It goes deeper than that, though. Lana is constantly being snubbed, whether it be Billboard, the Grammys, the Oscars, the critics. It's not fair. It doesn't affect how I appreciate Lana's music but I'd love to see her get some due credit for once. She outsold two big-name male artists this past week without doing any promo. The facts speak for themselves, so for her to not get the title of a #1 album simply isn't fair and it's rooted in underlying issues with sexism in the industry and the way people with power and money abuse the system. I'm being dramatic, yes, but accolades like a #1 album mean something to an artist even if they don't admit it and it's what validates an artist and allows them to continue making music and high-budget videos.
It'd be different if it was actually close and their was no fraud and cheating involved but Lana earned that #1 fair and square, so she should get it. I won't justify a rigged, cheating system, especially in the defense of fucking Bleak Bill.

ok so i have a theory about heroin - since it uses the word aeroplane a lot i made the connection between the song and aviation off of sirens. Aviation was written while she was staying with her uncle and learning to play guitar so it's about her breaking away from her parents and wanting to become Lizzy Grant (i think) and it also mentions her getting high. So going back to Heroin, I think it's symbolic of Lana putting "elizabeth grant" and "lizzy" and "may" on an aeroplane to be forgotten. So it's her transition into the lana we know now who lives in california (topanga as heard in the song) and all her friends also go on the plane to california and leave their lives behind. "i'll probably stay another year" is her not wanting to completely let go of lizzy because she doesn't want to lose herself completely - "bad beginning to my new year" was the whole snl drama. finally her perspective changes and she's the one leaving in the plane and she's saying hopefully she'll be successful the next time she sees her dad. kind of a stretch but it's 2 am and i can't sleep lol

Meth is a huge problem here in Japan - you wouldn't be able to tell by the people that do it.

Unfortunately that includes many of my friends, some who are doing it weekly for years now, and some of them have the best skin that I am jealous. So while it "can foster cell aging and death" that doesn't mean that you use it somewhat regularly and you're immediately looking like a corpse.

My sister and I have our own house together and it's brutally hot out and my room is in the basement so she's sleeping with me and goes "can you play Lana's new album, it relaxes me so much..." and this is the fifth time she's begged me to play it. Also, so many of my cousins and friends have been texting me telling me how much they love the album. I could cry I'm so proud.

Lana is the only female artist with a number one album in both the US and UK this year, and third overall along with Ed Shitstain and Harry Styles

She said that she didn't want to create news headlines, so I can only imagine that one of the people referenced must've been Barrie. The entire song, even rewritten, sounds like it is written to the girl singing in Black Beauty. She got emotional talking about the "pop of color" in the lyrics "I keep my lips red", and we know how she said she was in a very dark time in her life back in 2012 - 2013, where she was desperate for even the slightest bit of color.

I take the pre-chorus about her chasing rainbows to be in direct response to the Black Beauty line "Life is beautiful/But you don't have a clue", where I always considered it to mean she was trying to show Barrie how beautiful life could be.

"There's no more chasing rainbows/and hoping for an end to them" > I've given up on the idea that helping you see the beauty in life will lead to us being happy together.

I didnt write about the first part because we've heard most of it besides a couple songs.

Coachella (Woodstock in my Mind) - 8.5/10 I love the message behind the song and appreciate the beats behind the lyrics. It seems a little unfinished and I enjoy that part of it. Sets a good tone for the second half lyrically, but is the last song of hard beats on the record.
God Bless America - 9/10 The guitar at the beginning is refreshing. The very "American" vibe I get from the first couple seconds is electric. The two gunshots after "God Bless America" is also a favorite part. Her tone "And all the beautiful woman in it" makes it seem like that part is a little secret. Like a hush-hush? Very patriotic and feminine. "Stand proud and strong like Lady Liberty shining on and on" she sings, wanting the ladies to know, they keep us strong. Overall, a great song, but not the strongest in terms of lyrics on the record. Musically, BTD reworked by an Indie artist... at its finest.
When the World Was at War We Kept Dancing - 9/10 The first verse and the little beat in the back is reminiscent of Born to Die and the first verse. The tempo change from the verses to chorus is so great, my favorite part. "Is it the end of an Era, is it the end of America" She sings in a way that she's trying to convince herself its going to be alright, but shes still unsure. Her pitch in the chorus is amazing. The chorus is the highlight of this song. Similar to GBA, a refreshing and new song, but not the strongest on the album.
Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems - 10/10 I love the piano in this. Also love her tone. Lyrically, I'm in total awe with this song. The melody, the instrumentation, everything is great. I was apprehensive about hearing a song with Lana and Stevie, but to me, their voices are so complementary towards each other. Her verse is VERY refreshing and sounds just like a Fleetwood Mac song back in the 70s. The pre-chorus after the 2nd verse where they're singing together is one of my favorite parts. The later end of the song makes me wanna cry, right after the bridge. They sound so desperate and sure of themselves. A standout and one of my favs on the record.
Tomorrow Never Came - 8.5/10 The Woodstock, Indie vibe is a standout on this record. Reminds me of Florida Kilos in a way. The chorus and her breathy tone makes the song great, along with Seans singing. I haven't paid too much attention to it. I know I would love it a whole lot more if I really tried. Another record highlight tho.
Heroin - 10/10 Ultraviolence tease. One of my favorites, if not, my absolute favorite song on the album. The instrumentation, the lyrics, the tone. SO dark and eerie. The beat in the chorus as she singings "Heroin" omg. "Its fucking hot, hot" this switch up makes this song THAT much better. She sounds so sad and angry, I hate it, but love it for the sake of the music. The last chorus with the layered vocals makes me cum.
Change - 9.5/10 Sounds like a literal swan song. Like she's saying goodbye to the Old Lana with this "change". I haven't paid attention to it lyrically that much, but I know its one of my favorites. Another eerie tone to it, much like its predecessor. The chorus sounds like a "war in her mind". She sounds sort of optimistic in this song. Could be political, but also could be personal. The sadest on the record.
Get Free - 10/10 Her best album closer yet in her career. The most upbeat song on the entire record. Refreshing, in the sort of way as if she's looking back on everything shes done so far. I love how the tempo progresses in the first verse, and picks up entirely in the chorus. A huge Lizzy Grant tease in this song. "Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off, but I keep riding the ride." I LOVE THIS. I've been mindfucked by this song.

The second half of the album is much better and original than the beginning. The first half in my opinion, is like Lana sticking to what she knows she could do. The second half is her showing us what she can do now. The record makes me question if shes as happy as she proclaims. It seems to have an underlying, VERY dark tone to it. It's very cohesive musically and lyrically, but the most confusing record I've ever listened to. After each listen, I ask myself, "What did I just listen to?" because it pulls you in being so cohesive, but it's very confusing and I can't tell you whats really confusing. This record is def my favorite by her so far. I'm excited to start finding the meanings of each song and understanding them inside and out.

If I kind of roll it around my head, Yayo and Get Free and probably some of her best work. Even though it's early it's such a beautiful piece. It kind of has a really sweet message of "I'm not there yet, but I want to take that direction" in terms of depression. It's kind of a good retrospective of all of her precious work and a good look into the future. It's really sweet and hopeful. Won't lie, she'll probably never get out of the habit of being a torch singer, but I hope she doesn't get desperate again like in Honeymoon (it was a beautiful album but some of those lyrics man, they're so sad and pathetic at points, she must have been in the darkest place, she sounds truly defeated on some songs).

Even the final minutes of Get Free sounds like being on the beaches of heaven. It's kind of similar to the part in Yayo where she talks about heaven being a dimly lit tunnel at night, except in Yayo is described while in Get Free there's a non-verbal audio interlude which is just perfect and describes her mind set beautifully.

Again, more dumb analysis but truly some of her best work is on LFL and I can definitely see a bridge from LG to LFL. Get Free is probably within Lana's top three of all time.

I think Yayo kind of shows the beginning of a relationship and Video Games is like the honeymoon period.
Yayo is all "take me away", "I want to spend my life with you", "I like the way you look" which is the kind of thoughts you have when a relationship starts (wanting to spend time/thinking about how far the relationship could go/aesthetics over personality)

Video Games is different ("open up a beer, get over here play a video game", "heaven is a place on earth with you", "tell me all the things you wanna do") which is more comfort (doing casual, homely things together/deep admiration for your other half beyond aesthetics/ wanting to know where you're going in the meantime rather than the long run and not worrying about where things may end).

It's not too far of a development but it's slight

/highly extra theory that's probably incorrect over

Yayo is her best song as it represents her work as a whole in my opinion. It has everything Lana and Lizzie in it. Beautiful references to American culture, drugs, daddies and her past scraping her life together. Even though the concept sounds stupid and cliche on paper it's actually so beautiful.

It's catchy, concise, not over the top and her voice is wonderful. It's her most raw piece live and the only one she still ops to play guitar with. It clearly means a lot to her and is the best summary of her work to date.

While not my favourite song of hers, you could definitely consider Yayo a magnum opus of sorts.
