i think this is embarrassing omfg. the grammys don’t owe anyone anything. they’re shit every year it’s no different every single year when we sit back and let them snub all of our favourite female artists. idk why artists let this one award show genuinely get under their skin, i think everyone’s social media outbursts today have been really embarrassing, not just the weeknd  :/

I like how Jennie was visibly amused when Kimmel mention Hogwarts as an analogy of the KPOP idol music companies.

What Teddy is wondering is something I’ve wondered before too, like, k-pop is literally western pop music but sung in Korean... why call it k-pop? Maybe because j-pop was bigger before and they just switched out the j for a k.
But yeah, Rosé is right, the trainee thing they have in Korea is probably the biggest difference.

same! I really loved too how I think Rosé said that the only difference between American pop acts and kpop is the amount of time they spend training. there's something in me that just...for some reason thrives knowing there's a literal pop bootcamp. call me crazy haha. 

I just finished watching the BP documentary on Netflix. It was pretty cool to be able to recognize footage from the start till today and their pre-debut days too, it reminded me of how long I’ve know of this group and their members. I also liked that they showed the darker sides of the k-pop industry, like, super hectic schedules, strict training (only two days off a month, poor things) etc.

Weeknd is under his own label, "XO" subsidiary of Republic Records, where the parent company is Universal Music
 
and Dua is under Warner Records [US and worldwide I think?] and Vertigo [which is under EMI and overall Universal Music/ Lana was signed with them Video Games-era] for the UK

So payola is still alive and thriving like some have tried to publicly say the last few years
this is so embarrassing.... the labels could get into legal trouble again if someone decides to take to to court. Ironically it seems that Interscope [Lady Gaga, Selena Gomes, Eminem, Lana del Rey] didn't partake in this scandal...

I wish Interscope would play the same game as other labels, though. They suck are promoting, and a little payola would go a long way. I mean if everyone else is playing dirty, so should Interscope.
 
On a related note, I'm not shocked that Dua has benefitted from payola.

Looks like blinks will prob elect You Never Know as their official fandom anthem or sth, jk. The lyrics is apparently about the harsh reality of kpop idols, which I observed is kinda extra harsher when it comes to BLACKPINK compared to other idol groups?

Some hours ago kpop twitter was about South Korea Nurse association demanding YG Ent to address the issue of Jennie wearing nurse uniform in the LSG mv.

It does look like they are targeting BLACKPINK, specifically Jennie on the daily.

So maybe that's why I guess BP phenomenon is particularly fascinating to me, cos similar to Lana, they come from privilege*, but they are essentially 'underdogs', you know what I mean?

I don't really observe how Japan's idol industry works, but I'd be looking forward to watch BP's upcoming Netflix documentary.

*only know Rose's father and sister being lawyers in Aussie, Lisa's stepfather being a chef, Jisoo and Jennie's father rumored to be CEOs or sth
