensational, chart wise, but to everyone's surprise, the song got airplay and ... Yes, people actually seemed to enjoy it ! Careless, and fun ... BOP
    "It's a special occasion/Mimi's Emancipation/A cause for celebration/I ain't gonna let nobody's drama bother me"

    We Belong Together :

The song soon became a MONSTER hit. You simply couldn't escape a Radio Station playing it or a MV Channel spinning the video, it was omnipresent. 14 weeks spent to Number 1. Billboard baptized it Song of the decade (little known fact, MC had the song of the previous decade with "One Sweet Day", ft Boyz 2 Men, a song that spent 16 weeks atop the charts).

    Shake It Off :

Shake It Off had to satisfy itself with the second position, well ... Because We Belong Together was still destroying lives everywhere !

    Don't Forget About Us :

Don't Forget About Us quickly became Mariah's 17th Number One. In the following era, E=MC2, "Touch My Body" earned her her 18th, tying her with Elvis Presley (also 18 number ones, I believe). Only the Beatles have more (21, If I'm not mistaken).

Undisputedly one of the biggest and unexpected comebacks of the history of music, Mariah Carey managed, once again, to prove herself to the world (even though she doesn't need to, anymore   ).

Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

    Power/Runaway/Monster/All of the Lights

Who could forget the epic return of Kanye after much controversy? Many people wanted him to comeback and fail but he ended up making one of the best albums of the decade and in the history of rap/hip-hop. Many Kanye fans I know call this his best album.

(For me it's Yeezus but he only released 2 singles from it soo...)

CHRISTINA AGUILERA - SELF TITLED (1999)

I remember the Britney vs Christina debate like it was yesterday. My seven-year-old self was firmly in the Christina camp. She didn't have Britney's sugary-sweet Max Martin production, she wasn't a dancer (no matter how hard her label tried to make her one), and she didn't have the Lolita innocence on lock. She did, however, have that voice.

The singles run of Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants, I Turn to You, and Come on Over (All I want is You). Click on the single art to listen.

Years later, I would decide to laminate my stan card for Britney... but my appreciation for this single run remains. Obviously some of the production elements sound dated, but on the whole, the production is impressive and fairs better than Britney's ...Baby One More Time.

Hi friends! I thought we could share our favourite mammoth single runs. Some album eras generate these massive campaigns with single after single on the charts, a new music video on rotation (shout out to those that remember music videos on TV), and even breaking and setting impressive records! This thread is a celebration of those impeccable album campaigns!
    The criteria:
The singles run must comprise of at AT LEAST four singles. The artist/band can be from any genre, any decade. You can post as many album eras as you like, but you must have ONE album era per post. Likes will be used to see how many people are in agreement with you! Please don't post music videos, as this will make loading the site very slow for some. The artist/band must be "popular", so try to refrain from posting obscure indie artists please

On December 28, 1983, shortly after his 39th birthday, Dennis drowned at Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, after drinking all day and then diving in the afternoon, to recover items he had thrown overboard at the marina from his yacht three years prior. -Source

Did we figure out a piece of the puzzle that is Lana?!

EDIT: There's also so many allusions to drowning and the ocean in Lana's work so it's kind of an interesting theory...

Your personal experience with the word doesn't invalidate what it means as a whole. At its roots, bitch is a sexist slur against women.

This Daniel Johnston cover will be in the short film. I don't know how many of you know this but Daniel Johnston & Gabriel Sunday had this film project on Kickstarter in 2013. One of the people that helped back the project, with $7,500., was Lana Del Rey. The prizes she received for backing the project was Daniel Johnston's Smurf blue Ukelele, some of his art, and her name in the credits of this film as an associate producer. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gabesunday/hi-how-are-you-a-short-film-starring-daniel-johnst/description
Since that time, I have been waiting for this short film to be released because I also backed the project, and it has taken over a year of the expected release date to finally get it. I received a message from Gabriel Sunday in the summertime saying that the film was finished and only waiting on some of the music to be finished. I am so glad Lana was brought onto this project in a more personal way. Well worth waiting for. I have forever been joking about Lana covering Daniel Johnston's music, and I always said she should cover (Something's Last a Long Time, The Story of An Artist, and Space Ducks). So this really is beautiful to finally hear. I am so excited to finally see this on 11.11.15.

Highly ironic song for her to cover though.

I fucking hate James Franco. I don't know what Lana see in him, if they someday become a couple, it will be the end of my life. He tries to have sex with a teenager, of 17 years old, and he have, in that moment, 31 fucking years old. Fuck, he's a freaking pedophile. I don't want him to touch Lana with his dirty and disgusting hands. I do not understand how there can be people who ship them and love them together.

Several music videos, a bunch of interviews, and a tour in support of Ultraviolence was "trolling" us? Seriously? You have to be a pretty thirsty entitled fan to have that perspective. Honestly, I think you're much closer to trolling everyone than Lana ever was.

If there's anything twisted here, it's the idea that selling 2 million copies worldwide can be considered a huge commercial flop (with the possible exception of overspending), I don't care who you are. There's hardly any artist that can sustain multi-million sale figures throughout their career. It's silly to call that "flopping" rather than the natural trajectory of a career. By your logic, any artist that has a world-beating breakout album is doomed to "flop" simply because they inevitably won't be able to endlessly reproduce sales at that level every time. Man, The Wall is such a flop because it sold way less than Dark Side. Bad was such a flop because it's no Thriller. Again, the albums we're talking about can only be considered "flops" if you have unrealistic expectations.

That's a somewhat selective interpretation of those figures. Let's face it, despite being called an EP, Paradise was essentially an album. Given that, another reading of these numbers is that they are back up a bit with UV and HM after a steep decline with Paradise from an unlikely to be repeated debut. Again, it's unrealistic to expect her to sell multi-millions even if she did it once. Selling in the neighborhood of a million is still pretty damn good. Certainly not "flopping" at least.

idk if its an unpopular opinion but I like lanas voice through a clear microphone like on BTD and Paradise better than through a crisp vintage microphone she used on UV and HM (it worked for UV but for HM is was a little overdone and didnt match the electronic beats)

Hi everyone, I'm going to try to replicate Lana's MTWBT headphones for my Lana Del Rebirthday (commemorating the first time I saw Lana in concert October 19, 2014, which was when I started becoming completely obsessed with Lana). I probably won't make them in time for my rebirthday but I will try for Halloween.

I figured I'll post a tutorial for anyone that would also like to be Lana on Halloween. I'm still waiting for the headphones to arrive from Amazon, so I'm going to update this main post as I go.

    Materials
    Headphones
Crayola Model Magic for making the frangipanis or you can order 4 foam frangipanis from ebay
    6-8 Pink fabric/paper roses
Green ribbon or fake long grass/leaves
    Pearl stickers or pearl beads
4 3D Star stickers or star beads
    1 Bee charm
    Glue
    Blue Paint

    Tools
Scissors Knife Pencil Small cup (I'm using an empty mini candle jar from Bath and Body Works) Paint brush Directions
Make the frangipanis (skip this if you have the foam ones). You can also watch Youtube tutorials by searching "make frangipani". You will need to make 4 flowers.
Make a teardrop shape stencil for the petals. Mine is cut from a foil wrapper. If you make if from paper, it will stick to the model magic, so use a thick plastic bag/foil packaging. Roll out the Model Magic. Trace your teardrop stencil on the Model Magic with a knife. Remove the stencil and cut the petal out. It's best to cut the petal out because it makes a nice smooth edge. Repeat 4 times to make a total of 5 petals. Pinch along the left side of each petal to make a raised edge. Smooth the outer edge with the side of a knife. Place the 5 petals in a semi circle. Pull the right side of the last petal under the left side of the first petal. Shape the petals to curve outwards. Place in a small cup to dry overnight. When dry, paint the middle of the flower blue. Glue a star into the middle of the flower. Wrap the head band of the headphones
Cut one piece of ribbon (we'll call this ribbon A) long enough to wrap around the headphone band from ear to ear. Cut another piece of ribbon (ribbon B) that is double the length of the headphone band plus an inch more. At the end of the left side of the headphone band glue ribbon B on the outside of the headphone band. Glue it more to the left so it's edge is along the edge of the headphone band. It should be in the direction parallel with the headphone band. At the left side of the headphone band, glue ribbon A on the inside of the headphone band so it's perpendicular to the headphone band. Wrap ribbon A around the headphone band until it reaches the right ear. Leave ribbon B outside of the wrapped headphone band. Glue the end of ribbon A onto the inside of the headphone band. On the loose end of ribbon B, wrap it with a bit of tape and cut the tape into an arrow. This will help you weave the ribbon. Weave ribbon B in and out of ribbon A. When you reach the right ear, start wrapping ribbon B back towards the left ear. Glue ribbon B down on the inside of the headphone band. Glue the flowers, pearls and bee onto the ears! (Almost done, yay!)

Position the front facing frangipani to your liking and glue it down. I wanted the red part of the headphones to be mostly covered. Glue the another frangipani facing the back. I put mine lower than the front facing flower so the top doesn't stick out behind the front facing flower. Glue the pink fabric roses in between the two frangipanis and cover the rest of the visible headphones with pearls and the bee on the left ear. Yay, now you can put on music to watch boys to! I will update with final product pictures once I'm done.
