    Azealia Banks

But biased about what? 'We' (Strokes fans) like some covers and don't like others, but almost unanimously didn't like this one.

Oh, I can assure you I'm not. Most Strokes fans I know were quite horrified, haha!

    Azealia Banks

I agree that she made it her own, I just don't think she did it in a good way. At all. To me, that song completely lost its charm in her version; she somehow managed to remove everything that made it great. That's an accomplishment in itself, I guess.
  4. Oh man, the memories that brings back! Haven't seen that movie in so many years... I used to watch it with my brother when we were both kids and I wanted a magic ring just like hers soooo much! Also, THAT CAR.
  5. Be honest, guys: how terrible would a racing jacket like Lana's look on regular people? I really love it BUT.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Owen Pallett and Real Estate did some OK covers as well, but the Austra one remains my absolute favourite.
  7. They're still technical categories. Credible or not, no one really gives a fuck about those. The VMAs are simply about popularity.

    Azealia Banks

I absolutely hated it. To me, this one and this one are good Strokes covers; the Azealia one was a complete musical massacre, imo.

Girl just got her first VMA nom - artist to watch 2013. Fans can vote for her here.
  10. Flop categories, tbh. America not valuing her enough once again?

    Azealia Banks

Dear Azealia, Stay the fuck away from The Strokes music. Kind regards, me
  13. Audio engineers, I'd guess? Maybe the instrumental part of her music was drowning out her voice and she asked to "turn down" her band?

    Girls

Oh yay, I was looking for this! The way I finally got into this show was kinda weird... At first I basically refused to watch it because ~hype (I know, I know), then I watched the pilot and didn't really like it / found the dialogue forced and try-hard, but then (I don't even remember why) decided to give it another chance and loved it. I'm halfway through season 2 at the moment. I read somewhere that the way people relate to / prefer some characters over others / absolutely can't stand this or that person can almost read as a Rorschach test; I don't know if that's true or not but it kinda made sense to me... I LOVE Jessa. Not in a "OMG she's such a free spirit, I relate to her sfm!!!" way, of course; I'm nothing like her and can definitely see how flawed she is, but I love her. Marnie irritates me most of the time and Hannah has her moments but is mostly an unlikeable character to me (interestingly, if I had to define myself using Girls' characters, I'd say I'm a mix of Marnie + Hannah with a few Jessa elements thrown in for good measure). Soshanna is annoying but endearing at the same time. And I really like Adam; he's fucking crazy but so vulnerable. And this is for sure one of my fave scenes from the show: I wish some of the more aggressive & borderline condescending feminists had this in mind more often...
  16. So she's yet another person who doesn't know the difference between Colombia and Columbia...

    Delicious vs. Big Bad Wolf
  18. I second the gerbil one, that was my first thought. Also, rumours involving Hayden Panettiere, Diana Jenkins and a Hollywood prostitution circle. Also, child abuse allegations. A complete mess. Oh, and the one that said Jules Casablancas and Courtney Love had had a one night stand LMAO - in this story, Meet me in the bathroom was supposedly about her & But Julian, I'm a little bit older than you was her response.

    Hannah Cohen

"Hannah Cohen, born in San Francisco in 1986, left home as a teenager, soon finding herself in New York and becoming over the next few years something of a muse to the city's art scene, posing for Richard Prince, Terry Richardson, David Salle, Will Cotton, and Ryan McGinley. Hannah also immersed herself in New York's music scene, working at the Village Vanguard, and privately she started teaching herself guitar and writing songs. Hannah's debut record, Child Bride (2012), was produced by Thomas Bartlett, aka Doveman, known for his keyboard work with artists like The National, Martha Wainwright, and Antony and the Johnsons, and also producer of upcoming records by Glen Hansard and Julia Stone. The core band is a small group of some of New York musicians. About her inspirations, she says: "For the past five years I have been mostly listening to Brazilian vinyl from the 60s and 70s. The classics like Caetano Veloso—his record Jóia is an absolute favorite of mine."" --- Yeah, I know what you're thinking - " Yet another model turned singer. Right. *roll eyes* ". Well, what can I tell you. I completely fell in love with her voice and beautiful & incredibly melancholic songs. She's been described as "Lana Del Rey without all the Hollywood", and I can kinda see why; if I had to describe her album in 2 words I'd say "summertime sadness", for sure. I think she's quite special and definitely worth checking out. Sadly, her début album seems to have mostly passed under the radar... Here are two of her official (and always gorgeous) music videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOoRREGelhE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9O3Yp6PYAk And here is a live performance of my favourite song from the album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZDuGlVpbAU
  23. Like I said, given the other verses I still think it could easily be a double entendre. OR. I could just be giving her lyrical depth too much credit.
