Thisssss!! It's not the "woke" or political topics itself which bother me in the majority of Love + Fear songs, PTP and Man's World - it's the way the message is conveyed through the surface-level statements. Like "there were riots in America", "Harvey Weinstein went to jail"... it sounds like a listing of trending topics without any exploration, commentary or lyricism. It's not cleverly worded nor has any value as poetry. That's why it all sonds fake as if Marina was tying too hard to give off that vibe of Woke Feminist Icon (C)
 
I actually really liked Purge the Poison as a song, it's catchy, sounds like TFJ and Froot's lovechild and the production is fresh. The video is great too, I love the ruby slippers and hope to see more Oz references in other visuals. Both of the released songs mention witches as a metaphor for "inconvenient" women, so it'd be great if Marina used some characters of the setting to further develop this comparison

I think what I miss the most, and I’ve thought about this a lot, is that in her other albums, especially Electra Heart, she was making societal criticisms but she did it in a way that really made you think. Like the average person would hear primadonna and think “oh catchy fun bitchy pop song” and it worked that way on a surface level, but for those that really looked into it, it obviously was satire. I miss the more hidden pretty on the surface but dark deep down kinda thing. I love her obviously! I just want less in your face and more “make me think in that special Marina way.” Idk I just thought Electra Heart was so much better than people let on. She really studied women from the fifties and sixties and nailed it with these over the top descriptions of them. Not to be that fan that can’t move on from EH, but I just miss it. Marina stuck out to me because of how you could easily bop to it but you could also really analyze it. I low key think it was more of an effective way of getting a point across. Electra Heart really made me think about materialism and roles and identity concepts without saying “This this and that” Idk. Rant over! But I miss that magic charm. I loved it. I loved the smoke and mirrors of it all. I loved analyzing it. I still study that character and rewatch the videos to see if I missed anything. I just loved everything about it. It was the perfect concept album. Everyone gives Lana credit for changing alternative sad pop but I swear Electra Heart was a huge part of that too. (And TFJ, and FROOT, too.) I heard in an interview when she said “they wanted me to be more commercial so I said okay, I’ll do it, but I’ll do it as a different person.” Amazing. 
 
 
TLDR: I miss the Marina that made you think “there’s more to this than shes letting on” or “this isn’t what it seems.” The songs that could be played on the radio and no one but some people would listen and think “oh this is actually mocking people who really act like this I.e primadonna.”

The Britney line is bad AND unnecessary 
 
I don’t think she did it on purpose, she was just trying to comment on social trends in her own (bad) way, but it came out really weird and it’s terribly written either way 
 
 
A good comparison is the “He hit me and it felt like a kiss” line tbh
This one is problematic too for obvious reasons but unlike the Britney one it’s very poetic and elicits a very vivid and somewhat poetic image 
 
 
Like if the Britney line was good it could make up for the fact that it’s clumsy and in bad taste but it has no redeeming value whatsoever

It’s amazing that society is slowly becoming more sensitive to mental health issues and I know that PTP is in Britney’s defence but that line was harsh. Britney’s breakdown was a personal tragedy where she almost lost her life, almost leaving her kids motherless. She’s still facing the consequences for her breakdown to this day and still gets abuse from it. It’s not appropriate to write about it in such an on-the-nose way especially when it’s common knowledge (and common sense) that Britney doesn’t like people bringing it up.
What if Marina was writing a song about how horrible depression is and she wrote “?Kurt blew his brains, leaving his kid fatherless, la la la la la ?”. Or what if she was writing a song about the effects of the media and wrote “? Amy, drunk and anorexic, la la la ?”. You just don’t write about things like that. Maybe if it was more metaphorical or abstract then it’d be alright but not so in your face.
Obviously, I don’t think that Marina should get any hate. I know her intentions were pure but it was just another tone-deaf moment imo

It's nothing "problematic" as far as I remember. But her takes on mental health, anti-capitalism etc. tend to be worde in such a dramatic way that are located somewhere between "woke rich white macha mom" and "pretentious 14yo tumblr teen". It's not the essence of her messages, it's the "I'm so holy and wise" way they tend to come off.
 
Absolutely! I love the visuals and I really love how there are peaks of her previous works in all of this.

Marina's lyricism be like: 

PTP is everything I wanted from her. I really like it. The lyrics are a little bit too on the nose for me but it's quirky and crazy like TFJ meets FROOT. I rather have crazy sjw Marina than the boring and bland L+F Marina. 

The power this new era has. 2 singles are so much better than Laxative+Fugly 

I LOVE the shots of her in the water, and the ones with her hair down, she looks so young like straight out of TFJ era

y'all really hurt yourself when you listen to leaks and then get disappointed when theyre not included on the final project
 
anyway im excited for a ten track album. l&f had 16 tracks but everyone hated that
froot had 11.
 
looking to be a quality over quantity type project and i couldn't be more excited! 
the title is fire, the cover is gorgeous and i'm loving the music videos and all visuals coming from this era.

I've always admired MARINA's art direction because of its coherence so I definitely had to do this edit.

I can't believe she just released her first song in 6 YEARS!!!

This is so much better!!! What is disappointing for me is the fact that in the album artwork Marina looks clearly unedited whereas on the PTP cover she looks almost futuristic and the picture is so polished almost like Hannah Diamond's work with XCX World which is next level and it brings me a feeling of empowerment lol idk 

I love Purge The Poison, such a cute bop. So much better than L+F which was a huge decline in quality and void of any personality whatsoever. She's finally back to her TFJ sound and I'm 100% here for it! The post-chorus is def my favorite part of the song. So many memorable hooks. The lyrics on the verses are kinda horrible though.
 
But overall, I think this is a step in the right direction. I hope the album won't disappoint.

ok forgot to say when i was younger i used to love guns and roses and was shocked to find so many ppl dislike it, i still love it and idk why people hate it
