California HAS to be about Barrie. It's sure as hell not about Francesco (the lyrics just don't make sense, and considering how they ended, I highly doubt she feels that much compassion towards him). I don't think anyone else from Lana's past is in the realm of possibility, unless she managed to keep it super private. I genuinely hope she and Barrie work it out; I actually really liked them together and she always looked so happy in the Summer Wine video.

I love what she did with Jack on NFR but I'm not sure if I'm happy that WHF will probably be another Jack-album. I think the collaboration with different producers always brought out the best of her (see Ultraviolence) and I'd love her to move on to someone else.

California is definitely about Barrie. You could tell by her face she was deciding what to say ... and in the end went with an answer vague enough to answer the question whilst still leaving some uncertainty.
 
Facts:
 
  She ghosted the subject ("I wanted to reach out but I never said a thing"). She ghosted Barrie. He was (brutally) dumped via an interview.
  "You said to a friend that you wish you were doing better" - they have lots of mutual friends (Jaime King, for example)
  She described Barrie as "dark". In California, the subject "has the blues".
  Barrie is from Scotland. Most people from the UK aren't acclimatised to warm weather, so him "hating the heat" makes sense.
  The song contains UV references ("Flipside" for example) - she wrote UV while she was with Barrie
  "If you come back to California" - so the person has at least BEEN to California, but more likely, they lived there at some point. Barrie.
 
And today she said "he's still in London". Barrie is from Glasgow, Scotland, but he definitely has lived in London and he goes there a lot; I've seen stuff on his insta stories. He may even be recording his album there.

I was happy she was nominated for LFL, but I never thought she would actually win.

I find it all really interesting, because I immediately thought of the Prince of Pasta when I saw the images in the glasses.
 
There's the wedding, a couple on the beach at sunset (she and Pasta did such a shoot), and a couple holidaying on a boat or near the sea ... and they holidayed quite a lot in Italy.
 
He is also the creative director of the company that made the video.
 
I would dismiss the images in the glasses as generic but I don't think so.
 
I'm not suggesting anything about her and Pasta; I really don't know what it all means. Maybe the rest of the video will shed some light.
 
I totally thought this song was about G-Eazy because he definitely thinks his poetry is good and I can imagine him being a little bitch and blaming the news, acting like a child, etc.

The new lyrics for BAR are welcome change to the song and show how mature she has become over the years. She no longer blames her lover solely for the failure of their relationship. She takes the same part of the blame and shows her sympathy towards her ex. He might be an asshole, a narciss  and a loser on surface. But she sees through him, his inner beauty. She wasnt strong enough to keep up with his mood before but she is strong enough to carry him now, to be his support Its really a nice change of perspective. From the weak hurt girl that needed to be carried by her man to the strong person that can be the saving boat for others.

something that i'm really glad critics aren't doing is talking about this album in relation to LFL because I could totally see them ripping this apart for being a step back from her happiness manifesto or whatever the fuck the media was trying to say about her in 2017 and 2018. Like obviously LFL feels quite forced and contrived after hearing this album

The whole albums makes me want to drive down the coast in California so badly. I wish I had funds to ever go there.
