this is more of the Lana I wanna see, her glam siren self (in attitude, visuals ain't quite there) singing seductively over a jazz piano, those deep luscious vocals bitch! I knew the bitch still had it in her why is she not singing like this on her actual recent released work? less breathy LA fermented vegan wheat grass spinclass singing thru paper vocals and more sensuous brooding dark 50's siren baby vocals pls!  

I agree Lana must have been inspired (obviously) by Blanche Dubois for Carmen (relying on the kindness of strangers) and I think she was also inspired by Holly Golightly, the main character of Breakfast at Tiffany's. I also see a bit of Scarlett O'Hara in that song as well.
 
Holly uses the word darling all the time. The liquor's top shelf might be inspired by one of the movie scene (check video below). She's known for her irresistible charm, her vivacious and bubbly personality, but she has a dark past. She is a sad, extremely confused and vulnerable girl. She's fooling everyone, specially her male admirers, by pretending she's having fun with them so she can make a living (they gave her $50 for the powder room, $50 for her cab…). In reality, she calls them rats and doesn't give a shit about them. She has the loveliest cartoon eyes. She was in her late teens. Diamonds are a symbol. She was living at night, getting back home at sunrise. She often uses French expressions in the movie as her old agent thought learning French would smooth out her redneck accent (the interlude is in French). We see her changing clothes and put on party dresses, applying lipstick in a cab, singing a song (Moon River).
 
It is not shown in the movie, but in the novella Holly is fond of marijuana (getting high for free) and she's also bisexual (the boys, the GIRLS, they all like Carmen).
 
Finally, I think she got inspired by the strip club scene in the movie. Watch the second video (the intro) then listen to Mermaid Motel (the intro). Edit: and look at the stripper dress... quite mermaidy (just realized it!)
 

 

Can Lana just stay single and be a girl's girl for a while? I feel like every relationship since Barry, when she breaks up the fillers get worse and the music gets messier and she just doesn't seem happy. I want her to work on herself and love herself and be happy by herself and with her friends and family first before she throws herself into a relationship expecting her other half to fill in the gaps of what she hates about herself

This, more than anything, sounds like you projecting your own experience of your mental illness on Lana. Especially since you're making such grand assumptions about her struggle with such little information on how she's actually approaching it. It's easy to assume that all we see is all that happens, but that's not true. Were you in her therapy sessions? Have you had an exclusive peek into her private diary that nobody else has?    
 
Let me make my position clear: I don't believe Lana has recovered from whatever trauma she experienced or whatever mental illness she might have. But I do believe her understanding of her mental illness has improved, and, as you have yourself explained, that is an important step towards being better able to deal with it. This is the growth I'm referring to

Having said that, this is pretty gross, and kind of in keeping with her obliviousness when it comes to politics that can't be summed up by a t-shirt slogan.

Because we knew Lana was a loose Catholic. We know she supports the LGBT community, she's clearly had sex before marriage etc so I highly doubt she conforms to all the traditional rules of Catholicism.
That's why we never had a problem with it. But her going to this church is both a stinger, and a disappointment because of what this church still stands for, even in this modern age where were supposed to be progressing.

An all time classic album. Even though I first heard it a couple of years late, it obsessed me for that whole (Australian) summer. And obsessed isn't an exaggeration - I couldn't physically choose any other record to play for about three months. It still makes me drive faster and talk louder any time it comes on.
