I have written this before, but I think Jimmy G was a minor character in her life, as far as a real relationship was concerned. I think she developed a crush on him after meeting him at clubs etc., and as she said in some interview, she was impressed by his rock-star credentials, but realized later that he was only modestly famous. I think the more substantial relationships were with K, and MM. As far as songs are concerned, many of the early songs are about K, while the majority of the later ones are about MM (obviously she refers to both of them in some songs). Jimmy is the inspiration of only a few songs but she intentionally confuses matters by choosing BS for two of the videos, even though the character in Blue Jeans or VG or BTD has nothing to do with what we know of JG. Instead all the three songs of the trilogy seem most closely based on MM's character, with aspects of K's criminality thrown in, but mixed in with JG's looks (tattoos).

Tried to resist getting into this thread, but finally gave in. Here are some things that bug me about Lana.

    1. Her lack of effort in preparing for live performances. In particular not using backing singers (given that all the songs in BTD have layering and loop back vocals), and inconsistent use of ear monitors.
    2. Her using the exactly the same list of songs in exactly the same order for all of her concerts was really irritating (I attended two of the NY shows and felt like I was watching exactly the same show). Just changing the order of songs (and preferably cycling in one new song) would have introduced some spontaneity and made the shows more exciting.
    3. I find her reluctance to do encores irritating, and really do not understand her philosophical resistance to it.
    4. I really do not like her smoking. We know that smoking can destroy your voice and as a singer that is really stupid.
    5. I think she has taken the mystery aspect of her background a bit too far, particularly as it leads her to trip up on facts e.g. her birthdate.
    6. Not being sufficiently thoughtful and speaking in similar clichés in multiple interviews.

On the other hand I have no problem with her appearance and I think she looks her age (saw her up close at the concert). I think constant dyeing may not be good for her hair but I don’t know much about such things. I also don’t think she had surgery on her face, and the reason her face looks different now is that she has lost significant amounts of weight (maybe when she was on the maple syrup/coffee diet in London), and the reason her lips look plumper is that she uses cayenne pepper. I am amazed at the number of songs she has written, and find the lyrics intriguing and interesting. Most amazingly, I have not been so smitten with an entertainer before, and I find her endlessly fascinating.

Actually there is another hint that her relationship with Mr. Campbell may not have been completely kosher. In one of the interviews in Evil's piece she says that she was in his car when he played her the Biggie song. Having attended such a school myself, I find it unusual that a female student would take a ride with a male teacher. Not saying it can't happen for innocent reasons, but unusual in a boarding school, specially in 2003.

    My timeline:

    K: 1999-2004, 2004 spent in Alabama
Van Wilson: A&R 5 points, 2006 met him at the WLSC 2006, probably a short fling.
Jimmy G: 2007/2008. I think it was also platonic, and more driven from Lana's side. Probably covered the period she was at the trailer park in NJ
Mike M: Met him first for the interview at Arlene's Grocery in February 2009. With him for 2009, and early 2010 (dated by tweets), but I guess he did not want her to pursue her music anymore, and they broke up (lyrics of Afraid really encapsulate their break-up). The guy rebounded quickly to the woman he got married to in October 2010. I think many of her songs deal with this relationship and the break-up.

Reeve Carney, can't place him in the timeline, maybe 2008 after JG.

I don't think Lana has had many relationships. She has said in multiple interviews that in real life she is very quiet, lonely, does not talk much, and therefore continues to feel very strongly about her main relationships (K and MM), because few people really understand her. I think the rings she wears is significant, particularly the one that covers both fingers, because I guess that indicates her eternal feelings for two men. I just hope she can move on at some point, and find someone (I hate thinking of her lonely and alone), although any boyfriend would have to learn to live with the ghosts of two people in the room, K and MM.

thanks evil! i think it's pretty likely that he's referring to her national underground show, because, although his comment is a bit belated, it matches a certain timeframe...her voice haunted him for four days in which he doubted whether to contact her, or perhaps the delay in posting his message was because he was looking for her facebook page? speculation aside, it fits

I found this post more interesting. This was the first contact between MM and Lizzy, and I guess led to the interview and their relationship.

As I've alluded to previously on LanaBoards, and mentioned on my covers-themed Lana Del Reydio show, I've been sitting on some information relating to Mike Mizrahi since June. I sat on it for a long time because I soon became aware of their relationship and I don't feel it's appropriate to dig into Lana's personal relationships with people who are not otherwise public figures, especially naming names, unless there's a clear song reference. And even though I found information of legitimate interest to fans, I didn't know of a way to share it without pointing people in his direction. But since their relationship has already been discussed quite extensively, I now feel there's no harm in revealing the information I found.

Lana has an actress profile on IMDb under Lizzy Grant (I). It lists three films she was supposedly in, all of which take place in NYC and were filmed there. Two of the films, Ho's and Mo's and Mr. Finch are short films directed by Michael L. Mizrahi.

A quick Google search turns up his Youtube account, IamMikeMizrahi. Both films appear to uploaded to this account in their entirety, each split into two parts.

    Ho's and Mo's

    Mr. Finch

The IMDb page for Ho's and Mo's shows Lizzy Grant playing a character named Gina. But neither her nor her character are listed in the film's end credits. If you watch the whole thing, you'll see that she's not in it. However, take a look at the lone comment at the bottom of the Youtube page for Part 1. UhaulJoe (one of Lana's YouTube accounts) writes "Love this movie!!"

The IMDb page for Mr. Finch shows Lizzy Grant playing a character named Katie Finch.
Again, neither her nor her character are listed in the film's end credits. Based on the age of the Mr. Finch character, if she were to play a Katie Finch, she'd probably have to be his daughter, but there's nothing about that in the plot.

The third movie listed on the Lizzy Grant (I) IMDb profile is White Irish Drinkers which is a feature length film. Lizzy Grant is supposed to have a small role playing a character named Diane. Guess who IMDb lists as a location manager for this film? Yep, Michael L. Mizrahi. Looking through his IMDb profile and other online profiles, it's clear his main profession is as a location scout/manager. (A child actor with a decent IMDb resume named Regan Mizrahi has a larger role in the film, but looking at his Wikipedia page-- yes, this kid has a Wikipedia page-- I don't think he's related. "Son of an actress and a doctor." Although, I supposed it's possible the doctor is not his biological father.) Again, there's no Diane in the movie.

However, I checked out the film from the library and I'm 90% sure I spotted her as an extra. I showed these snapshots to Maru and CalendarGirl back in the days of LDR.FM, and they were 100% certain is was her. She's in the far right of the frame:

    Here's one CalendarGirl took:

Now before you rush out to buy White Irish Drinkers to complete your Lana collection I should tell you that it looks like kind of a shitty movie and those are the only frames of the entire film that she's in. It rivals those vocal samples I found on that Tamarama song in terms of insignificance.

But WTF is going on here? My suspicion is that this was an exercise in resume padding. Possibly to try to secure roles in other films. Perhaps Poolside, the Rex Arrow film, or

I also suspect that the Knocks from the Underground review he wrote may have been a friendly or planted interview. (It wouldn't be the first. The Index magazine interview was done by Brea Tremblay, another musician who played at the same Songwriter's Hall of Fame New Writer's Showcase and was also mentored by Bob Leone.) I suspect this based on the fact that they were supposedly together two years (according to a source extremely close to the situation ) in conjunction with the fact that a
was uploaded to his YouTube account in November 2010 means they had to have been living together at least a couple months prior to the February 2009 Arlene's Grocery show he reviewed, unless their living together overlapped his marriage, which I doubt, or he married the other woman almost immediately after they broke up and the source is exaggerating the two years time frame somewhat. Although, this Facebook post, which predates that show by only a few weeks, sure doesn't sound like they were living together yet.

I don't know. It's all very strange. But if they were living together at the time of that interview, it means she might have had more control over its content.

    Heaven is a great word

    by Dallach, Christoph

The pop-superstar Lana Del Rey, 26, about disfavour, the passion of social workers and the happiness that lies within a christmas carol "I just have to write 'Shut up' somewhere and Millions of people think it's great. I find that creepy."

Lana Del Rey: I'd like to ask you something beforehand: Do you like my music?
KulturSPIEGEL: Yes. Why do you ask?
Lana Del Rey: Oh thanks, thank you, that's surprising. Most journalists hate my songs. Believe me, I speak from experience, because I've been insulted extensively this year.
KulturSPIEGEL: Nonetheless, your album "Born to Die" became on of the bestsellers of this year. Do you have any idea why you polarise like that?
Lana Del Rey: It's a mystery to me. Maybe the thing is that once in a blue moon someone appears in Pop with whom many can't do anything with and recently, that's been me. Then that works like "whispers down the lane": Some writer spreads a little, weird, mean story about me which is carried further and keeps increasing in lunacy and malice until it doesn't have to do anything with me anymore.
KulturSPIEGEL: You've also been heavily criticised as a pretty marionette of cunning music managers. Would that have happened to a man?
Lana Del Rey: I've been approached with the alleged misogyny a lot but that's not what it's about in my case. I think that's something personal. My songs which I really do write myself, are very intimate and because such feelings seem shady to a lot of people, they conclude that I have to be a marionette. But that just illustrates their helplessness.
KulturSPIEGEL: Is the melancholy in your music artistically arranged or a case for the therapist?
Lana Del Rey: Neither. There's always been a melancholy in me, call it desire. I was four or five when I was sitting on the doorsteps of my parents' house and lingering for a place that was somewhere different. Ask my mother if you don't believe me. This feeling has been accompanying me my whole life. But I don't suffer. I would rather say that I've learned to come to terms with my sadness. But there have been times where I wasn't doing well. Luckily, I have overcome these dark years. The memory of those years inspire my songs now.
KulturSPIEGEL: In an interview, you once talked about death as "dark paradise". Are you serious about that?
Lana Del Rey: Yes, death and paradise are are intertwined to me. After death, I expect something that is very serene and calm. You could already call that paradise. It is so loaded with meaning. I just love the word "paradise". I even tattooed it on my hand. "Heaven" is also a great word, or "exotic".
KulturSPIEGEL: But does one have to tattoo a word onto your hand because it sounds nice?
Lana Del Rey: Of course! I love meaningful words. I tattoed the names of my favourite authors, Whitman and Nabokov, on my arm. Every time I look a that I remember that life can be great.
KulturSPIEGEL: What's the difference between Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, which is your real name, and Lana Del Rey, your pseudonym?
Lana Del Rey: Nothing. We are one. I just thought that this name fits my music better. It's exotic and arcane. But when I spend time with my friends, I don't behave any different than now when I'm in a hotel suite and talking to you as Lana Del Rey.
    KulturSPIEGEL: Do you feel underestimated?
Lana Del Rey: Why should I? Just because many American journalists can't stand me? My album is a multi-million bestseller. I have even won awards. Only in my home country, the USA, that are the inspiration of all of my songs, one doesn't know how to treat me. That's also why I moved away from there and why I live in London now.
KulturSPIEGEL: What would you have done if you wouldn't have had any success as Lana Del Rey? Was there a backup plan?
Lana Del Rey: Music was my backup plan. A hobby. I worked as a social worker in New York for many years. I had been working at a homeless shelter and rehabilitation centres for alcoholics and drug addicts since I was 18. Music was the luxury after that for a long time. I'm great at getting people in need their social security numbers and -cards back. That's my true passion.
    KulturSPIEGEL: Hard to believe.
Lana Del Rey: Just ask my parents and siblings. They will confirm all of that. When I came to New York, I immediately got to know a few people that were caring. I came to New York to get to know cool musicians and authors. I never found he poets that I had dreamt of that typed sensational novels into typewriters in breathless nights. The only passionate people that I met in New York, were social workers. And that's where I stayed, worked during the day and made music alone at night with my guitar.
KulturSPIEGEL: And how did you get to your record deal?
Lana Del Rey: I took part in an amateur-songwriter-contest. I didn't win. But one of the judges had a little label and offered me a record deal and a producer. I took the pseudonym of Lizzy Grant and recorded an album at night for seven months that was shelved for two years in the hope that a bigger company would acquire the record. But that didn't happen. The songs were dark, not suited for a wide audience. Besides, the back-and-forth of the music managers was tedious: people that first tell you you're brilliant think you're missing something one week later. I then came to terms with not making any music. Except just for myself. I produced video clips with friends which I put on the internet myself. Just like "Video Games" with which I got myself a record deal after all.
KulturSPIEGEL: Is it true that you grew up without a TV?
Lana Del Rey: Even though there was a TV in the living room of my parents' house, it wasn't connected to the cable network, it was just a display for video films. There were normally connected TVs in my father's and mother's rooms on which I was allowed to watch cartoons as a child. But only rarely. My parents thought that TV was too overtaxing for me, that it impressed me too much. They were probably right. When I saw something interesting on TV as a child, I would parrot them for days after that which scared my parents so much that they took the family TV from the network when I was 7. I wasn't allowed to watch TV normally until I was 14. Back then, I used to sit in front of MTV 24/7 and inhale everything I saw on there.
KulturSPIEGEL: The video to your song "Video Games" has been clicked on nearly 50 million times on YouTube. Where would you be without the internet?
Lana Del Rey: I have no idea, I've asked myself that. The internet is something abstract that I probably haven't understood until now. Who are all of the people that are seeing my videos? I know neither them nor their faces which makes my success seem surreal.
KulturSPIEGEL: Do you read the comments on YouTube?
Lana Del Rey: Sometimes. You have to be careful otherwise you'll go crazy. Sometimes I'll react to something. I'll write a comment, ordinarily, under my real name. That will set off excitement on the internet. I just have to write 'Shut up' somewhere and Millions of people think it's great. I find that creepy.
KulturSPIEGEL: You're badmouthed even worse on the internet. Are you hardened now?
Lana Del Rey: No, and I'l' never be that ironclad. Of course I know that one shouldn't take vulgarities like that personally. But sometimes it takes a while to become conscious of that fact.
KulturSPIEGEL: Do you still feel the need to google your name?
Lana Del Rey: Earlier, before I became famous, I did that a lot. I only do that rarely now. A year ago, nobody was writing anything about me so the googling was relaxed. Now, it scares me more. The internet is full of aggressive people. I don't even want to know how my new record "Paradise" is being teared to shreds these days on the internet. But in a few weeks, the curiosity will probably overcome me.
KulturSPIEGEL: Do you use social networks?
Lana Del Rey: As to Twitter and Facebooks, I pulled myself back privately for a long time. I only use the networks as a marketing tool. When I'm bringing out a new record, I'll upload a few photos. Nothing more. I'm more interested in other aspects of the internet. For example, I'm planning to found a little foundation. For that kind of work, the internet is great. We want to encourage thinkers with up to $200,000 - people that care for the sustainability of this planet or are improving the usability of social networks.
KulturSPIEGEL: Where does your social commitment come from?
Lana Del Rey: My parents raised me knowing that one has to apply oneself in the community and share with others. I'm flying to New York tomorrow and will help with "meals on wheel" on Thanksgiving. I need that for my inner balance because in the past ten months it has often felt like that wasn't my life. I barely talk to the people that used to make up my life anymore.
KulturSPIEGEL: Do you also distribute food to people in need on Christmas Eve?
Lana Del Rey: No, I'll be with my siblings and grandparents in Lake Placid then. I promised my mother a while ago that we would always see each other on Christmas. That is a meaningful time, in the days between Christmas and New Year's, everyone draws the balance where one stands in life and how it's supposed to go on.
KulturSPIEGEL: Do you go to chuch then, too?
Lana Del Rey: Of course, I'm Catholic. I like to sing in church because I love religious songs, christmas carols. "Silent Night" is particularly great.
KulturSPIEGEL: Did you believe in Santa Claus as a child?
Lana Del Rey: Oh yes! I was confident in his existence. My mother used to write us little notes that were supposedly written by him. Like "Thank you for the cookies. I hope you like my presents. Greetings, S."
KulturSPIEGEL: Did you feel betrayed when you found out the truth?
Lana Del Rey: I was twelve years old and shocked and asked my father to tell me the truth: "Dad, does Santa Claus exist?" He awkardly shook his head and I was bewildered - "What?" I wanted to know what the fuss and fairy tales where all about. But now I know how important a good show is.
KulturSPIEGEL: Is it exhausting to be the protagonist of the Lan Del Rey-Show?
Lana Del Rey: It depends. In France I'm responsible for enormous crowds, in the USA I'm rarely recognised. I love sitting in coffee shops and reading the newspaper. That's still not a problem in New York. All right, sometimes someone will come up to me and say: "I'm sorry, you look like Lana Del Rey." And I'll respond: "Thank you, that's very nice of you." And I'll be happy.

the "hit me, my darling, tonight / i don't know why but i like it" i always thought was a metaphor for rough sex, not domestic violence...i mean, britney's "hit me baby one more time" i'd like to imagine wasn't about her asking for a punch in the face! "push me down" references this kink (?) as well, with the hair pulling bit and other not-gentle things she clearly craves and enjoys. anyway, i think jimmy gnecco's mean-ness was more like a moody, inconstant, artiste thing (i will never forget he didn't even "like" her post of "yayo" on his FB! :aheh: )
also, as an ours fan for over 10 years, i don't think jimmy was a drug dealer...consumed, possibly maybe. the band had some troubles with labels and shit, but they were relatively successful. at least i hope he didn't sell
regarding the tattoo, lizzy could've first thought it was a snake and though then realized it was a dragon, she just preferred how it sounded (the fact that he's covered in blue ink reinforces it's about his tattoos, and not one of the other billion tattooed guys on the planet). "i like the draaagon on your taaaatoo" doesn't "roll off the tongue" so much

EDIT: i was just re-listening to "push me down" and i think it's about jimmy, too. first, he's her "rock n'roll king" (though arthur and reeve carney rocked out a bit, they don't qualify that much as kings of rock n'roll - remember J was "on another level" ). also, and this is probably far-reaching on my part, but this line - "in the dark you can do whatever you want to" - reminds me of "lolita"'s "kiss me in the d.a.r.k. dark tonight" (which some of us had previously spectulated was about JG as well - even if she isn't a lolita in the "dolores haze" sense, she felt that way - J's 12 years older than her, and she was, like, 19 at the time and was his "baby doll") - and it connects with her lyrics on "jimmy gnecco": "jimmy, jimmy, jimmy, take me to the park - buy me a hot dog, kiss me in the dark". i'm guessing theirs was more of a night-time relationship .
additional speculation (this is LANALYSIS, ain't it?): even though the highs & the lows in their relationship - i suppose - made her suffer somewhat, jimmy, who is certainly intense and creative, excited her and inspired her to be free, to let go and express herself as an artist, beyond labels like "guitar-slinging acoustic folkie babe" à la the "sirens" and WLSC era. i think this little "push me down" line is relevant: "you’re my mr. rock n’ roll king / make me wanna sing, sing for them all". remember that on "you're gonna love me", she sang "jim, imma dedicate this whole album to you / you told me to get my way and that's exactly what i'm gonna do". this might be a reason.
to finish my rant, these verses on "raise me up" tie in nicely with abandoning the image-conscious, high society pressure to be a pretty "little lady" (which she rebelled against as soon as she became a teenager, and is related perhaps to why she and her momma didn't "get along"), as well ignoring the limiting indie cred "demand" of being "original" and allowing herself, as a person and as a musician, to be as eclectic and politcally incorrect as she wanted to:

Just like you said, It's all been done before

I don't have to talk pretty for them no more.

I can talk what I want, how I wanna

I don't have to talk tastefully for you, mama

    No, no

I posted this on the MM board, but as this board seems to be more active, I wanted to re-post it here. I don't want to preach, but the unfair way that Lana has been treated really bugs me (I don't recall something like this ever happening before). As we are all here because we care about her, hopefully we can help change how she is portrayed in the media over time.

I think one of the reasons that Lana is having such a difficult time finding traction in the US, despite her huge international success, is that in most blogs, news sites, forums, she has been made into a punching bag. Any news item about her is accompanied by snarky comments dissing her for stuff that is either irrelevant or clearly not true (e.g. from earlier today: http://thegloss.com/...alia-cover-577/). The tone of these news articles (colored by the writer's bias) also seems to drive the tone of the comments that follow, generally insulting and stupid. One of the worst places has been Huffington Post whose readership seems to include a particularly large group of virulent Lana haters.

While generally it is not worth getting into fights with people who write stupid comments, I think it is important for Lana fans to strongly respond to inaccurate, biased, hateful articles/posts, and to do it forcefully and logically. I have been trying to do it for a while (as Sam or Sam Gho) and have found that it makes particularly hateful writers back off, and also changes the tone of the comments that are written subsequently. I am positive that the hater community is relatively small but they seen disproportionately large as they always find time to write nasty comments about Lana. I think if we do stand up for Lana in a organized way it will change the perception about her in the media, and may help this amazingly talented singer/songwriter achieve the recognition, respect and success she so clearly deserves.

I think Lana is treading on thin ice here with her negative comments about America/Americans. It is undoubtedly true that her biggest critics have been music critics/bloggers who are based primarily in the US (and particularly NY) but there are many, many people who are either fans, or are unaware of her (because of the lack of any promotion in the US, and I mean any!). US remains the biggest market by far, and best strategy for Lana would be to not comment about US at this point. I believe that ultimately the hater community in US is going to move on to some other obsession, and if Lana keeps improving in her live performances, I can see her coming back to SNL to great acclaim in a couple of years, not just as a musical guest, but as the host!!

This is a project I've been maintaining for a while now--Lana + Analysis...get it? The basic purpose is to relate every one of her songs (that's right, every last one of them) to her known and assumed relationships. Not a stone is left unturned. Privacy is violated. The fans rejoice. Mind you, it’s all pure speculation, but ~this is what makes us stans~

It’s pretty long but an interesting read, if I do say so myself. I hope you enjoy it in all it’s updated glory, and I will continue to update as new information is revealed and new songs come out. I will also be adding pictures, sources, etc. Stay tuned!

    - What significance do cars play? She mentions eight in total (white Corvette, white Pontiac, blue Chevy Nova/Chevrolet, Cadillac convertible, Mercedes, pickup truck, Lamborghini, Bugatti Veyron)
    - When was she/who was she with in New York City and New Jersey? Ditto LA? Most mysterious and pressing, her time in the South?
    - Did she have a fling with Bradley Soileau?
    - Did Chris C. matter enough to her for her to write songs about him?

    Assumptions Made:
    - Lana was a gogo dancer.
    - K is a drug dealer/murderer, dead or on death row.
    - Jimmy is her ex-fiancé, addicted to cocaine despite a Wikipedia page stressing how healthy he is, associated with Chevrolets.
    - Much of Sirens is about completely different relationships.
    - She fucked Bradley.
    - Mike controlled her career but their relationship wasn’t associated with anything fucked up like drugs or stripping.

Thanks for reading! I crave both your feedback and theories! This remains a forum collaboration and I don't claim to have the final say on Lanalytical manners.

For the sake of believability, I'm always hunting receipts, and currently:
    - The interview where she refers to "Yayo" as the prequel to "Video Games"
    - The interview where she describes "Video Games" as dealing with mutual sobriety in a relationship--her and her partner both staying clean.
    - The interview where she talks about meeting her boyfriend in rehab and being dazzled by his small-scale celebrity.

You can listen to the interview here:

The questions are in french so I'll translate them (and I'll go ahead and write what she says too)

There's something that I can't understand. How is it that a girl as beautiful and as young as you - you are 26, can sing such melancholic and sad things that she has not necessarily gone through? Where does that come from?
Humm, I have been through them. That's the thing. I had a very very very wild life and an innately old soul.

    Already?
Yeah. The combination of those two things just kind of formed my entire style, all at once.

Did you have suicidal tendencies when you were young?
When I was young? I don't know, somedays I still wanna.. You know.. Have everything end but that's just human.

But really Lana Del Rey, where does your sensitivity come from? You don't have the typical profile of an American your age. Where does it come from?

That's a good question. I am sensitive. I care deeply about everyone I've ever met and that is something that just comes naturally to me. I have a young brother and sister who live with me. Yeah I've been really touched by artists like Whitman and Gainsbourg and I feel a deep sense of wonder for literature like that, that's changed me. But above that I feel like a great need to take care of people who need to be taken care of and I really- I care!

Lana Del Rey what are the words you have tattooed on the side of yours hands?
    Paradise and trust no one.

But that's paradoxical, trusting no one and at the same time seeking paradise.
I know. This one's just in case people try and mess with me

    To protect you..
    *laughs*

It's a tough environment that you chose. It's also an industry. How do we survive this when we are that sensitive?
I don't know. It's too hard. Yeah, it's just too tough.

Since last year, all we talk about is you Lana Del Rey, what have you learned about yourself with this success?
    Nothing.
    Nothing nothing?!
Not from this. I never learn things, really.. If I'm talking to someone like you I just enjoy it. If I'm talking to someone who doesn't like the music, there's nothing to learn from that. I never found that there was anything to be learned through suffering going through difficult things, contrary to all the sayings.
I don't find any growth through suffering. I really just think it'd be better if things were always easy.
But I learned more from the work I did before and from the books I've read and the people I love and then being able to sing to people on stage is more.. just a luxury.

Are you interested in politics? Is the election of Obama a good thing?
Oh yeah incredibly. Obama provides an important image that we need to present to the world as Americans. He is a symbol of hope.
There's not enough one man can do as a president that will help our nation. It's up to the individuals to come up with new ideas to sustain economy and more importantly our planet cause every year they say we're running out of time. This year is more than ever, population doubling, everyone's in debt Europe as well.

Last question, in the re-realease of Born to Die, in one of your new songs, you say "my pussy tastes like pepsi cola". Is it a provocation or just a joke?
    It's a joke *laughs*

Is it a light or a normal pepsi?
Always, I'm always on a diet. I'm not gonna drink real coke I have a figure to maintain

1LIVE: We have raised the 1LIVE flag on the 1LIVE house, we always raise this flag when we have great company with Tobi Schäfer and ? Bursche ist. First, she blessed us with "Video Games", then with "Summertime Sadness" there was the soundtrack to the not-summer in Germany. Her album "Born to Die" was on number one in eleven countries and now she's here in the studio! Good morning, Lana Del Rey!
Lana: Hello hello, it's good to be here.
1LIVE: A Pop-icon, almost a diva...can you make use of the term "diva"?
    Lana: *laughs*
1LIVE: And then she laughs like a diva, "ho!"
Lana: I'm not laughing like a diva! I don't think I'd call myself a diva but i'll take the icon...uh...
1LIVE: With women, you always have to ask, because they get mad if you don't notice, did you go to the hairdresser again? Because I saw you with a fringe this week and you also have a completely different hair colour on the cover of the new record.
Lana: I know. I know, I change my hair a lot. Um yeah, my fringe that I was wearing this week, it's not a real fringe..it's just...it was my disguise, that wasn't a good disguise. And this is...yeah, I did have to go get my hair done the other day 'cause I'm singing on TV tomorrow and yeah, I got my hair done for the radio 'cause I knew you'd be here.
1LIVE: Look, it's going pretty good with us. Then we'll continue...
    Lana: Shut up
1LIVE: Lana Del Rey is here. Nice that you're here, we'll continue shortly.

1LIVE: Andreas and I don't have to clean today because even without that, we can say, "What glamour in our shack"

1LIVE: All over the world, number one. This woman, she looks fantastic, we know her from the subway, namely from the posters, she has advertised for a big clothing label. Lana Del Rey is there!
Lana: Oh, oh my gosh. Hi.
1LIVE: You've brought us something new, your album "Born to Die" exists as a re-release, eight completely new songs are on it and those that we already know. Why didn't you make a few more songs and release a completely new album because I mean, one would rather buy a new car than one that only has new rims.
Lana: Are you calling my record a used car? That's so unfair!
    1LIVE: One with great rims.
Lana: Yeah, nice rims is right. Well, I think of it as a new record. In a way, I wish I had kind of released it as a new record, just so people would, like, be excited about it. But...um...I think I released it as a...set, as a like an updated edition because I...I plan on setting a short film to it and then running that, like, the graphics from that film throughout the show on the tour. So it was kind of the idea of...
1LIVE: A big hit, also in the 1LIVE sector is the track....uh...stop, I've gone blank..."Summertime Sadness"! And now we have this "Autumn Sadness" outside, are you always sad?
    Lana: Uh...no! No, I'm happy.
1LIVE: It sounds very happy, too.
    Lana: Yeah, I'm happy!
1LIVE: I would like to cite from another song, "My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola". Andreas and I blushed...completely disgusted when we heard that. Why the hell are you sure it's Pepsi and not Coca Cola?
Lana: Pepsi...Pepsi Cola just had a nice ring to it, it just came off the tounge nicely.
1LIVE: So, one doesn't have to try.
    Lana: You can try it!
1LIVE: This conversation is taking an unexpected turn, isn't it? Lana Del Rey, we know her from the radio. We don't really know you from the stage, you haven't been to Germany, starting on April 17, it starts, next xear, you're the in Düsseldorf for the first time then. Give us a little clue, of course all of us aree going to buy tickets but how should we act with your music? Drinking a beer, jumping around and yelling isn't really appropiate.
Lana: Uh. That's a really good question. Um, I think the kids I've talked to here, they just like the tracks of the album so it's really just a chance to kind of play it live.
1LIVE: Lana Del Rey is our guest today, one of the newcomers of the year 2012, we want to talk about your year in a second, describe it in one word.
    Lana: Uh...different.
1LIVE: That's whack, I thought Americans often come with "Amazing!", but "different", we have to think about that, we'll continue shortly with 1LIVE and Lana Del Rey!
    Lana: Yeah...
1LIVE: Before that, we have the most recent single, here is Lana Del Rey with "Rides" [sic].

1LIVE: 1LIVE plays Lana Del Rey with "Ride" and 1LIVE doesn't only play Lana Del Rey...

1LIVE: She brought us through the bad summer in Germany very well, "Summertime Sadness" is her big hit, Lana Del Rey is our very very best guest, one has to add.
Lana: I'll take it! I'll take it, thank you!
1LIVE: 3:0 for me, Tobi, 3:0 for me!
1LIVE: You have a sensational year behind you, your album "Born to Die" reached number one in eleven countries, but in your home country, the USA, it only reached number two, does that annoy you or aren't you a perfectionist?
Lana: Not a perfectionist. Um, and I'm not really interested in the United States at all, I'm really pleased, I'm so interested in Europe. I just really...that's just an honour to me. 'Cause America, they don't play, like, the radio wouldn't play music that isn't Top 40, so I just don't need to have anything to do, like I have nothing to do with music over there.
1LIVE: You're also in London a lot. Are you turning your back on America? That just sounded a bit like that...somehow that you're not satisfied with the life there.
Lana: Um...no, no. I didn't say that. Uh, no, I just, you know what? I love the idea of what America used to be, I love the ? of California, and I love the energy of New York City, but do I really wanna sing there? Um...I don't know. Uh, there's a saying that says, "Go where it's warm and go where you're loved." And so, I feel, like I, I feel really good in Paris, I feel really good...um, when I'm singing for people from Russia, I feel like they get it, so...
1LIVE: In Germany, we don't only know you through your music, we also know you from posters, you're advertising for a clothing chain and there are a lot of people that complain and say that you look very bored in the photos. Didn't you like the clothes?
Lana: They complain about me looking bored?
1LIVE: There's a contest on the internet in which users try to look like you.
Lana: And they look really bored?
1LIVE: I would say "cool"! I think, that's always a question of definition.
Lana: Yeah, I think you meant cool and not bored.
1LIVE: Lana Del Rey is our very best guest on this Saturday and really our very best guest, we've never had such a charming lady here, one has to say. And she brought presents, the new album "Born to Die - The Paradise Edititon" was released yesterday.
Lana: It's really good to be here, thank you.
1LIVE: Do you feel at ease?
Lana: Yeah, actually I'm having fun.
1LIVE: Lana Del Rey, thank you very much for being here
    Lana: Thank you, guys!

I guess Lana didn't know if she wanted to call it an album or an EP so she was like "record or w/e i dont really care what people call it" not "I dont care about the record."
