Idk if this has been brought up yet but do you think Lana going into ~the light~ in two very similar white dresses in Born to Die and Tropico have something to do with one another? Maybe it's a way of ending the Born to Die era or she just happens to be talking about death in both songs so she choose to portray it the same way twice without any meaning behind it, maybe both Bel Air and Born to Die are about the same person?

Don't do car payments guys. Buy a car that you can afford to pay for with cash, even if that means a $1000 beater. Even ol' evil buys used cars. The only things you should ever borrow money for are a house or your education. #EvilFinancialTips

Mildly know the first two and would for lack of anything better to do but I better not even check out the rest because it's far too expensive to even consider...

As if that's a dilemma I would kick Lorde to the curb in a second. Lana being Satan in this scenario?

I even had a friend ask if I wanted to go but LMAO they must be the only festival on earth to not do single-day passes. $375 minimum. That's like eight textbooks or one car payment or a bed I'll have to buy when I move. Good luck everybody else.

I sometimes do this for my own advantage. Then I think too much and get disappointed with the final result. Like I wanted Lana's next album to be stripped with a cappellas opening and closing it and ocean-themed and now she's working with David Guetta

    Overall rating: 7/5
    First impression: um what
    Impression now: wow what
Songs I play along with it: brite lites, the twin peaks theme, trash, everything else
What I like about it: its beautiful, deranged, and defies any type of categorization (even in the context of BTD). also, i love it when lana 'raps'
What I dislike about it: the fact that i like it so much
    Favorite lyrics:

My old man is a tough man
But he got a soul as sweet as blood red jam
And he shows me, he knows me
Every inch of my tar black soul
(although i personally prefer "with every inch of his tar black soul" )

    I'm your little harlot, starlet
    Queen of Coney Island
    Raising hell all over town
    Sorry 'bout it!

    Boy you're so crazy baby
I love you forever, not maybe

Colors/images that come to mind: black, blood red, sepia tones, and maybe a hint of blue

Interpretation: i dunno. this song is kind of complicated, i think? it isn't even just the lyrics. the melodies, the intonation, the constant shift in her tone, its all beautiful and somehow grotesque? there's just something very seedy about this song? maybe its cause she sounds like a squeaking sex doll. reminds me some kind of upscale boudoir in the 60's, where mafia men would go to fuck pre-teen hookers. i don't think there's really any story to it all, i think its just a bunch of typically discomfiting ~lana-isms all mashed into one song. it probably explains why visuals are such an important component, and why they augment your perception and/or understanding of her music. i mean, there's nothing about this song that's overtly disgusting. there's nothing really all that creepy or disturbing until you really think about certain components and then try to attach some kind of visual to it. i think this song is a pretty clear example of why she's always drawing comparisons to david lynch. images of hideous, disfigured creatures licking their lips at strippers and plastic barbie dolls wouldn't make sense if the song weren't somehow, almost subliminally fucked up. maybe cause it seems to be all about her superficial preoccupation with the voyeuristic gaze of men. half of the song is about her man 'watching' her, but yet she claims its ~true love, even though there's not much else to suggest anything that resembles "love". its like all she can do is smile real pretty because she's "tar black" and dead on the inside, so the beauty and the smiles are all that she can offer. i guess the brite lites footage fits well in that context, when she waves and grins at the end before it all slides off her face a split second later. perfect, plastic, dead-eyed beauty queen and her fucked up schemes to extort money and lust from the men that surround her -- i guess that's what its all about? lel

I like Off to the Races a lot, it's one of my favourite songs on Born to Die, I think it's one of the best examples of Lana's "gangsta Nancy Sinatra/lolita lost in the hood" image. She's talking about crime and drugs in a very luxurious setting but in a gangster way. Like, her guy is drinking Cristal, wearing a gold chain and she mentions Vegas a few times. I like that she's not an innocent little girl being taken advantage of by a criminal but she has a bad past as well.

I don't really like her using the "Light of my life, fire in my loins" line in this, just like I don't like her using "heavier than heavenly" in On Our Way, it just sounds like she's using phrases she read somewhere that she thought sounded nice and wanted to use herself, it kind of loses its meaning to me.

The lyrics sounds fictional to me, like she wanted to write a story of how she wanted her life to be like, being in love with a gangster, being a beautiful badass, committing crimes while living at he Chateau Marmont. Maybe she was in a relationship with a small time criminal (like a drug dealer maybe) but I don't think it was nearly as bad as she says in the song.

My favourite lines are "Swimming pool glimmering, darling / White bikini off with my red nail polish / Watch me in the swimming pool / Bright blue ripples / You sitting sipping on your black Cristal, yeah" because I love the imagery and I like how consistent she is with certain phrases like "glimmering by the swimming pool" among others.

I also love "I love you forever, not maybe / You are my one true love / You are my one true love" because Lana's way of completely devoting herself to one man is something I like a lot about her. When she falls in love, she falls hard and she devotes all of her love to that person and she'd die for them and I don't see that too often (which is why Your Band Is All the Rage is one of my favourite songs by her, it talks about that exact thing). A lot of singers may write about hopelessly falling in love with one person and wanting to die for them and stuff like that because it sounds beautiful and makes them sound romantic but then they break up over the littlest thing (I think you know who I'm talking about....) but Lana's a ride or die, whether you fail or fly~

maybe she's gotten over wanting to be dominated. all of her other boyfriends were older and "kind of" bad boy types, maybe she's learned from those relationships not working out

I really love On Our Way, I think it's a great example of one of the main reasons why I love Lana. She's not really a genius poet, singer or guitar player (heh) but her lyrics are extremely personal. And not only because of how much she opens up in them but how much personality they show. I don't think a lot of songwriters could get away with writing about Chevrolets all the time or picking up cheap lip gloss form K-Mart but I like it with Lana because I know that's her whole style and every time she mentions little things like that I feel like I'm getting to know her more and more. This probably one of the reasons why I don't like people covering her songs, it just sounds weird hearing some random girl on the internet say things only Lana would say. I think there are a lot of musicians who are either great poets or who have mastered their instrument but I'll never be nearly as invested in them because they don't show any personality in their songs even if they objectively are talented.

I’ve just listened to this song for the first time in a while since it leaked and I’ve finally formed together my complete theory of its meaning. I believe this song is very influenced by Barrie, more specifically, his battle with depression. From Barrie’s lyrics, tweets, and dark influences I think it’s obvious that he is struggling, or at least has at some point in his life, struggled with depression.  Here’s my interpretation:
