I'm gonna sound pretty stupid and ignorant, but what does that title mean? 
English is not my first language and I'm having such a hard time trying to understand, especially because it doesn't seem to make sense grammatically (at least to my knowledge)

I knew this was gonna happen the minute everyone started deluding themselves into thinking this album was going to get a 10  from pitchfork and an 88+ on metacritic 

literally, i got so confused for a second and thought we had a handful of 40-60s reviews to deal with

BTD had the same pre-release as this album (3 month span). 3 singles were out before the album release in January 2012. Video Games the first single (Out in October) was a WW hit phenomenon around world. Blue Jeans as a B-Side was a moderate hit around the world as well. Born To Die single launched in December went top 10 all over the globe. These were pre release singles. What do you mean the album isn’t out?
 
Exactly, post NFR. Even Love charted better.
 
For something to be game changing or iconic, it needs both or one of the two (acclaim or success). BTD was hugely successful that it get retroactive acclaim through the years. NFR wasn’t a commercial success. The singles performed much worse compared to Lust For Life and the opening sales were lower too but the acclaim transformed it into a sleeper hit. It’s her second most streamed album at this point.

But that isn’t going to happen again, it’s just not realistic to expect her to want a hit era when she does not do basic promo. She hasn’t done tv interviews since 2012.
Nor is she hugely engaged in tik tok 

A&W is performing better than anything she’s released post NFR, aside from #that collab

BTD was commercially mega successful. This album so far is not.

They’re ok. Not AOTY career defining album more like another COCC and BB (that in itself is troubling if we’re being honest).

Album highlight, “Margaret” is a pure paean to the latter.

I think we all agree that the Interludes were completely unnecessary. So, you're not alone in this. 

Damn...wasn't expecting this to happen with this album and I tried really hard for days but it looks like I'll need to sacrifice some songs to enjoy the album. 
Trying to find anything interesting for me in Sweet, Interludes, Paris, Margaret but so far without any results, they are actually the opposite of "growers" for me. Wish I could like this album as much as you all. Highs are very high though.

Are we really getting mad over positive reviews?? This same luxury for experimentation would not have been afforded to her 4 years ago-some of you should be grateful that people are interested in the work. 

No, I spilled. She scarified her commercial sound to appeal to critics and pretends she doesn’t care, but she does and gets mad when the reviews are negative. It’s a lost lost situation where she lost her commercial appeal only to get middling reviews anyways. They sent the album super early expecting great reviews I’m sure . The fact that she’s also perched on Instagram posting just as reviews dropped. Oh, Lana don’t make that face.
 
It would be so much better for her to make bops for fans to enjoy then to cosplay poet and be artsy fartsy…like for what? You’re still getting zero Grammys.

It's nice when she gets recognition and acclaim but Ultraviolence got a 74 on metacritic and BTD a 62 (while BB got an 80...) so it really doesn't mean anything lol idk why we're worrying abt all that. And also tbh the reviews have been pretty good so far?

Most albums get an 80 these day lol. Poptimism and the fact that her past two albums scored in the same range. COCC also getting multiple perfect scores. And we know the real quality of those albums.
 
NFR 87 on metacritic is really more like a 97 in todays music journalism.
 
 

i had a dream that lana released an ep to go with this album, it consisted of 5 unreleased songs (i think serial killer and say yes to heaven were on there) it seemed so realistic that when i logged onto LB today, i expected to see discussions about it on this thread, thank god it was just a dream
