Mostly because of her controversial political opinions (I only know a little bit about that though since Sri Lankan politics really aren't my thing, but I know she's often been criticized by her own countrymen because of her political beliefs) and how she's not afraid to shock in order to spread her message / be politically incorrect / go against the opinion of the majority. She does it for something she truly believes in and fights for, and not simply as a marketing strategy to get easy publicity and pop star fame, and I really fucking respect that.

I see your point. I always thought Lana needs co-writers for the melody - as in, she only writes the lyrics (I've said before that I kinda think of her as more of a 'writer' than a musician) - while most of the others rarely write their own lyrics by themselves, and that's how I interpreted Jamie's words as well; of course I can't be sure about that on all counts.

"What's astonishing is that she's sort of a Jim Morrison." -- LMAO okay Jaime, okay.

She looks great on the cover, I'm digging the whole 90s inspired look. I really, really want her to ditch those extensions asap though.

I don't buy for a single second that American is about Barrie. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
Dude's white af, his skin certainly isn't 'golden brown'. He also doesn't seem like the type of guy who'd listen to Crystal Method or drives fast around LA flirting with random girls, he actually seems like the exact opposite of that.

And am I the only one who thinks Bel Air is simply about / inspired by Axl Rose? It's full of GnR references (run to heavens gates, sweet child of mine, idol of roses iconic soul) & this line - You've got a flair for the violentest kind of love anywhere out there - also fits. Besides, well, it wouldn't be the first time she wrote about him, would it?

I think it's just a reference to doing drugs...

Lucy's in the sky with ice tonight, Heaven knows I've tried to find a cure. Baby, if it's wrong I don't wanna be right, And if you ask again, I'll say "I'm sure."   The "Lucy's in the sky" reference doesn't really need any explaining, "ice" is slang for meth, "tried to find a cure" could mean 'tried to get clean', "and if you ask again, I'll say 'I'm sure'" could mean that the guy she's with is asking her something like 'are you really sure you want to do this?' to which she says 'yes, I'm sure'.   EDIT: re: "ice" - as everyone knows, the original song goes "Lucy in the sky with diamonds"; 'ice' can simultaneously mean 'expensive jewlery, diamonds' as well as the above-mentioned drug slang. It could be an intentional play with words / double meanings.   Another K-themed song, I'd assume? With all the mafia references and whatnot...

Someone's interpretation of BTD (mentioned in that OURS discussion board, where someone posted its original link). It's... interesting.

Well, that much at least adds up.

From an OURS discussion board, written back in 08:

"I am pretty sure his son's name is Jimmy too, no?
Some chick randomly messaged me on myspace, some 16 year old girl who goes to school with his son, she said."

"Jimmy's son is in fact named Jimmy. By the way, his son is 15 and his daughter, Zoe (pronounced Zoey), is 10 or 11."

There's also an interesting topic there called "...that Lana Del Rey song"; currently reading it.

Because I'm more of a fan of Lizzy / rawer-sounding Lana & disliked the overproduction in BTD & Paradise, and think some demos were actually superior to the 'finished' products (Diet Mtn Dew & Lolita come to mind, for instance). OTTR is one of my absolute fave Lana songs so I'm really looking forward to hear its rawer version.

Hey, she's the one who says her lyrics are '100% autobiographical'. And we're just taking what she says at face value because tbqh it's way more fun than the alternative.

They're all so tacky... and this one isn't even the worst one but it really made me cringe.

    Like, wtf?! Idgi.

I've often considered getting a music related tattoo (never about Lana though ) & even had a pretty precise idea once, but I'm kind of a commitment-phobe when it comes to most things permanent so every time I seriously considered having it done I always hesitated A LOT -- which is in itself a pretty good sign that I shouldn't get a tattoo, I guess -- and never actually got one.
The ironic part is, I'm pretty damn sure I wouldn't regret the tattoo's actual content in the future but I'm also pretty sure I'd grow tired of how it looked eventually. Long story short, I guess tattoos are not for me.
  12. DLT liked a post in a topic by elllipsis in Did Adele Copy Lana's 'Paradise' Wrist Tattoo?
Even though I'm not a fan of her music AT ALL, I have nothing against Adele personally - on the contrary, I actually kinda like her; her Oscar speech was wonderful and she seems, I don't know, genuine and down-to-earth.

I do think this tattoo is really unfortunate, though. I mean, it's sort of okay for fans to do that (even if I would never - I'd prefer getting something personal and unique but still related to the artist and what they mean to me rather than blatantly copying them) but for another celebrity to do that... it's just really tacky.

Of course I have no idea if she really copied it from Lana or not, but I do agree with those who say it's an awful lot of coincidence for it to be, well, just a coincidence.

@@Quentin Thank you for summoning me.

I love The Weeknd, I was completely blown away by House of Balloons when it came out! I loved all 3 mixtapes / Trilogy & my fave songs atm are High For This, House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls (especially the second part, like OMG!?), The Birds Part 1, XO / The Host & Kiss Land. The songs I like the least are those featuring Drake probably because I fucking hate Drake.

I also agree with Quentin, a huge part of his music's appeal is all the detail it has and most of it is lost during live performances, so they're usually kinda boring & lackluster when compared to the albums...

Love her & I think I kinda know what she's trying to say, but I don't think she really knows what punk rock means, to perfectly honest.

The most ridiculous part about the whole thing is that people already knew she disliked Gaga and they already knew there was an old diss song. Why they're suddenly acting like this leak is some kind of revelation is beyond me. (And here I'm talking about Gaga fans who also like Lana and are freaking out over this, of course, because who gives a shit about the others anyway.)

Common problem with most fandoms, tbh; they simply can't deal when someone doesn't like what they like. That's what makes them so annoying.
