what would you guys want to see more and less of on this album? personally,

more: psychedelic guitars and psychedelic atmosphere overall, venice bitch and ultraviolence/west coast style
less: piano-based songs. i really enjoy them, but i think we've had plenty on NFR and i'd like to see it switched up!

this is all so interesting and def opens up a lot of conversation!! thank you for this @PARADIXO!!

def a few surprises in the ranking, and a few robberies. my thoughts:

Sooo happy to see West Coast as #1!!! One of my fav Lana songs EVER and without a doubt some of her objectively best work!! I'm definitely surprised but thrilled to have it there. Video Games is my fav Lana song and in fact my fav song of all time, but I figured it was gonna be robbed of a high placement bc of overexposure for the hardcore fans. V v v glad it's top 5!! As an Art Deco stan I am THRILLED by its placement!!! #28 is amazing considering what a random deep cut it is. I was expecting like, low 80s or something. Also YESSSSS at Salvatore being in the top 20!!! Another one of my favs that I always considered to be really underrated. Glad Born To Die placed in the top 10 as well. I know we're all sick of hearing Lana perform it live and it's such an obvious mainstream track and blah blah but honestly, what a banger and what a way to capture that entire era. Poor LFL... this thread really brings into perspective just how much forgettable filler it had. That being said, it has brought into light some interesting ideas about objectivity vs subjectivity for me. For example, When The World Was At War is one of my fav Lana tracks because I just love how breezy and lackadaisical the chorus is, it gives me really soft summertime vibes, but I always figured most other fans wouldn't share my perspective and would more or less ignore it and it seems I was right. It's probably very forgettable for most, and objectively not a very exciting or enduring song. Still love it tho  DAYGLO REFLECTION DESERVED SOOOO MUCH BETTER, a solid 10/10 song for me Sad to see Smarty so underrated, it's one of my fav AKA tracks. It's cheerful but twisted, sarcastic and sassy, a little taboo and always seducing. Black Beauty really shocked me. I know it's a fan fave, but #2?? Really?? Can't argue with opinion I guess but as much as I like the song it doesn't seem deserving of that spot to me. I know we like to clown her live performances of OTTR lmao but yeaaa it's a fkin banger. Everything that was fun about the BTD era (or I guess just the pre-NFR Lana) in one track: chaos, love, tragedy, drama, wit, high energy.

    AS IT FUCKING SHOULD.

West Coast is a fucking masterpiece probably the first and only Lana Del Rey song I've been obsessed with from the actual first listen. This song is just on a whole other level and has yet to be outmatched by Lana, her most atmospheric song perhaps. It's also, in my honest opinion, her best promotional single ever released. I can't believe she did that. The production is fucking perfect and pristine.

Everything from: the instrumentals, actual properly recorded hazy bass and guitar riffs, her brilliantly layered vocals, the subtle hitches in her voice, the dreamy and ethereal way she sings:"your love, your love, your love" before the now iconic tempo shifts, the beautiful and languorous 12 strings guitar, the way she sings those sensual, yet contemplative lyrics, the backing vocals that sound like a fucking mermaid call AND the sorta Kill Bill siren that comes in during the second chorus almost like a second voice to add to the already dramatic, melancholic and intoxicating feeling of the song. The chorus just keeps on going in crescendo only to end quickly and abruptly leaving you feeling punch-drunk and wanting more: THEIR FUCKING MINDS. Every time I listen to this song at around 3:20, I kid you not, I lose all sense of self.

    Dan Auerbach is a fucking G E N I U S of a producer and his input on Ultraviolence is L E G E N D A R Y and boundary pushing for Lana! Finally some taste on LanaBoards!

What I'd like to see more and really hope she continues to do is the coherence and consistence in the lyrics. Since Honeymoon, she's putting out projects that reference themselves throughout the tracks. On Honeymoon, you have the time travel thing, even in the production. On Lust for Life, the songs all take place nearby black beaches, and Norman songs tell a day-in-the-life story and there are lyrical sections on the record, e.g Mariners-Venice-Fuck It, Bartender-Happiness-Hope.

deffff agree!! particularly the point about song structures. we didn't even have bridges or proper outros on many of NFR's songs, so their structures, at times, could get repetitive

I read the Rolling Stone piece with Lana and Elton John the other day and she said she wishes to leave 10 year old songs behind and play something new... this is her chance to actually do what she said she wants to. Because she won't change the setlist on the remaining NFR! tour, and I think she absolutely needs to play newer songs. And if she says she wants to... what's stopping her??
