Tell me, what exactly works in terms of US healthcare these days? I’m genuinely curious what you think.
“The amount working-age Americans spent on health insurance through the payroll deductions has jumped nearly three times faster than wages over the past two dozen years.“
Is it the millions uninsured? That Americans spend more than double other first world countries for healthcare (without the benefit of having better services/access)? Rampant denials of claims? The fact that it was considered a “policy win” for pre-existing conditions to finally be covered by the insurance industry in *2014*? Wages not keeping up with cost of care? Medical bills accounting for HALF of all personal debt or the fact that medical bills are the leading cause of individual bankruptcy? Which part of this works?
The biggest issue we have ^^ which is touched on by LL ^^ is that the government (Reps / Dems alike) is bankrolled by healthcare and pharmaceutical companies in order to prevent single payer healthcare from being enacted in the first place. Like… healthcare lobbyists. For-profit healthcare companies. These monsters who earn money off of people’s suffering.
It’s not happening because the rich don’t want it to happen. Not anything near the assumption that it *cant* happen. It will absolutely work, that’s why it’s not happening lol

Free public healthcare exists in European countries , with healthcare workers being compensated enough and sufficiently for their demanding labor ( there are other instances that are generally the exceptions, like in my country for example , where there are insufficiencies in the public health sector concerning the compensation of healthcare workers due to the ongoing economic crisis BUT health care remains free and really effective ).
Also Sally Pipes is part of a think tank as I read that one of its main objectives is to push liberal ideology so i can see why she does not agree with Medicare . That does not mean though that a different healthcare system cannot work in the US or that there aren't any other alternatives. In other countries other healthcare systems are living examples of the different directions a country can take.

People still defending America’s healthcare system in 2024 (almost 2025)

america is literally the only developed country without universal healthcare. and guess what? in countries where healthcare the workers are still paid so its not even like its forced labor. I’m pretty sure the UN considers access to safe water a human right and requires specialized labor to build and maintain purification systems. You can hide behind being “pro workers rights” all you want but you clearly just lack empathy for humanity

in developed societies, with the knowledge we have, with the technology we have, people do have the right to assistance when their lives are in danger. or at the very least, they should. if all that progress and knowledge can’t even go towards saving lives easily, i really have no idea what we did it for. millions of qualified workers work every day and have been doing so for centuries, it’s not like someone getting access to healthcare requires a huge sacrifice on society’s part.
i can’t comprehend that someone would think that saving lives doesn’t need to be the number one priority. especially after people shared their stories in this thread. the fortune of billionaires doubled since covid started and you think people shouldn’t have the right to healthcare? this is nothing short of absurd to me.

I appreciate your comments. But I do feel like transphobia has become so normalized today to the point that people “expect” republicans to be hateful. Imagine if he shared Pro-Nazi posts or posts insinuating Women of Color should be beaten to death for using the female bathroom. If he’s that open online with his hate I can only imagine what he says around Lana. I mean there is that video of his daughter calling someone the N word. I wonder who she learned that from.
